Introduction

Hi I just want to say something before i start my guide.
First I want to say I´m just a stupid guy from Germany so my English is not that good.
This is my first guide....so be nice to me.
The reason why i made this guide is that I haven´t seen anyone playing Thresh in top lane as an AD Offtank.
I don´t think that i play this champ in perfection but i want to inspire some people to try him in top lane.
If you have any questions simply write a comment.

Who is Tresh ?

Thresh is a twisted reaper whose hungry chains ensnare the souls of the living. A moment's hesitation at the sight of his ghostly visage and there is no escape. He leaves in his wake hollow corpses, their souls ripped loose and trapped in the sickly green light of his lantern. The Chain Warden takes sadistic joy in tormenting his victims, both before and after their deaths. His grim task is never complete, and he stalks the land for ever more resolute spirits to unravel.

Thresh carves careful, deliberate paths through Valoran. He handpicks his targets individually, devoting his full attention to each soul in turn. He isolates and toys with them, gradually eroding their sanity with his twisted, maddening humor. Once Thresh takes an interest in a soul, he does not relent until he possesses it. He then drags those he captures back to the Shadow Isles for an unimaginably dreadful fate. This is his only purpose.

Little is known about the Chain Warden's past, and many of the details live only in nursery rhymes and campfire tales. They tell of a sadistic jailer from centuries past who took great delight in torturing his wards. Patient and brutal, he used a variety of methods to break his victims' minds before their bodies succumbed to his grisly designs. Chains were the jailer's preferred instruments of terror. Their shrill scrape marked his dreadful approach and promised agony to those he visited. His dark reign went unchallenged until his prisoners escaped during a massive riot. They overwhelmed him, and without ceremony or remorse, hanged him from his own chains. Thus began the unlife of the horrible specter known as Thresh, or so the tales go.

Thresh now haunts the land, leaving an aftermath of horror and despair. However, there is a devious purpose behind his dark machinations, and the meager spirits of average men are insufficient. He seeks stronger souls. Only when he has broken the wills of Valoran's most resilient warriors will he finally have what he needs.

"There are few things as invigorating as taking a mind apart, piece by piece."

Why build Thresh like this ?

If you build Thresh like this you will do the most of your damage with your autohits. The passive of will do an big amount of extra damage with every autohit.
If you farm well you will still have allot of AP so your spells won´t be useless.

I build Thresh with allot of Magic Resistance and some AD. The AD makes your autohits and the passive of "Death sentence" do more damage. In fact you do the most damage with your the passive of "Death sentence" i also bought some attack speed.
In this guide i didn´t ad any items with AP because i think you can gain enough AP with . It´s the same with armor. The only item with armor i would buy are . I would buy them i you have to lane against heavy ad champions like "Jayce". If you have problems in early game you can also buy 2x before you go on with .

If Thresh has fullbuild and collected 150 souls his stats will look like this.....

-4004 HP
-131 MG
-136 Armor

-118 Ap
-298 AD
-0.98 Hits per second

- Death sentence deals 259 damage
- Dark Passage shields with 267
- Flay deals 272 damage
- the box deals 668 damage

Now the interesting part the passive of Death sentence does 788 damage (if full charged) .....and all the following autohits deal 490 per hit.
Another positive thing is that Thresh can almost all the time he is in a fight focus the right champion because of his range. Also it´s hard 2 buy defensive items against him because he deals hybrid damage.

(I ignored enemy MG and Armor in this text)

Your role in the team will be to do some damage with your autohits and place your spells right for heavy CC.

Why this Masteries ?

I use this 14/16/0 masteries on Thresh because the points in offense gives him lots of extra. I put 1 point in
and 1 point in
because you will do hybrid damage like Jax. The 16 points in defense make you more tanky and gives you the ability to farm over long term without going back to base.

Summoner Spells

I would normally take and like almost everyone does.

If you already know in championselection you will have problems dominating your lane and you will have to go back to base often it´s better to pick so you don´t miss to much farm and souls from .

Spells

"Damnation" is Thresh passive. It allows him 2 pick up greens balls which summon out of killed minions and champions. Thresh gains Armor and AP for every green ball he picks up. If you farm many balls you will have enough armor without even buying any item with armor.

"Death sentence" is the 1st spell you max. The reason is not the damage output you have while using it. You max the skill first because of the passive. It allows you to do massive damage with your autohits.
Also you can use this spell for pulling enemy towards you or moving to them. This makes it easy 2 escape ganks.

"Dark passage" is the 3rd skill you max. This spell protects you or members of your team from incoming damage and allows them 2 travel towards you by clicking the lamp you placed.
this spell is very useful. It can help your jungle to gank your lane or team members 2 get out of bad situations without using flash.#

If you build Thresh like i did in this guide you use "Flay" only for slowing down enemy or pushing them into you ultimate but i still max it 2nd for the little extra damage it does. Also the slow is very nice.

The Ultimate is very powerful. It does tons of damage and slows enemies down. If you use your ultimate after using "Death sentence" your enemy can only escape with flash. Using you ultimate while ganks you have almost a 100% chance to kill your enemy in toplane.
Combined with the ultimate from "Miss Fortune" or comparable spells "the box" gets even more powerful.

Farming phase

If you don´t want to suck with Thresh it´s important to farm well and pick up the little green balls which summon because of .

With Thresh it´s realy easy to dominate your lane. If you play against a melee champion your range autohits can deal damage to the enemy all the time without getting hit. While farming phase only use your spells if you can pick up a kill or to escape from bad situations.

Pros / Cons

PROS

- hard 2 gank
- easy to farm
- gains armor/ap with his passive so he doesn´t need ap/armor items
- strong ult with huge cc
- strong early and awesome lategame

CONS

- slow
- spells almost only used for cc (only the passive of "Deathsentence" and "The Box" do dmg)
- skin sucks (in my opinions :P )
- requires good farm to win lane
