Welcome to my guide for one of the most peaceful champions I have ever played. Sona is an unbelievably unique champion who I just cannot stop playing. In this guide I will go over her moves in depth, and my tips on how to use them effectively, go over my rune and mastery choices, as well as explain my item build. If you have any questions please feel free to comment and ask. As always, I ask those who vote to leave a comment as to why...anything at all.

DISCLAIMER!:

Do not take this build as the absolutely best way to ever play Sona EVERRRRRRRRRRRR! Use this build to guide your own playstyle. If it doesn't work for you, tell me why and use what is more comfortable for you. I am always willing to improve, I just need constructive feedback to do so ^.^

Let us proceed.

Masteries and Runes

I went for a standard 9/0/21 spec for Sona. I personally feel this is the best way to spec her. Picking up the spell pen and AP in the Offense tree with Blink of an Eye, Mana Regen, and Utility Master in the Utility tree.

As for runes. This as always is difficult. However the way I have Sona set up, I go for Seals and Glyphs flat CDR. I use AP per level Quintessences, and Magic Pen Marks. The CDR on Sona is RIDICULOUS. Being able to constantly switch between "stances" if you will, is crucial especially Mid-Late game.

Skills

Sona is by far the most unique champion in the game, in my opinion. Her skills are fun and if you have a free moment, you can hear the different songs that are played after each song is activated, its quite nice ^.^

(Passive) Power Chord: After casting 3 spells, Sona's next attack deals bonus magic damage (24+12 per level). Additionally, Sona's Auras persist for 3 seconds after deactivating and set off a 2 second global cooldown.

A great addition to your damage output in general. After about level 6 you will see this up a lot, due to the extreme stance-twisting you will be doing.

(Stance) Hymn of Valor: Passive Aura: Sona plays the Hymn of Valor, granting nearby allied champions bonus attack damage and ability power.

Active: Sona sends out bolts of sound, dealing magic damage to the nearest two enemy champions or monsters.

Cooldown: 7 seconds
Cost: 55 / 60 / 65 / 70 / 75 Mana

Attack Damage & Ability Power: 8 / 11 / 14 / 17 / 20

Magic Damage: 70 / 120 / 170 / 220 / 270 (+0.6 per ability power)

This is your main damaging move. When you activate this, it will send out two bolts and do a good amount of damage. Once activated a blue aura will be around you, this blue aura gives off the AD and AP to surrounding Allies. Be aware of what aura you have active because it does make a difference in team fights.

(Stance) Aria of Perseverance: Passive Aura: Sona plays the Aria of Perseverance, granting nearby allied champions bonus armor and magic resistance.

Active: Sona sends out healing melodies, healing herself and a nearby wounded ally.

Cooldown: 7 seconds
Cost: 55 / 60 / 65 / 70 / 75 Mana

Armor & Magic Resist: 8 / 11 / 14 / 17 / 20

Heal: 40 / 65 / 90 / 115 / 140 (+0.5 per ability power)

This is your main healing move. This combined with Song of Celerity will be a HUGE asset to your team in team fights. This is where a lot of the song-twisting comes into play. Use it to heal yourself and teammates, and also be wary of the aura it gives off. The Armor and Magic Resist is always helpful.

(Stance) Song of Celerity: Passive Aura: Sona plays the Song of Celerity, granting nearby allied champions bonus movement speed.

Active: Sona energizes nearby allies with an additional burst of speed.

Cooldown: 7 seconds
Cost: 55 / 60 / 65 / 70 / 75 Mana

Movement Speed: 8 / 11 / 13 / 17 / 20

This is great for getting to and from turrets and other crucial locations quickly, as well as a great gank/escape mechanism. I max this out last however simply because the other 2 stances are much more crucial to this character. This is very debatable however. It is up to you on how you want to build up Sona in your own game, I just usually choose to max this out last.

(Active) Crescendo: Sona plays her ultimate chord, forcing enemy champions to dance, taking magic damage over time.

Cooldown: 160 / 140 / 120 seconds

Cost: 100 / 150 / 200 Mana

Magic Damage: 150 / 250 / 350 (+0.7 per ability power)

This is Sona's ultimate. This move is just awesome. It is a skill shot but its a pretty easy skill shot to land. You have to be smart about when to use it however. This can really turn the tides of a team fight. Use it wisely, and enjoy watching people dance when you do it, its good fun.

Item Build

At the start of the game, it is mainly up to you to decide whether you want a bit more health or to just go for the meki pendant. If you want more health, go ahead and start off with a doran's ring. Otherwise I recommend starting off with a Meki Pendantand 2 Mana Potions.

Once you have enough gold, go back and turn your pendant, or go buy (if you chose Doran's at the start) Tear of the Goddess.
If you have enough gold, also pick up a Blasting Wand. If not you can grab it on your next trip back to base.

From here we are trying to build Archangel's to get a good mana and AP lead.
Grab Boots of Speed when you get 350g so you aren't slow the WHOLE time. With Song of Celerity, this should be enough speed for now.
Next finish off Archangels.

The next item that I focus on getting is Zhonya's. The AP you get from this item is substantial especially for increasing the healing done by Aria of Perseverance and the Damage output of Hymn of Valor.
Pick up a Needlessly Large Rod whenever you have the gold.
If you have the gold in between grab Boots of Swiftness to finish off your boots of speed.

Build Zhonya's when you have enough gold later on in the game.

Most games are probably over by this point. If the game continues or you are a killing/assisting machine and have a ton of gold, go ahead and start working on some CDR items.
Build the new item, Shurelya's Reverie. This will give you much needed health, movement speed and CDR.

After this if the game is STILL going on. Pick up:

and finish it off with:

Tips

Playing Sona is a lot harder than it seems. She is extremely squishy and can be taken out QUICKLY. This champion is NOT for people who like to be aggressive. You can and do very well as her, but I personally don't like to take the risk unless I know I can deliver a kill for the team.

One tip I have is to stay with a group or with a few people at all times. Solo Sona USUALLY is a dead Sona if ganked. She can 1v1 some champs but her heal really isn't that powerful, don't get cocky.

Helping champions is your job as a support. However being labeled as a support doesn't mean you are locked down to only doing that. Sona is more than capable of being a devastating asset to a team. Use her ultimate when its right. If you are chasing a group of enemies and they are in front of you, use it to stun them.

Or likewise, if your team is being chased, its a great way to stop an entire team in their tracks so you can Aria/Song of Celerity back and forth to get your team to safety.

It takes a lot of practice to do well with her. Play her a lot, try this build, and try other people's builds. See what you enjoy and what works best for you.

Again, please comment if you feel the need. If you down-rate it, please leave a comment why, its helpful.

Thanks again
