Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
Hello and welcome to my Jungle Riven tutorial.
In this tutorial i will show you how did i get out of elohell from 1018 to 1300 (and still rising). For this tutorial to work you should ask your friend to duo queue with you and take some strong solotop/mid hero. Also VOIP messaging (Skype/Ventrilo) is highly suggested for successfull ganks.
This tutorial is not made to get highest possible KD ratio. Instead of that you will carry your ad carry, solotop and mid to killing machines. My usual statses with this way is 3/2/11.
You will initiate alot of teamfights so get ready to die and watch your teammates pwn them all.
For runes i suggest my runebuild. You can also go for full AD runebook, but in my opinion riven works best as tanky fighter. Cooldown runes might also work but i haven't tried them.
For masteries you can go anything you like. For me offensive ones work better and let you clean the jungle faster. However full defensive masteries would be good if your team don't have tanky champs.
For items you start by Cloth Armor and 5 Health Potion
Then you build Wriggle's Lantern as soon as possible.
After that you should build your boots depending on enemy team. You should choose between Ninja Tabi or Mercury Treads. Ninja tabis if they have alot of auto attackers (this might chance when dodge remove patch is out). And Mercury Treads if they have alot of Crowd Control or very fed AP Caster.
For summoner spells i suggest Smite for faster jungling and buffstealing etc. Ignite is for more powerful ganks. Riven doesn't need Flash, Ghost or any other escape spell in jungle, because you can escape from almost everyone with Q and E. You can also consider taking Exhaust instead of Ignite
Jungle routes + Ganking.
And now let's talk about the mainpoints of this guide.
First you should buy those Cloth Armor and Health potion and go to your or their Red Buff. If they have someone who will start from blue golem feel free and steal his Red. Right after that gank the lane that you are closest to. Remember to tell your teammates to not push because you will gank at level 2.
After successfull gank (atleast they used flash) head to mid for gank. After that you should take blue and gank the last lane or if you decided to steal enemy red go and take your red so enemy can't take it.
You should get atleast 1-3 kills from ganking and you notice that your teammates are alot higher level than your enemy, because you forced them to recall. The cons about this is that you might be even less farmed than enemy.
At that moment your teammates should be able to handle their lanes by their own and you can focus on farming @ jungle and counterjungling. If you see that there would be 100% successfull gank somewhere, go ahead and do it. But try to keep yourself atleast -1 level from their duo lane. If you are 2-3 levels behind enemy duo lane your ganks would be quite useless. Remember that Riven with ignite can win almost any enemy junglers 1on1 except the ones that can jungle without smite (Shyvana, Shaco other Riven without smite etc) Usually they have smite too so you should be the queen of jungle.
At that point you should have built some armor/magic resist and hp. So when teamfight is going to begin, just get in and let your team follow you. You have somekind of knockback on Q and stun on E. Usually enemy team kills you first but those CC:s and farmed teammates should take care of them.
As you might have noticed this isn't a "Complete how to play Riven and how does her abilities work" Guide. You should have some knowledge about her abilities before trying to jungle. When ganking please don't spam your abilities. Her passive stacks 3 times so usual gank should be like that:
You run from bush -> Q -> E -> You are next to enemy -> W (stun)-> Auto attack -> Q -> Q/autoattack -> autoattack/Q.
