The philosophy behind this build is to utilize the support Sona provides with her auras.

Summoner Spells:Clarity should be an obvious choice that allows you to stay in your lane constantly early game, late game clarity is more for you to provide mana to your team's mana users. Ignite is a bit unorthodox to take on a support character however, I like to use it to play aggressively with my partner and get some early kills. In addition it becomes useful when there is a team throwing out a lot of heals, whether it be through a Soraka or Warwick.

Other viable summoner spells are clairvoyance to provide visibility for your team or ghost/flash if you feel you need a bit more escape options, though personally map awareness and the speed Sona has with boots of mobility and song of celerity is plenty.

Mastery Trees: The mastery tree is pretty simple, Get into utility to reduce your CDs then go into offensive to get a little more AP and CD reduction to keep your auras up constantly.

Items: The item build gets you enough mana to stay in lane and then gets your Mejai's snowballing quickly. The only item you should switch out is Frozen Heart for another CD reducing item if the other team isn't really going to be hitting you with too much physical damage and you could pass on the armor. If that is the case you can take Deathfire Grasp or Shurelya's Reverie.

Lane Partners:I generally try to lane with a tank-y champion so that we can do some good damage early on with me keeping them in lane for extended periods and them disabling and soaking up damage. However, Sona excels with any partner.

Early: First of all start out with a point in Hymn of Valor and charge up your power chord at the spawn. This will provide you with some decent damage burst at the very start of the game. Make sure to grab some potions with your meki pendant to keep you up until you get your heal. I generally take ignite so that my partner and I can score a few easy kills easy game to give us the advantage for the long run. You should have your Tear of the Goddess and Mejai's pretty quick to give you a pretty healthy mana pool and AP.

Mid: By mid game you should have your boots of mobility, and those in combination with Song of Celerity should make it possible for you to participate in every fight around the map.

Late: By the end of the game you should have your Innervating Locket and Frozen Heart which will allow you to ultilize Sona's secondary passive which keeps your auras up for 3 seconds after you have cast another. This will allow you to keep all three of your auras up during all team battles while also constantly healing your team and damaging the enemies. Use your ult as needed to stun enemies to score the kill or interrupt abilities like Miss Fortunes or Fiddle's Ults.

Tips: I see a lot of Sona's stealing kills from their team, don't chances are they need the gold more than you. Sona doesn't have a massive damage output, but sometimes there are scenarios where you can put yourself in position to catch enemies trying to escape and finish them off. In team fights you have 2 things you need to do, keep cycling your auras constantly and STAY BEHIND YOUR TEAM. If things get bad you can escape (and help your teammates do the same).
