Introduction

Hi guys! Welcome to my 1st guide on Mobafire. Thanks for stopping by and reading my guide!

Anyway, My favorite champion used to be Garen for quite a long time. Until "Scarra" inspired me to play Katarina. Ever since S4 has started, some items and masteries have changed which have effected the way I play Garen. Although some items have been priced lower like Aegis of the Legion.

For runes I take Greater Marks of Armor Penetration, Greater Seals of Armor, Greater Glyphs of Scaling Magic Resist, and Greater Quintessences of Movement speed.


Greater Mark of Armor Penetration is to deal more damage to have a higher chance of forcing your enemies out of lane and to counter that enemy tank.

Greater Seal of Armor is for extra armor against your AD lanes. These runes also help you to take less damage from ADC with strong abilities like Caitlyn or Jinx

Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist for extra magic resist if fighting an APC or any gank from the enemy APC. These runes aren't really needed, but they are useful in some situations.

Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed for extra speed to run/catch up with your enemies. These really help Garen because he can be easily kited. But with the extra movement speed, you can catch up.

For masteries I prefer to go 21/9/0 because you need a bit of armor pen and some damage if going full tank, while also having some defence if going AD. In offence I take all the damage and attack speed, while in defence I take all the health. This is really useful on Garen because you can deal a bit of damage while tanking a lot of the damage from champions and be able to heal with Recovery combined with your passive.

For the masteries you need:

Double-Edged Sword (x1) for the 2% extra damage. This is useful for both AD and Tank because damage is an addition to your AD you have and if you are going tank then you have some extra damage while you are tanking.

Butcher (x1) to help you last hit. This mastery is quite useful because maybe about 20 minions is equal to the amount of money a champion gives. Last hits also are needed to dominate and have more gold income to survive and push your lanes and to get more kills which equal more money.

Feast (x1) for what seems to be like a 1% life steal but except it is only for last hits. This mastery gives mana which is not needed for Garen, but it still gives health.

Brute Force (x3) for extra AD scaling that help you late game which help you do more damage.

Fury (x4) for extra attack speed. To be honest, this mastery can be useful or not. It depends on which roll you playing. If you are AD, then this is useful. If going tank, it's almost useless. But the reason you should get this is because attack speed is better than cool down reduction. And it can still help you get those last hits.

The reason why you should get Decisive Strike is because of the movement speed and increased damage it gives you. Decisive Strike helps Garen not to be kited by other champions like Ezreal

Your Courage should be maxed last because it has the least effect on Garen. You should use this to run away or tower dive.

Your "Spin to Win" Judgment should be levelled up sooner because of the damage it does while trying to chase/run away. Judgment should be used right after Decisive Strike to speed you up and quickly deal damage right after it is done being used.
