Introduction

Well, in this guide I'll explain the way that I see Soraka as a character. She is very powerfull, and all will love you when playing in this way.

Runes

Easy to explain, we want more AP, so AP runes are the best. The Magic Penetration ones are just because we will not stand doing nothing meanwhile our heals go off cd, we want to add damage on enemys, and even score a kill.

Masteries

Those masteries are looking for surviving aganist all those champions that thinks that they'll kill you, let's say them, that they are wrong.

Items

These items are looking in one way: Let your enemys waste their gold and modify their builds into Magic Resist, or die aganist your Magic Resistance reductions, if you as a lone hero can do this, your work is done, and YOU CAN.
I always buy first the AP tome, and mana potions, then boots and go on depending on situations.
As the last item I choose Deathcap, just to get even more AP. In the most fights you won't use your heal more than once, even in full CDR, so, more AP means that your heal will be A LOT more efective.

Skill Sequence

I use this skill order, picking the heal first to help your team moving on in the first minutes of the match. I pick Starcall early because it can help A LOT while earning money, while leveling up, while assisting in kills, while preventing that your enemy hit your towers, starcall is very nice doing this. Also, in the build I suggest to adapt to use Starcall a lot, stacked 10 times, it reduces the enemy magic resist by 120, very nice.

Summoner Spells

The choice is easy, Heal to have another way to keep your team alive, and ghost to have an easy way to escape or help your allys to chase up people.

Pros / Cons

Pros:
-More versatility
-Dealing more than only direct supporting your team
-Nice way to advance, destroy towers, etc
-All those characters that cause magic damage, will LOVE you
-Great damage and more control in mid and late game

Contra:
-Susceptible to CC
-Can't heal fast all your team, only 1 person every couple seconds
-Is hard to get kills (well, is Soraka, almost Always is hard)
-Very fragile in late/end game
-Unuseful if there are less than 2 more heros doing magic damage

Team Work

As Soraka, you can help a lot in lanes, in team fight, to your jungler, even ganking.
First, in lanes, pick the lane where the most fragile character went, you can make him be very strong. Be sure to always keep both of you healed, and if someone come here to help you, heal him/her too. When you pick infuse, replenish the mana of your mate, and, if both have 75% or more mana (at least whit Infuse 1/2), use it to damage and silence the oponent, you can, whit very facility, break all the burst that an enemy is trying to do just by silencing him.
When you get starcall, this work is very easy, starcall on al creeps, a lot, advance, farm gold, an think on your future, let's help the whole team.
When team fight comes, be sure of standing in the middle of the team, not back because starcall has poor range, not in the front, you know why. In the middle you can damage, heal, silence, disturp, reduce magic resistances, etc, in a safe way. Always heal the most wounded ally, but be sure that he will survive, and you won't waste your precious heal. Often you can top an ally just by Astral Blessing + Wish + Heal, is nice to give a second chance to all your team. So remember, stack up starcall (try to not losse the stack) and always stay at a safe range.
In the start of the match, you can easily help your jungler by just walking into him and healing and/or infusing, is easy, cheap, safe, and will move your team on.
If your teammates are ganking, gank whit them, you can be an "unsafe and alone lady", the bait, or even get hidden in the bushes whit your mates, and assault your opponents whit your damage.

Ranked Play

The only thing that I can say, is that, in ranked play, try that your team get comppossed of only mages, or the more mages that you can get, also tanks that deal magic damage, not autoattackers :).
A nice team comp for 5v5 should be, Katarina, Galio or Taric, Karthus, Morgana and Soraka.
In this comp everyone benefits from your build, everyone hits harder, and forces the enemy to modify their plans and get magic resitance (that will be a waste if you want :D).
The more people that benefits from you, more problems your oponent will have.
