Introduction

I play alot of LoL, and haven't seen anyone play Ryze quite like this. This is my personal build and it works very well for me. Try it out and comment/vote if you like it or leave constructive feedback if you don't.

Runes

Marks - should always be used for AP champs

Seals - Greater Seal of Knowledge. I use these runes because you will end up doing insane burst mid and late game.
You could also go with Greater Seal of Mana if you want a stronger early game.

Glyphs - Glyph of Knowledge. Just like the Seals, I use these for mid and late game.
You could also go with Greater Glyph of Mana for strong early game.

Quintessences - Greater Quintessence of Knowledge. I like these because I love doing burst mid game.
You could also go with Greater Quintessence of Health for early game or Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed which is good for harassing early if you're like me and like to wait on getting Sorcerer's Shoes.

Masteries

I go into the Offense tree and take for obvious reasons and then go into Utility. I feel is a must and I use fillers to get . stacks with your ultimate, which I think is OP when you have your late game.

Items

and 2 for easy last hitting and harass. This is ALWAYS what you want to start with as Ryze.

Once you get enough gold for I would get that right away for fast mana gaining. You will have this item for a while before you finish .

Next I go for for easy and constant harass with your . If you have a small amount of gold left when buying this you could get potions or wards if you need them.

Get as soon as you can and you'll soon notice a huge change in your HP and mana.

should be right before OR after the depending on how much gold you're going back with.

I get next for the extra stats and also builds into .

Next I normally finish my because this late I have about 4k+ mana but you could also go for if you notice your health dropping a lot.

for team fights if you're getting shut down by a carry. If you seem to be getting focused then I would go with first.

Skill Sequence

Passive -
This is amazing on Ryze because of the low CD on your Overload. You can cast Q-W-E-Q instantly without waiting for the Overload cooldown because of this.

Q -
Your bread and butter. You'll be using this spell pretty much every time its on cooldown.

W -
Good damage, low cooldown with your passive and snares. You could take this first if you're going bot with an AD carry but I don't think this will happen very often.

E -
Get this at level 4. I wouldn't spam this but when you burst someone down it helps with the Q-W-E-Q combo while reducing the magic resist of your target for the second Overload.

R -
This is your ultimate. Remember Desperate Power and Will of the Ancients and Transmutation will give you 53% spell vamp, which makes you almost unkillable when getting focused while Desperate Power is up. This will also let you stay in lanes by gaining your HP from creeps since Desperate Power has such a low cooldown.

Summoner Spells

It allows easy escape, assault and you can avoid AOE's with it. Its OP.

I love this for kiting and getting out of bad situations.
You could replace this with other spells such as Exhaust and Ignite.

Summary

This is the way I play Ryze and it seems to be working well for me and many others. If you have any feedback I would love to hear it. Goodluck and I hope this guide helps you out. This is my first guide, if you like it please let me know and I will be making more :)
