Introduction
Hello Guys!
I am cataah a main support player in EUW. My main champs are Thresh, Sona and Taric, and i have 80% wins with all of them. Support isnt just an unuseful role. Supports are the main factor of winning the botlane and are a main part of a good team. Always give your best!
In this Guide i will tell you how to play Thresh as a Support, and i hope you can improve your skills!
Thresh is the most awesome support in League of Legends, with his Q>E combo he catches and slows everything what is in his path. Done right, Thresh can be an excellent champion, because he can disable and cc many enemies at once.
Runes
- Greater Quintessence of Attack Damage: To increase your Attack Damage used for the passive of Flay!
- Greater Mark of Attack Damage: Try to poke the enemy ADC as much as you can!
- Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist: Stop beeing squishy for AP champs!
- Greater Seal of Armor: Armor needed for Laning Phase and Teamfights!
Pros / Cons
Summoner Spells
Flash: It is always usefull to escape or to secure Kills. Flash & Death Sentence is also a very nice combo to start a Teamfight, what you can see in my Video. |
Ignite: If you have to play vs Soraka, Taric or other champs which massively heal the enemy ADC, be sure to pick it. It loweres the healing a lot. |
Exhaust: I you play vs Champs like Jinx, Sivir or Vayne, which are dealing huge DMG be sure to pick it, and to lower their damage. |
Ability Explanation
-
Damnation: Damnation is a passive ability that causes enemy units to leave their souls behind when they die near Thresh. Regular minions and neutral monsters will sometimes leave a soul when they die. Enemy champions as well as large minions (siege minion or super minion) and large monsters will always leave a soul when they die. Thresh can pick up these souls by walking near them, or tossing his lantern to them. Each soul gathered increases Thresh's armor, ability power, and the damage of Flay's passive.
-
Death Sentence (Q): When activated, Death Sentence is a collision linear skillshot that deals magic damage to the first enemy unit it hits, stunning it for 1.5 seconds. During this time, the target is pulled a short distance towards Thresh twice, and Thresh may reactivate Death Sentence to dash towards the affected unit.
-
Dark Passage (W): Dark Passage is a ground targeted area of effect ability that places Thresh's lantern at the target location. Allied champions inside the area of effect gain an absorption shield that absorbs incoming damage for up to 6 seconds. Allied champions may only benefit from the shield once per cast. Additionally, allied champions can right-click on the lantern to grab it and dash toward Thresh.
-
Flay (E): Flay passively causes Thresh's autoattacks to deal bonus magic damage equal to the number of gathered souls from Damnation plus a scaling percentage of his attack damage. The attack damage ratio increases over time while Thresh is not attacking but the soul based damage is applied to every autoattack.
- The Box (R): The Box is a point blank ability that creates 5 stationary walls in a small area around Thresh that last up to 5 seconds. Enemy champions that walk through a wall take magic damage and are slowed for 2 seconds, but break the wall. After the first wall is broken, all remaining walls deal half the original damage when walked through and slow for 1 second.

Talisman of Ascension | Talisman of Ascension's movement speed boost is especially useful for the advantage it provides a team when initiating or exiting a teamfight. Being near a minion death without granting the killing blow it grants 4 gold. |
Holds 5 Ward charges and refills upon visiting the shop. Only 3 can be placed at the same time. |
+45 movement speed. Increases to +105 movement speed when out of combat for 5 seconds. |

Ezreal and Thresh work very well together. A nice combo because of the high mobility. Try to poke your enemies and outzone them, so you have an early advantage. |
Ashe and Thresh are a great combo. The amount of cc is too high, and nearly no one can handle this combo quite well. Easy laning Phase when played right. |
Corki and Thresh is a combo with high mobility. Corki is a great ADC who can deal huge damage in a short time. Try to land your Death Sentence on the enemies to let corki play out his full potencial, and cc them as much as you can. |
Graves and Thresh is also a good combo. Graves has massive burst damage, and also great mobility with his Quickdraw. Try to poke them until they have low HP, then be sure to land your Death Sentence for a kill. |
One of the greatest combos with Thresh is to play with Vayne. You will eat your opponents with CC. In most cases, they will have no chance to win against you, because you knock out their ADC completely. |
I personally love to play with Sivir, because she can block incoming spells. Land your Death Sentence and in combination with Boomerang Blade you can deal massive damage in one combo. |
Jinx is a great ADC on your side. Burst Damage with Zap! and cc with her Flame Chompers!. If she lands her Flame Chompers! try to land a Death Sentence and cc them as much as you can. Personally i think Thresh and Jinx work well together. |
If you want to have it easy at the bottom lane, Caitlyn is a great choice. She deals massive damage and has cc with her Yordle Snap Trap. If the enemies are under cc effect, land your Death Sentence and deal as much damage as you can. |
Matchup
When you have to play vs Leona you have to play very safe and you always have to protect your adc from stuns. Try to disable the enemy ADC when your ADC is stunned. |
Taric wont be very hard. Try to pick Ignite to disable his healing. |
Sona is a nice champ to play against, she doesn't have much cc until level 6 and is often very squishy. It's not very difficult. If you are able to outzone them, be sure to do that. |
Janna is not a really hard enemy support. Only her shield can be really annoying. Pick Exhaust to lower the enemy adc's strenght for the period the shield is active. |
Lulu is very annoying, her Whimsy can destroy your combos. Try to play safe, or outzone them before level 6, to get ahead, else you wont have a good time. |
One of the most difficult to play against support is Annie. Annie has CC, Burst and can knock out your ADC for seconds. Play safe and be sure to pick Exhaust! |
