I'm not going to explain in this build the many intricacies of playing Alistar. Instead, I want to present a little used strategy that is very effective. This is an unorthodox build, but I have had great success with it. Alistar is naturally bulky and great AP rations make his abilities hit squishy champions incredibly hard. With a Meki Pendent and Mana Regen runes, you can spam headbutt all day, denying the opposing team's carry both XP and gold. Whenever you get the chance, headbutt the opposing team's champion away from creeps. By hitting W and Q in quick succession, you can deal massive amounts of damage. Any damage incurred during these attacks can be quickly recovered with your E.

Once at level 6, Alistar can tower dive easily using his ultimate. As the game wears on, I go for items that give off auras, as team fights are truly where Alistar shines. Through these items, Alistar becomes quite tanky (particularly with his ultimate) and still able to destroy squishy characters.

Please give this build a try. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
