Thank you for looking at this build. Im not going to say this is better than all the other Renekton builds but it does work great for me. Ill talk about why I have picked runes and item over others. I hope this may help you with Renekton.
Pros / Cons
He has great sustain with Cull the Meek
He has a Stun and Stuns are great
He also has a great escape mechanism and if used through enemy minions, it can be used twice so not much reason to have Flash
Needs 50 fury to really do that "burst" to drop champs.
What I use
I use Exhaust to help my jungler with his gank and to keep them in range while my skills are coming off of CD.
I use Teleport to make sure that when i need to "B" i can get back to lane and stay at Par with my opponent. Its also great to use to help with ganks in mid or even to save other lanes. You can run to mid gank and then "B" then Teleport back up top.
Ones that can be used
With Renekton being a melee champ Ghost can be helpful to stay in range to keep up damage.
Can be helpful to finish off champs or to stop champs that have high Health regen or can heal themselves. EX: Dr. Mundo, Volibear, Fiddlesticks, Tryndamere, etc.
Flash is a great Spell and with Renekton Slice and Dice he can be almost impossible to catch. but with Slice and Dice I don't think it is needed.
I use these Masteries to have more damage out put because my items are tanky so i feel the needed to have more damage with my Masteries.
you can also go this route to be more tanky. Renekton can tank for your team, he can jump in with Slice and Dice and try to stun the carry with Ruthless Predator. so both of these sets will work i just rather have the Damage over tank.
I use these runes.
Greater Mark of Lethality
Greater Seal of Armor
Greater Glyph of Magic Resist
Greater Quintessence of Lethality
all in all thats....
+25 Armor pen.
+13 Magic Resist.
some people like Greater Quintessence of Attack Damage. I dont, i think the +10 armor pen is better. ill talk more about that in a little bit. I have also seen Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed used......i really dont like this one, if you cant catch people with Renekton then dont play him. Slice and Dice is more than enough and after you have Youmuu's Ghostblade and Force of Nature you will have 420-480 movement speed.
OK now this is where I'm going to talk about items and why I pick the ones I do and not other ones. I'm sorry if you get lost or cant stand reading this anymore but here we go....=)
More times then not if you 1v1 top you will both be AD fighters. if that is the case then start off with a Doran's Shield the Health regen will help stay in lane and the armor will make you take less damage and the 100hp is nice. it just makes it harder to beat Renekton as an AD champ. Now sometimes there will be an AP fighter top ( Rumble or Fizz maybe) in this case start with a Doran's Blade. the Lifesteal will help you stay in lane and the 10 AD will help do more damage and heal more with your Cull the Meek and once again 100hp is nice.
Neat is to get some boots just get the Boots of Speed for now just so you move faster to keep from getting ganked and you help with your Harass. after that Get your Heart of Gold for the Health and GP5. then finish your boots into Ionian Boots of Lucidity or more speed and CDR (cooldown Reduction). the CDR will help a lot, more damage and healing, always great. Some player will get Mercury Treads, i feel the CDR is more import more times then not most of the enemies CC will be used on your carry not you.
Then Rush for an Avarice Blade then sooner the better. the longer you have a GP5 item the better. once you have them you will get 2 gold per sec. that is 120 gold in a min, 1200 in 10 mins. The next item to get will be The Brutalizer to increase you AD, CDR and more Armor Pen. You will also use it to make Youmuu's Ghostblade.
The next item that should be made is Phage, it gives you more HP and some AD, the passive to slow is nice as well. at this point you should have 6 items, work to upgrade the Phage to a Frozen Mallet. then go head and make the Youmuu's Ghostblade to free up a spot for a new item and with these two items together the target shouldnt get away. the incresed movement speed and attack speed when you use the item with the slow on every auto attack from the mallet. Now just for new people I put the Ghostblade in my first item spot, to use it just hit the "1" key. I like it that way cause it is right above the "Q" so its easy to hit.
Now we are going to work for some more Damage so get a B.F sword and work it into The Black Cleaver. this item is nice because of the passive to lower their armor with each hit up to 3 stack. if you have 50 fury and stun someone they will get all three stacks then you will hit much harder.
Now if you can once you have 500 gold sell your Doran's Shield and get a Negatron Cloak. then work that into a Force of Nature.
now for the last item, i make my Heart of Gold into a Randuin's Omen. this item is just great. makes it bad for a AD carry to target you and keeps Champs from getting away and lower their attack speed. now i now of some people rather how Sunfire Cape instead. but i feel that Sunfire Cape just doesnt add up to Randuin's Omen. The passive of Sunfire Cape just seem worthless.
If Two Renekton fight one with Sunfire Cape and one with Randuin's Omen the one with Randuin's Omen will get more fury because of the increased attack speed and with 141 MR that is 59% reduced magic damage so the Sunfire Cape will do 14 damage a sec so that is 70 damage over 5sec. with this build Renekton has 85 HP5 so it wont get through that so its not doing much. im not saying that Sunfire Cape is worthless just not compared to Randuin's Omen.
Well i guess i will go head and wrap things up, now with the runes thing. I pick Armor pen runes over physical damage, 10 armor pen VS 7 AD. the way i play Renekton he has 31/10% armor pen.
so if you play a Rammus if he has Armor seal and 3 point in Hardiness he will have 44 armor so when you attack him (44-10%= 40-31= 9) his armor is 9. he will stop 9% of you damage. Now will do one more. if you are fighting a Heimerdinger with the same Runes and Masteries as Rammus that means he has 29 armor. (29-10%= 26-31= -5) so he has -5 armor that means you hit him for 5% more damage. but this is how i play Renekton.
