*Hard to gank when Highlander is up
*Gets extreme damage without items because of WujuStyle
Cons:
*Naturally squishy without items
*Vulnerable to Hard CC like stun, fear and snare
*Has no CC (except slow from FrozenMallet)
*Needs much gold to be effective because of him being naturally squishy

For Runes I take:
Flat AD Marks
Why?
I use flat AD marks because it gives you an early game advantage and makes last-hitting and pushing easier. I personally think it's in the early early-game it's decide who is going to win the lane. If you get an early advantage you can snowball from there and then dominate the rest of the game.
Flat Armor Seals
Why?
As I said before most times by winning your lane early you can snowball rest of the game. Most Solotop champs also is AD so I think that armor seals is most effective, but flat hp or per level is also a very good choice.
MR per level Glyphs
Why?
As a solotop:er you have the longest lane phase and sometimes lane more or less the entire game. So when the lane phase ends and it starts to become teamfights with magic damage involved, the MR per level runes gives more MR than the flat ones. Flat MR is better if you get ganked by the enemy ap mid:er a lot in the lane phase.
Armor Pen. Quintessences
Why?
Armor Pen. becomes more powerful than flat AD in lategame. That's why i mix.
Masteries:
I take 21/9/0
I make sure to take lifesteal and health regen for sutain and the standard offensive AD tree.
Skill Sequence:
I take Q at level 1 for harass and max it second. Make sure to have double strike ready before alpha striking to harass for maximal damage.
I take E at level 2 and max it first for the damage. Maxing E first allows me to build tanky from already in early game but still have the same damage as my enemy.
I take W at level 4 and max it last. The heal amount is small at early levels which prevents it from being effective. But taking one point has saved me lots of times from ignite, poison and bleed. The ablitiy is in other cases ****!

My Core build which i almost never change is Wriggle's, Frozen Mallet, Atma's Impaler and Wit's End. I know four items might look much for a core but with Master Yi's farm you will have this core build when everyone else has 2-3 items. These items synergizes really well with each other. They give so much compared to their cost Armor, MR, Crit, AD, AS, HP, A constant ward, Slow and a passive chance to hit the mobs extra hard. The last one mentioned is a really good one for pushing even though some people thinks it's a wasted stat for solotop.
