Hi! Welcome to my Poppy guide for the S5 top lane/Jungle. I play Poppy as an assassin with amazing burst potential and survivability throughout the entire game. Poppy is super strong and will carry you straight out of elo-hell. She is easy to play and easy to master, and once you get the hang of it, you will barely ever lose. So get ready to learn how to spank your way to the top with this guide!
In the Jungle, you want to max your q first for maximum damage. In top lane, max q first if you are winning lane. If you're losing lane, max your w for more base defense and damage. Always put points into your ult whenever you can (obviously) and always max e last.
In the jungle, I take flash and smite. You can also take ghost, but I prefer flash for the extra crafty escapes. In top lane, you can take ghost ignite/flash ignite depending on what you like. If you're up against a top you know will stomp you early game, take teleport so you're always in lane for gold and experience.
I prefer 0/17/13 in the new jungle because it is much more difficult than it used to be. this provides a bit more tankyness and sustain for the early levels until you get Ranger's Trailblazer. In top, I prefer 21/9 for the extra damage so she isn't as weak early on.
With my runes, I always take the hybrid penetration marks because they are perfect for Poppy's kit. In the seals, you can take either armor or health, which ever you see fit. In the glyphs, you can take either cdr or scaling MR. I prefer cdr. In Quints, You can go ad for a little extra early damage or lifesteal for more sustain.
Always try to stun people with your e. This helps tremendously with your damage out put on champions. When you e into the wall, be sure to get a basic in before you q. You reset your basic with your q and it deals insane damage. Wait to use bork when they flash/ghost away.
Creeping / Jungling
In the jungle, always start red so you can gank top or mid first, and for the extra damage and slow. After red, go to the wolves, they do less damage. Then get blue. After blue, gank if you can, or continue farming up if the lanes are pushed. Try not to counter jungle early on, her weak early game would probably result in a free kill for the enemy jungler. When you can, buy a pink ward and place it in the bush in front of red (by dragon or baron pits, depending on what team you're on). Gank often, but don't get behind. Gank bot to try to get them ahead and dominating in lane. This helps you get all the dragons you can, and this helps a whole lot throughout the entire game. If you're playing top, don't push lane ever. Poppy is better farming under turret, and doesn't have an incredible escape ability if ganked. Also, try to always kepp 10 stacks of Paragon of Demacia up at all times. The extra AD helps with last hitting and the Armor with defense in case they try to poke you. If they do get close enough to poke you, basic then quickly q after wards for maximum damage output, then run away. soon enough you will get the enemy champion low enough for you to dive in and secure the kill. If you're ahead in lane, roam mid and in the enemy jungle. Poppy is fast and scary if fed, and an off guard barrage almost always ensures a kill.
In team fights, it is best to be the one to engage it as Poppy. With her ultimate, you can charge into the heart of their team and into the backlines to destroy their carries. Usually, I try to ult the person with the least cc or least damage. But if you're in range, go ahead and ult any carry for the extra damage. After you kill their carries, try to go back to peel for your own. If they are well off, just kill the champion with next most damage.
Poppy is a quick and easy way for you to leap through the ranks. She is easy to learn and play ad has amazing carry potential. She is a versatile champion and can be played many ways. The best way to play her is my way, the spankin way!
