oh lol, i got confused, thought that was someone else replying to your guide, and i wen't after them for it. as a tank... it is better to get the slow since it will help with ganks more to have cc, your laners should be able to do enough damage. Also, a good team will counter jungle maokai out the ***, like, a recent match i played, they did it so much i was underleveled by like 3 or 4 levels by the end of the match. ruined the game. and i definitely couldn't get blue. trust me, at high level matches, you will want to max arcane smash. and to land sapling toss you often have to jump in with twisted advance anyways, so they can't escape the sapling, so since you're already getting up close it seems like it'd be better to max the arcane smash first. if you're worried about damage, get sapling toss up to level 2 or 3, that gives enough damage output.
Perphaps, I just find the slow on  Arcane Smash not really as potent as extra damage off  Sapling Toss. Thx either way.Quoted:

Solid AP mao guide. and FINALLY people are starting to get the new masteries right. Honor guard does noooooothing. :P
On play strategy later, I find that your cc is extremely useful for keeping the enemy team off your carry, and that it's not always the best decision to use your abilities in the middle of the battle (occasionally). Worth a mention at least. Also, it's kiiinda iffy to run a Jungle Maokai build without g/5. Just difficult to have the money for something like rylai's and deathcap. Thanks,  Honor Guard

Y U NO THINK MAOKAI NO OP!!!!! I have actually gotten triple kills as full tank Maokai. As have I... But then its not that kind of *close your eyes and right click for penta* kind of ppl, besides, those kills could have gone to your teammates.... Quoted:

Really good guide, but you should start with the standard cloth armor + 5 pots instead of dorans ring since the cloth armor builds into the frozen heart and this adds more sustain in the jungle, and because you kill the wraith camp so fast you should head directly to the golem and your teammates can still leash it for you, allowing you to gank without going back to base. (This guide also helped me make my Nautilus build so thank you ^^). + Rep me if my comment was helpful.
