If you miss a hook he can punish you. Try to never hook him and be careful about taking your hook back to the adc. A good alistar will knock you back towards their tower or jg if you get out of position or in range of flash q.
Introduction/About me
This is my 2nd guide for thresh, seeing that the first one is a bit outdated and a lot has changed. I hope this answers all of your questions about thresh in the current patch.
Thresh works best as someone who can engage on the enemy team or to peel an important ally such as an adc, mid, top, or jungler. Thresh is a very skill reliant champion that will make climbing easier. If you have ever been in low elo, you will find that there are games where someone on the enemy team is fed. The best way to beat people who are fed is cc and thresh has a good amount of cc.
Second, the next major change are the new items. Knight's Vow and Redemption are both support items that are very strong in the current meta.
Knight's Vow- +400 health,+100% Base Health Regen, and +20 armor.
Passive: If your Partner is nearby, heal for 12% of the damage your Partner deals to champions and redirect 12% of the damage your Partner takes from champions (after reductions) to you as true damage.
Passive:If your Partner is nearby, gain 40 armor, and 15% bonus movement speed while moving toward them.
This item is pretty much a better zekes imo. If your ally does damage, you get healed. If they take damage, you absorb 12% of that damage.
Redemption- +400 health, +75% base mana regen, +75% base health regen, +10% cdr
Passive:+10% bonus healing and shielding power.
Active:Target an area within 5500 range. After 2.5 second, call down a beam of light to heal allies for 150 - 490 (based on target's level), deals 10% of maximum health true damage to enemy champions and 250 true damage to minions (120 second cooldown). Can be used while dead.
This effect is halved if the target has been affected by another Redemption recently.
Redemption is an item that allows you to heal your entire team in the middle of the fight. This is a great item for the price it is. It will probably get nerfed soon.
I prefer as of currently, ignite over exh. You might ask why? It is because of the kill pressure ignite gives in lane. If you ignite someone they have reduced healing. This means it is good in lanes with soraka, nami, sona and every adc usually takes heal.
When I would take exh: If I had to take exh, it would be because I don't think we will win laning phase or also if we have multiple ignites already on the team. People such as riven top or shaco jungle will take ignite occasionally and I prefer not to have too many on a team. If they have more than one assassin on a team I would also take exhaust to help me peel my adc.
Thresh and vayne work very well together. Vayne is a strong adc that requires good positioning and thresh's lantern allows for vayne to fix her positioning if she needs it. Vayne also has a very strong level 2 and 3 which is where thresh has high kill pressure in lane. At level 2, thresh can land a hook and flay with vayne there autoing and it will result in a kill or burned summoner spell. Vayne's condemn is also very strong with thresh because using hook and flay he can position the adc or support he hooked into the wall for a free stun.
I duo with a vayne main often named Steazyy, who reached Plat 5 this season. He has 450k Mastery Points with Vayne.
#2 Draven
Draven is strong, if not the strongest adc at level one and will always be able to do damage. Draven's passive requires kills and a thresh lane will allow him to cash in his passive for free gold. This lane is all about getting ahead and staying ahead. Draven is a fairly immobile adc and with thresh's lantern he is relatively safe for most situations. Draven can fight with thresh even if he is far behind because Draven has a very high base ad stat. I would suggest taking ignite most of the time.
One of my duo partners is also invazn604, a Plat 3 draven main. He has 1.8 Million Mastery Points on Draven which makes him the #1 most played Draven in NA and 2nd Worldwide.
#3 Jhin
Jhin is a very immoble adc who's kit allows for very easy picks. His w will root a champion that has been hit by an allies ability or auto attack. This allows for a good combo with thresh. This should be how the pick works. Either thresh flays or hooks into a jhin w and then if they flash thresh should be able to use flay or hook (the opposite of the one he just used) to finish the kill.
