Jax is a tanky DPS, and although you may find him a bit weak early game, he dominates late game. This build is made to output lots of damage along with great sustain, comparable to that with gunblade stacking, if not better.
Pros / Cons

- You can backdoor later game successfully if the other team is too fed for you to deal with
- Great sustain
- Unstoppable late game
- May be a bit difficult to get enough farm early on
- Jax is a bit weak early game, best to harass first
- Expensive Items
Farming is really easy with Jax, and after level six it gets ridiculously easy. After you have revolver and bloodthirster though, you should start roaming, clearing jungles and ganking for kills, unless you feel that you are underfarmed early on, then just push and farm your lane
Item Order and stuff
I like to get ability tome and a health potion first, and put the first skill point in leaping strike. Leaping strike actually deals more damage then empower at the first point, and it allows you to harass better. After sometime in lane, you should be able to back and get the second tome, or even the revolver all together. Once you have this, your sustain is greatly increased, since the passive of the r makes it so that every third auto attack deals magic damage, you get spell vamp from that as well as your abilities. After revolver get ninja tabi then work on getting bloodthirsters.
Sometime mid game you buy Will of ancients, which will not only give you sustain on the level of the old gunblade stacking, (Gunblade is nerfed so you cant stack spell vamp and its over all stats are a bit weaker now) but the damage output will be better. Once you get Rageblade, you should be unstoppable 1v1 and even 2v1 in some cases. At this point you should be roaming, clearing jungles and ganking for kills throughout this stage.
At this point you should be a great asset in team fights. You have an AOE stun, great sustain, and with atma's it should be really hard to get rid of you. You even have the option of backdooring as Jax can Backdoor like a boss with this.
Runes and Masteries
For runes the dodge yellows are definitely the best choice, as for the others, it can vary with preference I feel.
Masteries: I use 0/21/9 mainly for the Ardor mastery, but the other stuff in it is great too.
For summoner spells, I think the best options are ghost and exhaust; Ghost is great for escaping enemies should the need arise and it is also great for chasing down those low on health. Exhaust is great for the same reasons.
Flash: Flash can be a substitute for ghost, it is a matter of preference.
Ignite: If you find yourself unable to get that last hit on the champ, take this.
Teleport: if you have to solo top or just feel like you need the mobility then this can also be useful.
Smite: you aren't jungling.
Clairvoyance: This should be used by supports
Clarity: Jax doesn't really have mana problems, at least I don't have them with him.
Fortify: its nice I guess, but it doesn't last long enough to be that useful imo
Heal: you really don't need heal
Rally: I never saw this spell used effectively
Cleanse: if you see that the enemy team is heavy on CC, it may not be a bad idea to pick this up.
Revive: I should hope that you don't die to much with this build xD.
Quick Silver Sash: if the enemy team has heavy CC and you need some MR
Warmogs: Works great with Atma's impaler
Force of Nature: The enemy is stacked on AP
Thornmail: All AD enemy team
