Hi I am a player in the Korean servers

and I am here to share with you guys a "Super Secret Hidden OP" Galio guide. My summoner name is TacoBell and although not a super high ELO player, I am confident with Galio. Although I go mid with him when the enemy takes LeBlanc or a similar nuke, i usually go top when playing Galio. My build maybe strange to some people but I promise you it will be worth your time. Hope you read through my guide to the fullest and share your thoughts on my build.

I go top with Galio and you might ask "Why?" In my opinion Galio is most suitable top as he IS still a tank, and lacks a super burst damage nuke like other AP champions. So I yield mid to a decent AP and take Galio top.

Another question I get frequently when I pick Galio is "What if they pick an AD champion to go top?" Well, that's why you don't pick Galio first. If champions like Pantheon, Talon, or GangPlank gets picked it's GG. but if the enemy is AD, but lacks super harass like Nidalee, and Irelia, go ahead and pick Galio.

For runes I take FLAT MAGIC RESISTANCE MARKS, FLAT MANA REGEN SEALS, MAGIC RESIST PER LEVEL GLYPHS, AND FLAT MAGIC RESIST QUINTS.

(I couldn't find the flat magic resist runes in the guide editor...)

Although taking magic penetration marks would improve your damage late game, I take flat magic resist marks for a bit more AP from Galio's passive and more tankiness for my early game.

For Seals I take flat mana regeneration, why not take mana regeneration per level seals? I promise you after you get your Chalice of Harmony you won't have any mana problems late game.

For Glyphs I take magic resist per level for some late game boost.

For Quints I usually take Flat magic resist for the early game advantage, but Movement speed quints are also a great choice.

"TacoBell, why are you being such a ***** going 9-12-9??? Why not 9-21-0, or 0-21-9 like a tank should?"

In offense I take up to 9% magic penetration, for extra damage late game AND to make up for my lack of magic pen. marks, and it's just an overall great stat for only 9 points.

In Defense I take up to Veteran's scar and Indomitable because they are very nice stats.. Galio does not need anymore points in defense because I usually don't take any health items for Galio (although sometimes I take it..)and putting further points into the defense tree would be a waste.

In Utility I take all mana related boost up to runic affinity. Galio have early game mana problems especially if the enemy laner is very aggressive and your only way of farming is with your abilities, taking this would help your laning phase a lot before you get your hands on chalice.

MY FAVORITE PART

If you're laning against an AD, go ahead and start with a Meki pendant or Boots and pots. This will let you farm safely from the back with your abilities if they are harassing you hard. If going against an AP, you can still start with boots or Meki pendant, but you can also start with Null-Magic Mantle for a huge early game AP boost and defense.

If going against an AD, I rush for a Frozen heart after getting Chalice and Ninja Tabi. "Tacobell, wouldn't Galio lack damage this way? Shouldn't you go for more magic resist?" Galio has very great damage early game and great escape mechanisms so you don't have to worry about damage and such, getting frozen heart early will keep you safe from the enemy and give you a lot of mana for more skill-spam.

If going against an AP, I either rush for Force of Nature, Spirit Visage, or Abyssal Sceptor. FoN if the enemy is a super harasser like Vlad, you will realize you will always be at full health with the right shield usage.(Galio's W skill) Spirit Visage is a AWESOME item for Galio. It gives health, magic resist, and more regeneration for his W skill, and Cooldown reduction. Take this item if you think you will have a longer laning phase as it is a great item for laning phase. Abyssal sceptor is a just great item for all AP champions and it is also great for Galio as it gives stats that are all nice to Galio.

Situational Items:

Thorn Mail: An underestimated item. It is really cheap to build and it synergizes with Galio's ult. Take it if their Ranged AD is fed, and or you see a Master Yi.

Shurelya's Reverie: A great item to position your self for team fights and your ult. Shurelya's + E skill = fast as hell.

Aegis of the Legion: An awesome item for any tank. It boosts your team's stats as well as yours. Take this if the enemy has a lot of AoE abilities or you just wanna be friendly.


ITEMS NOT TO GET:

Rylai's Crystal Sceptor: Does not synergize with Galio as he already has a slow skill, but the main reason not to get this item is it affects your ult. If they are slowed, melee AD champions may not reach you while ulting. This is huge as you want as much champions to pile up next to you for your team's AP burst champion or another AoE ability.

Warmog's: You are not getting Atma's, plus Galio does not need health. Just more armor and magic resist.

NOTE: I NEVER TAKE THE SAME ITEM BUILD EVERY SINGLE GAME. IT'S ALWAYS DIFFERENT BECAUSE THEY ARE NO GAMES THAT ARE EXACTLY SAME. I'M JUST PUTTING OUT RECOMMENDED ITEMS FOR GALIO.

Max Resolute Smite by level 9 as it is your primary damage skill. It has great damage and slow, and is great for farming.

What to max second? W or E? MAX W!!! Bulwark is an awesome steroid that fuels Galio. More armor and Magic resist. Gives alot of AP as well when maxed.

Why not max Righteous Gust second? It has a high mana cost for pathetic damage. Put one point at level 2 for getting away from level 2 ganks, and for Q+E farming which clears out caster minions in a wave.

FLASH: I don't think this needs any explanation honestly. It is essential for surviving early game ganks and to position yourself for your ult late game.

TELEPORT: This is a great skill for Top laners as you can support bottom lane when in need. About to go back to buy some items? take a quick look at the bottom lane and friendly ward locations. You can quickly gank bottom lane before going back. Also Teleport is necessary for early dragons.

IGNITE: Great for securing kills if you are playing mid lane, as it is the easiest lane to get a kill in my opinion.

HEAL: If you are a *****.

HOW TO USE GALIO'S ULT TO THE FULLEST

You are the Tank. So stay in front of your team. Have you ever seen a ***** Rammus? No.
If enemy is poking your team with skill shots when team fight is about to happen, put your shield on and absorb them. After you observe the enemy team, estimate the amount of CC and skill cooldowns on your enemy AND your team. Look for an opportunity and Flash + Ult. Make sure you get the enemy that has CC that can interrupt your ult in your ult so they can't stop you. If you don't have Flash ready, you can Shurelya's, and Righteous Gust into the enemy team. The reason Galio's ult is so good is because it allows your ranged AD carry to land easy hits onto the enemy while they are taunted, as well as your AP carry.

Using Bulwark

Make sure you don't act selfish with your shield. If the enemy is focusing your team's squishies, put the shield on them. If they are focusing you, put the shield on your squishies,
Second coming of Jesus? put the shield on your squishies. Make sure you keep your Carries alive as much as possible as their survivability is the key to winning a team fight. What's the point of you living a team fight after your main damage dealers are dead?

Using Righteous Gust

It's a great utility Spell that can save your teamates as well as yourself. If your Flash is down but teamfight is unavoidable, you can initiate with Righteous Gust and Shurelya's to go in to the enemy team.

Galio is a great champion for farming any lane.

Q+E clears out the caster minions and if you look at my mastery page, you will notice I raise attack damage. It is a Great stat for easy last hitting early game, especially since Galio is melee, missing a CS after taking harassment just for 1 CS really puts you down :(

Galio is really good against heavy snowball teams that include champions like LeBlanc and such. As soon as you see a LeBlanc for mid lane, choose and go with Galio. Galio is a great pick for any team composition because he is a huge team player with his ult and Bulwark. I haven't played a thousand games with Galio but I know what I'm doing.
