Introduction

Soraka, the Starchild of Ionia, was the first of her kind. While there are many who tap into the rich magical energies of Valoran, she was the first to tap into the magic of the cosmos. Reaching beyond the terrestrial firmament, Soraka was capable of invoking the power of the stars, evolving beyond her kin. That is, until she let her most primal of emotions rule her. Warwick, a mercenary chemist in the service of Noxus, had caused untold suffering and death amongst Soraka's people. Unstoppable anger and hatred welled within her and she cursed the man to become a beast. Soraka lost much of her power for this misstep, sliding several steps down the evolutionary ladder in an instant. Though she is still a champion of the Ionian people, Soraka has joined the League of Legends in hopes of reversing her curse and redeeming herself in the eyes of the stars.

"Though having fallen from grace, Soraka is nonetheless determined to once again be one with the stars."

About the author.

Hi!

I'm MCToT and this is my first guide for League of Legends (don't hate too much >.<)

A few quick notes before we get that far.

1. I am not the Jesus of LoL, so, I won't try to be overconfident with anything in my guide, if you see some critical flaw, tell me, I can only make a better guide right!?
2. I don't play a great deal of ranked games; just not my thing, I don't like the stressure (stress+pressure=stressure) of the whole thing, way too tryhard for my blood.
3. I play for fun, and the lady Soraka pretty much has been defining that for me of late!

Style and grace

Soraka is a champion that must be played delicately. Style, grace, and precision of actions are all extremely involved in making her viable and therefore enjoyable to play. Can you find success immediately with this build? I certainly did, and went on a five game winning rampage.

Runes

Ok, my rune selection may seem weird upon first glance.

Why do you need magic pen. for Soraka?

Her silence ability, which I'll get to in a second, also deals a large amount of damage and therefore needs some pen. in my humble opinion, another option would be to take flat AP for it, it works well there too, but my very aggressive style suggests that I take the pen.

Why do you need Mana regen per 5 on Soraka, can't she just bring her own mana back?

Yes, you can. However, as I stated, I am primarily using that ability to silence foes or last shot creeps if my hook doesn't quite look like it will make it.

What's with the flat cooldown glyphs?

Simply put, I can use my abilities more frequently, and, if you're in a game where merc's treads are unneeded you can hit the CDR cap when you pick up your DFG if you have CDR booties on your hooves.

XP quints? nub...

For me, this is just what works best. As Lady Soraka, I just feel like I have 2 goals. First, stack up a ton of AP and CDR. Second, level up as fast as possible, so my heals become so beefy it's difficult to take anyone on my team down. You won't need MS quints, because her ult is global and you really don't have much business chasing down for a kill. HP quints are a nice alternative, but I just like being able to level faster as my main priority.

Masteries

The masteries set I choose to fit my aggressive playstyle. You can opt to drop the 1 point in Archaic Knowledge and move it over to the defensive tree for a nice buffed up Heal spell. But as stated, I am aggressive with her and want to capitalize on the 0 cost silence/damage spell she has. The rest of the masteries set is to capitalize on my desire to stack AP/CDR and XP, so the typical caster build fits best.

Items

I start with the Doran's Ring and a health pot to start the game, because you never know what kind of mess your buddy may get you into early on. Use the hp pot when/if needed and just wait till you get 765g to port back and buy your first pick. After that, you should be able to chill and wait till you can port back for boots and another. Now your gold is gonna be streaming in pretty quick (which is the sole purpose for the picks, because your farming abilities are severely lacking and hard to time last shots especially with a teammate). I like to pretty much fill my inventory with the things, because they contribute amazingly with their AP, and everyone loves items that pay for themselves by you doing nothing, right?

Somewhere along the line, I try to pick up Spirit Visage, because it gives CDR(if you don't have the boots for it)and it increases how much you heal yourself, BAZING!

Next up, turn one of those picks into a Deathfire Grasp, and spam it's use ability. Now you can help deal quite a bit of damage between it and your silence, and you may change the tide of the fight.

After that, I get a Deathcap or two and perhaps an Hourglass if the game is going on for 42 days.

Skill Sequence

Take Infuse at first level, always! I cannot stress that enough!!! With your summoner Heal spell you have as much heals as you should need to hang out until level 2. You should always warn your lanemate that you won't have your heal spell until 2 and that they shouldn't be doing anything overly risky! Your silence could very well be what saves his life if he facechecks a bush and gets in trouble, or it can help your team score first blood. Either way, I have found that it is the superior choice for a start spell, and as a first spell to max as well for the same reasons.

Get Astral Blessing at level 2. This is where you start getting a bit more aggressive. You now have the ability to harass, even if you do take a few hits, you can heal yourself, which they probably cannot do.

Capitalize on your physical swing! Lady Soraka has a decently long physical range (550) so use it. 40-65dmg is 40-65dmg and may make all the difference on a kill or an escape! Even if you get some hits from the creeps, you always have that handy dandy heal to save your life! Absolutely max this second, it's a must, and will transition at about the time it is maxed to it being your primary job (healing like a baws)

Starcall at level 4 just so you can farm and harass with it. Jousting in and out appropriately is a pretty difficult thing to master, but just keep practicing and you'll be good at harassing with this as well. Remember! You can phys. attack while Starcalling, so always take advantage of all your resources! Max this last. Use to farm forest mobs if you get the chance.

When you can, take wish, enough said. This is the move that makes all Karthas players rage, because it is exactly opposite to his business (and just happens to be a stronger ability, since no resistances are accounted for and the enemies cannot see it coming, I don't know about the comparison of ratios/cooldowns though[someone should help a brother out]) Use Wish wisely, as it is on a very long cooldown!

Summoner Spells

I take Teleport for 2 reasons. First, I can port back, buy a pick and Teleport back out without missing any xp/gold from the creeps. Second, as the game progresses, I can teleport to support my allies. For Lady Soraka, I feel this is the most versatile and useful summoner spell that exists.

Secondly, Heal. This spell just gets you through sticky situations. If I find myself stunned, I pop it. If we're getting ganked, I pop it, pop my ult, and hit someone with W ASAP. It gives a healer with 2 heals, a third heal, and you can't ask for more!

Summary

Soraka is an amazing champion that requires finesse, timing, awareness and strategic forethought. I use this build because it works for me and my playstyle. I only hope that someone can make good use of this build as well, as it has served me well since I picked it up from the best Lady Soraka I've ever seen played; a summoner by the name of Cam the Bam Clam. That guy...is awesome! Anyway enjoy! And please post improvements/your results below, that would just make my life so great :)
