Introduction
By having flat AP runes you allow yourself to reach a damage potential of over 100 with a level one q which with its short cooldown and multi-target effect allows for great poking efficiency as well as excellent early farm. Some will say AP per level is better but i prefer flat because id rather sacrifice under 20 AP late game to get an early game lane dominance and money advantage through kills.
items are not set in stone, there is a little leeway built in to the item build. for instance if you feel that you are starving for health or that the slow would be more useful, rush rylai's and Zhonya's before lich bane, which i do quite frequently. this equates to more ability damage and sustainability, however a skilled player will get more benefit out of the lich bane passive. also if you have bought sorceres and find yourself at 650 gold level 2 or 3 or 4, feel free to sell dorans ring to but the blasting wand instead of waiting for the rod. i rarely do this because rod is such a large AP bonus that it is worth waiting for. sell Dorans ring anytime you are 200 or less away from a large item, it is not worth keeping around. either way this sequence of items will get you relatively early damage and keep it up through to being a great enabler, chaser, and sweeper late game.
your q is your best ability, with the item progression by level 8 ive been hitting for well over 500 damage, it sets up great for team fights and can be deceptive enough to baiting people after you and you can just own them. after you get damage you want to up the duration of charm so that you can be an effective set up for your team or for yourself in giving you or them 2 seconds to do whatever you want to your target with no repercussions.
Set up, set up, set up. if its a 5v5 and someone is lagging a little behind on a small fallback, ult at him, charm him, fox-fire and orb him, and if your team cant finish him from there use your two remaining ults to chase him down. most of the time your targets team will rush at you and try to kill you, your orb will hit them, and you will ult to safety and your team will sweep them up. stay on the outskirts and be prepared to repeat.
