This guide is currently incomplete so there will be some content missing. I will try my hardest to update the guide whenever possible.
From the moment I saw Poppy in the shop and realized that I had never seen her being played, I had fell in love with underplayed champions. I constantly search up the least popular champions in the game and I eventually ended up with Viktor. I tried him out when he was free and I couldn't stop playing him. I had tried multiple builds, skill orders and pretty much everything on Viktor and now I have come to share my knowledge with you.
This is my very first guide on Mobafire and it would really help if you can read through the guide thoroughly, comment, vote and ask me any questions about it.
Now, of course, this is only a guide and I am not here to tell you what to do. This guide is here to help you get a basic understanding of the champion. It is very important that you adapt to different situations.
Pros and Cons
+ Massive burst damage
+ Pretty high AP ratios
+ Excellent poke with his Death Ray
+ AOE slow/stun with his Gravity Field
+ AOE ultimate with his Chaos Storm
+ Can easily clear a creep wave with his Death Ray
+ Good in teamfights AND 1v1s
+ HE CAN SHUFFLE
- 3 skillshots
- Rather mana hungry
- Slow movement speed
- No built-in escape
Spiritless Summoner Spells
FLASH: A must-have for Viktor as he has no built-in escape. Flash can also be used aggressively. For example, Flash towards an enemy, put down a Gravity Field to slow/stun them then burst them down with your combo.
IGNITE: An aggressive summoner spell. Use it to finish off enemies at low health or even use it at the beginning of a duel to get 5 extra AD and AP from Summoner's Wrath . Also, Ignite works very well with Augment: Death.
GHOST: Viktor's base movement speed is very low (325) so grabbing Ghost can help you both defensively and offensively.
TELEPORT: With Teleport, you can recall to base, heal up or buy some items, then get back to lane without losing too much CS, gold and experience. Teleport also allows you to gank other lanes by surprise.
Ability Overview and Sequence
Viktor's passive is probably the most special in the game. He starts each game with a unique item just for Viktor, The Hex Core, similar to Rengar's Bonetooth Necklace except The Hex Core cannot be sold back to the shop. The original item gives Viktor 3 ability power per level and can be upgraded into other augments (more about augments later on) for a pretty decent price of 1000 gold.
This passive is probably the main reason why some people hate Viktor as it takes up an inventory slot and cannot be sold but in my opinion, it's actually a pretty good item once you upgrade it into an augment so it's certainly not a waste of an item slot to me.
Power Transfer does two things; it deals damage and also shields Viktor. The shield is equal to 40% of the damage the ability deals. Although the shield isn't massive, it certainly helps with your survival in battle. Power Transfer's the only non-skillshot ability on Viktor but it has a rather short cast range so only max it first if the enemy you're facing is very short ranged (e.g. Fizz).
Gravity Field is Viktor's AOE slow/stun. If an enemy remains in the Gravity Field for 1.5 seconds, they are stunned for another 1.5 seconds. This ability is great for both small fights such as 1v1s and teamfights. Since the cast range of Gravity Field is very short, you would have to get really close to the enemy to cast it, which may be very risky. But if you DO land the stun, you'll be able to land your Death Ray more easily and dish out a ton of damage. This ability can also be used to save yourself and teammates. Place a Gravity Field down and they'll either be slowed then stunned or forced to walk around it.
Death Ray is probably Viktor's most well-known ability. It basically deals A LOT of damage to all enemies in a line and has a very long range, making it great for poking and clearing a creep wave. The cast method of this ability is similar to Rumble's ultimate. If you're not confident with skillshots then Power Transfer may be the better choice for you but mastering this ability is very, very rewarding as it really deals a lot of damage. You can even use it while moving!
R - Ultimate
Chaos Storm is Viktor's ultimate ability. It deals AOE magic damage every second for 7 seconds and silences enemies in the area for 0.5 seconds. Although it's good as a part of your combo for bursting a single enemy down, it's best in teamfights. This ability does use up a lot of mana so make sure to use it wisely.
This sequence is the most common. It provides a lot of safe harass but it's rather unreliable and requires quite a bit of time and learning to master. Go with this sequence if you're confident with your skillshots and/or the enemy you're facing in lane has quite a bit of range.
This sequence is not very commonly used and although Power Transfer deals damage AND gives a shield, it has a very short cast range so only go with this sequence if your laning enemy is short ranged or if you're not very confident with your skillshots.
JUST KIDDING! :P But seriously, do NOT max Gravity Field before ANYTHING! Gravity Field is only used to slow/stun people and does not deal any damage or shield anything so always max it last.
In my honest opinion, I think this augment is the worst of all three. The amount of health it gives is quite little and the sustain it provides is also small. The only good thing about this augment is probably the movement speed boost it gives when you use your Power Transfer but still, I reckon other augments are much better.
This augment is pretty useful and quite worth the gold. The bonus cast range on Gravity Field allows you to land the stun without getting into a very dangerous position. This augment also provides what AP casters such as Viktor needs; it gives cooldown reduction, mana and mana regeneration. It allows you to cast spells a bit more often but it does sacrifice ability power, which is essential for your damage.
This is my most preferred augment. It gives ability power and also a damage-over-time effect on your Death Ray. Even if you're not very confident with skillshots, you can still get this augment for the ability power.
Greater Mark of Magic Penetration
Greater Seal of Armor
Greater Glyph of Magic Resist
Greater Quintessence of Ability Power
Very good rune for dealing more damage to enemies with magic resist.
A brilliant defensive rune. Helps you survive against AD champions or even just auto-attacks in a duel.
Just like the Armor Seal, this is a very good defensive rune. Helps you take less damage from the enemy AP carry.
Pretty explanatory. Gives you ability power, helping you deal more damage with your abilities.
The reason our masteries are 21/0/9 is because Viktor is a bursty mage so we would want to get as much damage as possible. Other than that, the mastery points are pretty self-explanatory.
Starting ItemsViktor. Boots of Speed helps you dodge skillshots and also escape ganks and fights during early laning phase. The 3 health potions provide you with sustain and since you already have points in Meditation and mana regeneration seals, you don't need to replace one of the health potions with a mana one.
AlternativesViktor. It provides a lot of sustain in lane but it leaves you very vulnerable to ganks since your base movement speed is quite slow. Viktor. Gives health, ability power and mana regen. Always get health potions as you have no other form of sustain.
Early GameChalice of Harmony gives magic resist and lots of mana regen. Try to get Augment: Death for more damage and more powerful LAZORS! Next, get a Blasting Wand for the Rabadon's Deathcap later.
Mid GameRabadon's Deathcap = MOAR DAMAGE! The Enchantment: Alacrity helps make up for your uber slow movement speed and the Needlessly Large Rod will be used to build into a Zhonya's Hourglass later on.
Late GameZhonya's Hourglass for the damage and survivability, Athene's Unholy Grail for the mana regen, cooldown reduction, magic resist and even more damage, and Void Staff to burn through the enemies stacking magic resist.
- Pretty good item for Viktor. Has a slow, gives ability power and also health, which Viktor really needs to boost his survivability in fights.
- Burn, burn, BURN! When used with Augment: Death, Viktor will deal a TON of damage over time. Gives health, ability power and magic penetration.
- Gives ability power, cooldown reduction, mana regen and makes your spells apply Grievous Wounds. Good item against champions like Vladimir or Swain.
- Gives a lot of ability power and a bit of cooldown reduction. Also has an epic active which you can use to deal even MORE burst damage to the enemy!
