Yorick Build Guide by The GooDHam

Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
When Yorick came out free for the first time, I wanted to see the champ that everyone called a wimp. I wanted to prove them wrong and well, I did. Three games in a row I tried Yorick out in ranked games and in all of them my contribution to the team was great and we won the two of them. These matches were 5v5 Solo Queque matches so I pretty much was alone. I had no clue that others would try out health till one of my teammates told me but then it was too late. I had already gotten Manamune and were building Banshee's Veil. Well you know, this was the first build that came to my mind then and it darn works pretty well. Sure, Yorick needs some buffing up with having no CC except his slow but he is not that bad now and he will be getting a little buff with the next patch. Anyway, Here is GooDHam's build. Hope it helps you enjoy Yorick More. I built him up tanky.
Note: Sorry for the bad statistics, it seems "Mobafire"'s Yorick stats are messed up. He in no hell has 70 Movement speed. Hope it gets fixed soon.
Another Side Note: Sorry for the bleak guide but I'm afraid it'll have to stay this way until I figure how to color it with items and stuff.
I have tinkered with the masteries a little and added another one. Thanks to "egotisticalnoob
" for his suggestion.
Pros / Cons
Can give a good carry to tear the enemy apart.
Life steal skill E makes him such a good laning champion.
Able to slow all of the enemy champions.
Doesn't have any initiation.
No Crowd Control at all. (Stuns, taunts, etc.)
Weak without his minions.
I went offense because going defense would, in my opinion, make Yorick a bit weaker and you want him in perfect shape to reanimate the dead and turn the tides. Of course you can go defense masteries if you want to be more tanky but really, you don't need that much defense and it does not help as much as offense masteries do.
The spells I get are Exhaust and Ignite but you don't have to go through with these as they are my preferance of spells. Whenever I get a ad carry, %90 of the time my spells are this and usually with tanky heroes as well but as I said, you don't have to. Exhaust is really usefull for weakening and enemy hero and ignite stops healing effects so, I suggest you take these.
Hey! I have not tried jungling with Yorick yet so I'll talk a little about laning with him. Using your E is the key to laning your best and you cannot spam that little skill unless you have Tear of the Goddess. Your First item to get should be that but I prefer to start with Doran's Blade because you need some health and the lifesteal also helps you stay in lane untill Tear of the Goddess. You want to harass the enemy champions with this skill but after a while, they will learn their lesson and stay clear of range and behind their turret. Sure, you can still hit them and evade the tower but it is not very easy. And as a side note, the minions dont get focused when they attack an enemy champion by the tower so even after u run the minion should hit one or two times to heal you more. Unlike how most people think, Yorick is such a good pusher.
1- Doran's Blade / I start off with this for the bonus health and life steal as it helps.
2- Tear of the Goddess / This is my second item to get even before the boots because you really want to spam your E if you want to stay in lane and don't get trashed around by the enemy. This is the key to Yorick's ownage in a lane.
3- Boots of Lucidity / These boots really work well together with Tear of the Goddess because you can spam your skills faster and harass the enemy more harder and also keep your health bar fuller!
4- Frozen Heart or Banshee's Veil / You want to get some mana to prepare for the upcoming Manamune and you should get either of these according to the enemy team.
5- Frozen Heart or Banshee's Veil / You should get the one you didn't as in the third step to buff up both your defense and magic resistance.
5- Manamune / You got Tear of the Goddess for this item and here is the time to buy it. The reason you get this after Frozen Heart and Banshee's Veil is that you don't have much mana before you buy these two and the extra mana you get from these two really helps.
6- Warmog's Armor / You are tanky, you need MORE health and Warmog's Armor is the thing for you. Of course you can get other stuff like Frozen Mallet but believe me, HP regeneration reaely helps and this gives the biggest amount of HP. And you WANT to get health here because your minions NEED health from this point on if they want to be useful in the least
7- Guardian Angel or The Bloodthirster / Now is the last item that decides your build. You can get either Guardian Angel or "ANOTHER" Warmog's Amor to really buff your health or some other tank item like Thornmail if there are ad carries that own you or if you want to get more damage yourself, then The Bloodthirster is the thing. You see, your ulti and all your other minions give you lifesteal and if you have four of your minions alive, well, your health bar will go up like crazy and your E will give more life to you.
Thanks a lot for reading my build and I'd love to hear creative comments from all of you! Let's get Yorick back in the game so people stop calling Yorick useless. In everygame I thought about it by clicking on the champion, people reacted from protesting to swearing to even leaving the game so it really annoys me that they do. See you and if this build gets a nice rating, I'll improve it but for now, this is all.
