Introduction

Welcome ladies and gentlemen!

My name is Whiskyz, one of the funders of TeamRisingDragon (TRDra) and I proudly present our first guide:
Solo-Top Irelia, The Will of the Blades!

This guide is aimed for people stuck on low ELO and for people that play alot blind-pick. We are working on higher ELO version!
WARNING: this guide is NOT tested on high ELO yet! Feel free to test it yourself and provide us your information and we'll see if we can improve our guide.

Enjoy!

What type do I choose?

As you can see we've prepared two diffrent Irelia builds for you! One being the Offensive Irelia and the other being Defensive Irelia.

Offensive Irelia
No matter how good you are Irelia really starts when she hits level 4/5 some hard times 6 so until then wait and farm. If you've finally reached level 6 you can really start to harass your enemy. Just a simple combo and walk away, wait for CD's and try it again.

Defensive Irelia
But if your enemy can win the trade, make you lose cs or both, you should really go for the Defensive Irelia. When you're playing Defensive Irelia the key is to let them push. Benefits of them being pushed: your jungler can come and help you, if an enemy jumps on you you can stun him in turret range and your sustain will be a lot higher. Higher sustain means you won't have to leave the lane so much which means you can try to outfarm your enemy and pay him back lategame.

Summoner Spells

For summoner spells I always take Flash. Simple reason: can be used to jump in or out.
The second spell can vary between:
  • Ignite - Extra damage and reducing their health regen + lifesteal/spellvamp. If their AD Carry has Heal try ignite him this will reduce the health from Heal.

  • Exhaust - Giving you the oppurtunity to flee from a 1v1 or put it in your favour. Remember if you Exhaust after they used Ghost they will be slowed.

  • Teleport - Since you're solo-top sometimes you've to get back quick or help your team do dragon/gank and teleport to a nearby ward to change the fight.

  • Ghost - Can be used instead of Teleport, quickly get back in your lane or use it to chase your enemy.

Runes

Offensive Irelia

Runes

Precision
Fleet Footwork
Phase Rush
For Offensive Irelia I take some offensive runes but not all because Irelia really is a bruiser and without that tankiness from your runes early game you'll be destroyed.

Defensive Irelia

Runes

Precision
Fleet Footwork
Phase Rush
However if you notice your enemy will be able to harass you a lot or you just haven't learned Irelia yet choose for Defensive Irelia. With these runes you'll have a lot more protection which makes it harder for the enemy to win a trade.

Skill Sequence

Offensive Irelia

For Offensive Irelia this really depends on how your lane is doing. If you notice you can stun alot go for your E to extend the stun. Notice he doesn't have a lot of regen which makes it hard do stun, go for your Q for that extra damage.

Defensive Irelia

When playing Defensive Irelia it doesn't really depend on how your lane is doing since your only to farm, farm and more farm. But when you have to choose between Q and E go whatever you think helps you beter.

When do I use what combo?

Irelia doesn't have much combos but since her E varies from a stun to a slow its better to know when you do what. The combos stay the same whether she is level 6 or not. The following combos are:
  • 100% HP - 100% HP E-Q-W-R, you can also safe your Q to get back to an enemy minion if needed.
  • 100% HP - 75% HP Q-E-(R)-w, since he's already lower than you are you can't stun him so you jump on him slow him and do as many damage as you can. Only use your ult when you know you will have the kill. If you don't safe it to farm an incoming wave.
  • 75% HP - 100% HP E-R-W-Q, if you notice you cant do that much damage and he can, try to safe Q to flee.
  • 75% HP - 100% HP Q-R-W-E, when you initiate with lower health your enemy will probably attack back, but since you have your R and W for some regen you can safe E till the last moment to do some extra damage while hes stunned. Sometimes your Q will be off cooldown by then for more damage or to jump away.

Items

Offensive Irelia

Mercury's Treads, probably 9/10 times I take these boots. Only take Ninja Tabi if you're really haveing a hard lane against an AD champ or if their whole team is AD.

Heart of Gold, this will + your philosopher stone will give you great sustain and harass ability. And the benifit of getting them is 1G/1S. Also you'll build it into a randuin's omen.

Trinity Force, I take this for its awesome stats. First the sheen gives you some nice extra damage and a little mana which helps you in lane. The phage gives you some nice amount of HP and gives you the chance to slow your enemy. Zeal is good for its movement speed to keep up with your enemy and you can do some extra true damage while your W is active. Don't really see a reason to skip this item.

A lot of armor, a lot of health, reducing movement and attack speed chance, instant attack speed reduction. What else do you want? With your Force of Nature you can tank so much damage and at the same time deal so much damage that they can't do anything to you.

Awesome passive and awesome defence stats. If you really don't want to build for it (which I so no reason for) consider a Frozen Malet. For that extra HP and ofcourse AD thanks to your Atma's.

To finish up you get some lifesteal for more sustain in a teamfight and a good amount of damage. Feel free to take another item if you want, but for me this works the best.

Together with your trinity force and randuin's omen you'll get some insane hp regen + lifesteal from your bloodthirster. Can they even kill you? If you really feel the need for damage instead of hp regen and magic resist try an Atma's Impaler

Defensive Irelia

Mercury's Treads, probably 9/10 times I take these boots. Only take Ninja Tabi if you're really haveing a hard lane against an AD champ or if their whole team is AD.

Lifesteal for extra sustain, armor to win trades and a free ward! What else do you want? You could skip this item but I wouldn't do it.

It gives you so much HP and HP Regen, it stacks up while you farm and with the Atma's you get later this truely is one of the best items for Defensive Irelia. I suggest not to skip it.

It gives your armor, it gives your crit chance and converts 1,5% of your HP to AD, perfect with that Warmog. DON'T SKIP THIS ITEM!
