Garen Build Guide by Palthios

Im down voting this. I don't care how good looking the guide is and so on.. Because the build is far from viable in 1.4k+ ELO games! I mean Phantom Dancer and Boots of Swiftness? WHAT THA FAHK. Zeke's Herald for garen? Wit's End for garen? Attack speed simply doesn't work on him that well. You should also probably change Atma's Impaler for Randuin's Omen since the Atma's nerfs. Atma's wasn't cost effective even before the latest nerf and now its utterly **** compared to Randuins if your not on 5-6k hp

I've used this guide ever since I started Garen, and I get a positive score each match I play him. A lot of people seem to think going more tank on Garen is best, but this hardcore AD bruiser style guide is ultimately the way to go!

I hopped into a custom game and completed my build to get the new Atmas numbers real quick. At lvl 18 with just Frozen Mallet, Atmas gave me 49 damage. 51 with Zekes. Thats 6 more AD then a BF Sword. So lets do a quick price comparison.

Atmas: 2355 gold
Stats with complete build: 51 Ad, 18 crit, 45 armor

VS

BF Sword (1650g)/ chain vest (700g)/ cloak of agility (830g): 3180 gold
Stats: 45 AD, 18 crit, 45 armor

How in the hell is Atmas not cost effective? Just by doing some simple grade school math we can see how ******ed your Atmas statement is. Im not gonna bother responding to anything else as its covered in the guide.

Its not cost effective compared to randuins and a few other armor items. I like alot of items in your build. But Phantom Dancer basically won't do much for you. You already have your speed boost and without getting CC'd you can still catch up to people. Mercury treads provides more survivability and mobility than Boots of swiftness because of CC reduction. Ninja tabi decreases the AD carry's damage dealt to you by 10%. I know that your spin decreases the duration of slows. But do you plan on spinning before you reach them? I feel like Ashe or someone else who can kite would rape this build.

Atma's is more cost effective than its recipes, yes. But when you look at it it really doesn't give much. If i haven't done a total fail, it gives you 47AD 18% Crit and 45 Armor. The 47 AD is quite nice, the 18% crit is meh because it won't increase your damage by much since most of your damage will come from Q E and R. Then it also gives 45 armor which is why someone would ever get this item on a bruiser.

Randuin's Omen costs 700 more gold. But it gives 75 armor.. this is ALOT more than Atma's Impaler. 350 health , 25 health regeneration and 5% cool down reduction. Then the passive comes in, this passive is one of the best in the game in my opinion and forces AD carry's to stop focusing you. 20% chance of being hit that you slow the attackers movement speed and attack speed by 35%. this isn't 35% of their base attack speed, its 35% of their whole attack speed. And then since Garen is so mobile he can make use of the Active after diving into their team, after their carries and slowing all of their attack speed and movement speed by 35% for 2 seconds (more seconds the more resistances you have). Another plus is that this Item builds from heart of gold, so you will get a small gold income before you purchase the whole item.

Guardian Angel gives you 68 armor, again alot more than Atma's. 38 magic resist and its passive. This isn't the greatest item for Garen in my opinion, but the extra armor, magic resist and the passive is pretty much stronger than 18% crit and 47 attack damage. THis item only costs 300 more than Atma's.

Wit's end gives you attack speed but why do you build so much attack speed on Garen? Since his ability's is his main form of damage you won't auto attack much anyway, the passive "deal 42 magic damage every auto" won't do much because you use your Judgement, and "and increase your magic resistance by 5 during 5 seconds (stacks up to 4 times)" won't do much either because of this. Without these passives it only gives 30 magic resist.

Maw of Malmortius costs 600 more gold. It gives 55 Attack damage, SO MUCH BETTER THAN 40% ATTACK SPEED, 36 magic resist and more attack damage the more health you have lost. "If you would take magic damage which would leave you at less than 30% of your maximum health, you gain a shield which absorbs 400 magic damage for 5 seconds. 60 second cool down." is basically 400 health against some team comps, with potential to bait. Force of Nature isn't to bad either.

I guess Zeke's Herald can be bought if noone else on your team has it.

This is a good build for the most part since it plays to Garens strengths, however it makes him very squishy and to be honest, I havent had any amazing success with it. Ganted he can do a lot of damage and is very effective going 1 vs 1, a problem I have seen is that people tend to focus on him a lot because of that and he dies very quickly because of it, which is a big reason why I not a great fan of this build but besides that, I can admit it does a great job of killing Champions.

And saying that Tank Garen cant do anything but KS and cant farm...... I have to call BS on that one because I have tried that build out recently and had good results. His Spin can still be used to farm minions (very effectively I might add), and his Silence can come in handy especially in a team fight. Now I can see why he can be a KS since his ultimate is very powerful, however it can be avoided if you play smart with it, and though I can admit I did KS a little at first when I first tried it, I have gotten better at avoiding it and it has done very well with me so far. Heck, there have been times where I have jumped into a team fight and just Spin and silence the opposing team and I will get 5x assists as they all focus on me, and I can honestly say that most of the kills I get come from fighting the opposing teams Tank Champion, as not only can Tank Garen stay around thanks to his passive and defensive items, but he can dish out a lot more damage then most Tank Champions, and when they try to flee, that's when I hit them with Garens ultimate.

Great build. I tried it out and I ended up going 22:3:4. The stacking of Dorans items are surprisingly quite effective. +1 from me.

GREAT BUILD!!!!!+1 for me! I bought Garen cuz of this build and never reg[*] regreted it!Still good build,though if need to be fed early game to get that Infinity...I play Garen cuz of you!

I looked at your item build, liked it, and thought about the Last Whisper IMO it would be a better choice than Zeke's Herald, attack speed doesnt appeal to me as much as ARpen, on garen, at least. Also, Sunfire Cape i think would be better than a infinity edge, at least on a lane / team comp that makes you suffer.

(Of course this is all my personal opinion) :D Nice guide man, i did a triple with it on a match :)
