Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
for runes i like going my own route of it, some people disagree with it, but i enjoy it.
I normally do the whole magic pen marks, cooldown reduction seals, ap per level glyphs, for quins i have magic pen.
for the first AP sona i like doing a standard 9/0/21 caster masteries page grabbing improved clarity and teleport and grapping more cooldowns and magic pen
For the tank sona i like grabbing the 9/21/0 masteries grabbing improved fortify for becoming what i like to call "Guardian"
Pros / Cons
AP Sona pros:
HIGH damage output
easy team fights
AP sona cons:
you take a lot of damage causing you to have to leave or back out a little
Tank sona pros:
Survivability in team fights
staying the lane longer
people target sona so if she can take a hit, she'll be fine
Tank Sona Cons:
not a big damage, but it suffices
not a lot of heal, but it heals at about 200 hp at level 5. ( might be fixed a little bit with the new Zhonya's Hourglass )
Team Work/Unique Skills
What is nice to do if you're chasing is that grab at least 1 level in your movement speed, i grab it at level 5 so i can use my ult a bit better at level 6. When in teamfights try to place your ult to where you can hit their whole team and make them all dance, allowing your team to come in and wreck their lives. While you're buffing their stats with your blue aura (which should be up at that time)
If in a tight battle don't be afraid to spam W and E, it's okay, thats why even with tank sona to get the Tear of the Goddess for the mana, or even grabbing The Chalice of Harmony.
While in the laning phase i enjoy focusing one person, using your ult is okay, its only about a minute cooldown with the runes and the masteries. Grabbing the blue would be a good thing to do too.
If you have a jungler on your team, Sona is a good person to solo so she can level up quick, because if she can level up she can heal more and do more damage, she's more useful in teamfights, I've done Sona 2v1 a lot and came out on top about 80% of the time, sometimes i get a bad lane and i can't hold it up, Sona is good at protecting her tower also.
Back to the laning phase: if you're going in a 2v2 lane thats fine, its good to coordinate with your teammate for your ult, lets say you have somebody like Vlad just farming minions, have your teammate go in front of him, use your E to get behind him and when he turns towards you, ult him, 9 times out of 10, hes dead. Pinsiring somebody with your ult is deadly, even in teamfights
Items/Skill Sequence Side Note
Note: the skills are NOT right (i think) heres what i like
Getting the Hymn of valor first!
then the aria next
at level 5 get 1 point into movespeed
get your ult as soon as you can.
Items can be bought in any order, none of them are needed in any particular order, but i start with sorc shoes then go into mejais then into archangels. Will of the Ancients is for that little bit of support in you. the Zhonya's items give you 355 ap with just those and nothing else (amazing right?) yes very...
once again items can be bought in any order but i go with the boots first (ninja tabi are my fave but i like getting the CD reduction boots or the magic resist boots.) next i get the GA or the Thornmail, whatever is needed first, i do a mord build actually, getting force of nature and thornmail to complete your build, then getting whatever you want lol.
Now you have it, a good build(s) for sona, so good luck and play that funky music white boy! (sorry bad pun, sorry if that sounds racist but its a song so have fun with it)
