Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
Welcome to my guide to Teemo, the Swift Scout. This guide will go over the basics of playing as AP Teemo in a solo lane (Top or Mid lane). As Teemo, you will be able to 1v1 like nobody else, and you will have an easy time last hitting and pulling in kills. You will be safe from ganks with proper muchroom placement, and you will be able to land quick easy kills with your burst/damage over time. I will cover farming, harrassing, and mushroom placement in this guide. Enjoy!
Pros / Cons
Easy farming with poison
Counters AD Carries
High movement speed
Unable to be ganke due to mushrooms
Focused by teams if you are getting fed
People naturally hate Teemo (I don't see why!)
Countered by Oracles/Sight Wards
I like to use Ignite with Flash. You won't be needing anything else honestly. Ignite helps you finish off a low hp opponent, and Flash will either help you get in range to do so, or it will help you escape any gank that happens to come to your lane. It can also be used to dodge any incoming CC that would put you in a bad position. Other viable options for Summoner Spells would be Teleport, Exhaust, and Heal if you really don't like how squishy you are.
I like to go with a 0/9/21 setup for masteries. You may be thinking that it's stupid to not have any sort of damage in the offensive skill tree. Well honestly, the CDR that you receive from the utility tree is much better than that in the offensive tree. You can spam your abilities and make your opponents either run or die. The points in the defensive tree are obvious ones: more survivability = not so squishy Teemo.
AP Teemo is a great last hitter with his passive poison. WARNING: You do not need to use shrooms to clear minion waves! It is a waste of mana and a waste of the true potential of mushroom placement. At first, you will want to hit the minions as they are low, so you aren't pushing your lane and begging to die from an early gank. Harass the enemy solo as you last hit. This will make them afraid to last hit since you will most likely be going up against a bruiser at top or an AP in mid. If you are top (which is better in most situations) you can completely deny an enemy AD bruiser during the early phases of farming. Once you hit level 6, start placing mushrooms EVERYWHERE. In the bushes, near baron, at your team's/the ENEMY team's buffs, and anywhere else you can think of. Your shrooms last a very long time, and they will save you from any incoming ganks, so now you can push your lane. At this point, you will no longer need wards to keep you safe. Once you get some AP stacked up, last hitting is a breeze. Attack each creep in a minion wave once and watch their hp drop. If your poison doesn't finish them, make sure you last hit them still. Also make sure that you last hit the large minions as well. You should by now be outfarming everyone or almost everyone in the game. (If you aren't outfarming your lane matchup, then you're doing it wrong!)
You want to start with a Regrowth Pentant and as many Health Potions as you can buy. (Feel free to throw in a Mana Potion if you feel like using up some mana while harrassing.) After your first recall, buy a Philosopher's Stone and a Kage's Lucky Pick. You may also buy Boots if you have enough gold or if you feel like you need the movement speed before Kage's Lucky Pick. These gold per 5 seconds items will bring your gold income to an even higher state, making last hitting less important (although you still should), and you can now focus more on harrassing/pushing top lane. Your boots will be very situational. There are times where Sorcerer's Shoes are best, or where Mercury Treads will save you from certain CC death. The rest of the build goes as follows, not much explanation is needed. Always open with Deathfire's Grasp in a fight and then use Blinding Dart. That should guarantee a kill on almost any AD Carry if you are in a 1v1. Your Lich Bane proc should do the rest. If not, the passive on your Toxic Shot will net you a kill. Best of luck and enjoy!
It's been a while since I updated my guide. Since then, a bug was fixed with Teemo's passive Toxic Shot, correcting the damage, which ultimately increased his DPS. No nerfs have been passed on him if I remember correctly. Keep enjoying this little guy!
