Yeah, just because you add auras and gold/5 items to a champ doesn't make them a support any more than a Randuin's Omen makes any character a tank. While I like unconventional builds and not sticking to one build or one way to create a champion, there are some characters that you just can't give other roles. Katrina has no abilities that affect her allies whatsoever. Heck, Warwick would make a better support then Katrina, as he at least has Hunters Call.

And also, from the Kat's I've been playing against lately, she doesn't need another role.

Since most of the obvious things have already been mentioned, I'll just point out that Mercenary is a horrible mastery. If you get a lot of gold from it you don't need it (since you're already getting ahead) and if you are having hard time it does nothing. Considering that you need 5 K/A every 10 minutes to equal the gold generation from support masteries, the mastery is a bit iffy to me.

i am not sure if u r using the term support correctly. If you are referring to a babysitter support then katarina does not fit in that category. If you mean a support that does damage to help team get kills but just doesnt do enough damage to kill on her, then that is a normal champion still.

Katarina has no CC, no heal, no shield, no buffs/debuffs(proper) and so in no way can she be considered a support. Furthermore I highly doubt you will be able to get that muhc gold for your item as a support. supporters don't kill generally. Your item build costs just under 13k and on average supporters only get 9-10k, 11k is stretching it and usually only happens if you accidentally ks or the game goes to the 50 min mark.

I'm not saying that it's amazing and you should only play support Kat, all I'm saying is that it's fun and it works. The gold from the utility tree comes from your passive and Mercenary. And grabbing Heal is necessary. It's more like a fun-to-try build that actually can work.

i am not convinced of this.. i mean: you have no shield no cc and no heal or anything that helps you lanemate. besides you do not have the Gold-masteries which are rly good for a support imo. then, an underfarmed katarina is simply useless. to my mind there are so much better support champs, i see no reason to do this.
