Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
This is a build for advanced players. i will not be outlining the duties of a tank, but merely explaining how this build can accomplish all of the duties. this tankplank build will allow for you to be a bully, control zones, and protect your team from skill shots very effectively.
as a tank gangplank has many advantages. most obvious would be his ability to lay down cannon barrage anywhere at any time. this allows him to assist the team in securing kills, which is important. but more importantly he can lay it down as a way to assist the team in escaping(as a tank this is the more important use), he can also use it to defend towers.
with the frozen mallet you can not only use parrrley to assist your team in chasing down those people who mistakenly think that they have a chance of escape, but you can assist your team in escaping as well. make sure you are helping your team escape when needed.
remove scurvy is the biggest reason gangplank makes an awesome tank. once you have the cool down reduction from the glacial shroud it has a decently low cool down. and because you took the chalice of harmony early on you can practically spam the spell every time it comes off cool down without getting too low on mana. when i tank with gangplank i use this to catch any an all skill shots that i can. trust me your team will thank you when you catch caitlyns ult and then heal the majority of the damage. or when you save someones *** by catching morganas snare and then removing it immediately.
raise moral is useful in tanking for the same reasons as paring parrrley with a frozen mallet. pairing parrrley with raise moral will ensure your team captures and kill the enemy or escape all the same. also be sure to use it whenever your team is moving together. the extra speed will help to catch the enemy off guard.
most people i have talked to have mixed feelings on who should be farming when in lane with a tank. personally i think the farming should be split 50/50 with the dps taking the large minions. farming early on with a tank allows for you to get buff very fast. and the advantage of that is you can then push people where ever you want with impunity thanks to your remove scurvey.
the only item that might need some explaining is the chalice of harmony. i get this before anything else as it allows me to spam all of my abilities non stop. after getting it i will very very rarely have a moment where im low on mana.
obviously the boots are debatable depending on the enemy team. if they are packing 2 ap carry's then i would suggest switching to the merc treads.
the only items that aren't interchangeable are the frozen mallet(needed for you parrrley to be effective in protecting the team),the chalice of harmony, and the frozen heart(the cooldown is invaluable in allowing you to make up for any mitigation your gear or runes are lacking)
