Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
So you want to know how to solo top Garen, huh? It isn't hard; in fact, he's the easiest champion to solo top as. I'l hopefully go over everything you need to know in this guide.
Alright, these runes are pretty standard and I don't see much point in changing them. They give a good balance and they stack with Courage very well. The Quintessences give you a good starting AD, allowing you to win early fights without having many items, along with the Armor Pen marks. The seals and glyphs are more to let you survive all the way from early to late game.
As with the runes, basic masteries as well. I recommend taking AD and extra damage all through your masteries. The nine points in defense are more for the health than anything else. I take more points in armor because you will probably be going against another AD carry top.
For those of you who didn't know, Garen's Judgement crits. It doesn't say critical, but instead, it shows a sword above the target's head. You can put our insane amounts of damage if you have enough critical strike chance. I get the avarice blade early to milk the 5 gold per 10 seconds, and get boots early also so I can initiate and run away if needed. The Infinity Edge increases crit damage, and also gives you your base crit chance, as well as your damage. The Frozen Mallet is mainly so that people can't get away from you if they're stacking health, and you have to chase them. The Atma's Impaler and Warmog's Armor are pretty self explanatory, as they give you survivability late game and some extra damage. You can also upgrade your Avarice Blade into a Yooumu(I think I spelled that right) Ghostblade, although it isn't really necessary.
I prefer getting Judgement over Decisive Strike first, because it does more damage if you use it right. Judgement does more damage if you hit them for the whole three seconds. You're always going to be initiating fights with Decisive Strike though. You should only use Courage when you are being attacked, as it does have around a 30 second CD time. Garen's ultimate is a joke. I don't know what Riot was thinking when they put this in the game. It's very easy to steal kills with this, and you can even use it to finish people off. This hurts people even worse if they're stacking health. If you get someone down to 10% health, it's a Garenteed(You see what I did there?) kill. Another thing that is worth mentioning is Garen's passive. This is one reason he is an amazing solo top. He NEVER has to leave his lane. I rarely ever leave my lane because of low health. It's always just because I have enough gold for my next item.
You always want to take flash, no matter what happens. Your Decisive Strike is pretty much just like ghost, so there isn't any reason to take it. As for ignite or exhaust, it's up to you.
So, that's it. I'm sorry that it doesn't have any fancy graphics, but I might put some of those in later. Leave a comment if I left something out, and thanks for reading through my first guide.
