Introduction
For top lane, I usually take the Stormraider's keystone for chasing my opponent down after doing a combo. After the Rune Prison duration runs out, you will have the Stormraider's movement speed and you can continue to poke down the opposition. Thunderlord's is also a good choice for Ryze because an simple E W Q will be a free proc, allowing you to usually always out trade in lane when Thunderlord's is up.
For Runes I generally go Magic Pen Marks, AP Quints, Armour Seals and MR Glyphs in the mid lane. I tend to aim for having 45% cdr as soon as possible, and I usually achieve this by getting ionian boots directly after roa, before getting a morellonomicon and a zhonya's/abyssal afterwards (and then finally getting my archangel's). With this I can spam my abilities as much as possible, and use my ult to get around the map a lot more. For Top Lane Runes, I generally go Magic Pen Marks, AP Quints, Armour Seals and 6 MR Glyphs and 3 Scaling CDR Glyphs. I do this because I won't usually be the one who will dish out a majority of the damage, but I will steadily end up getting 40% CDR combined with 5 points in intelligence. I also tend to get the cdr as early as possible if I feel I must carry a game, and I achieve this by getting a frozen heart directly after tier 2 boots and a zhonya's/abyssal. For top lane, I may also sometimes use my mid lane runes (mr glyphs instead of scaling cdr glyphs), but if I do, I may usually take Tabi's or Ionian boots, and not Merc's.
Now generally, I max q by 11 instead of 12 because I prefer getting 6 points in my q before upgrading my ult to level 2. I don't use my ult as much early, as this is mainly a late game ability for solid pushing. I get Q first for early poking in lane, and then when I hit level 2 I get my e for the E Q poke in lane, and then getting my W at level three. I then max Q first, then I max my R, then E, then W.
For Summoner's Mid Lane, I generally take Ignite and Flash. I take ignite because I play quite aggressive early, poking my laner down to 75 hp with my aa's and q's, and then once I hit level three, I E W Q my laner (adding an extra E Q if possible), before igniting them. I take flash because as a mid laner, there are many possible ways for someone to gank you, and I need to be able to quickly get out of a sticky situation. For top lane, I generally take Teleport and Ghost. I take teleport because as a top laner, I am too far from the the bottom half of the map, and I feel that teleport will allow me to join teamfights quicker, and in the laning phase, teleport is great for getting back to lane fast without losing that much exp. I take ghost instead of flash because with stormraider's, I will be able to chase someone down and tower dive someone without the fear of dying, as I will take less tower shots with ghost activated, rather than walking away.
The art of the Zhonya Ult. This is probably one of the most satisfying things to do on ryze (other than taking out a whole wave with E Q). If I am in a sticky situation (being ganked, being in a dangerous teamfight), i can always depend on this trick to get me out of there. All you have to do is Ult into a safe spot, and then zhonya on top of the ult warp and the warp will take you right out of there. This trick will allow you to have a guaranteed escape, as you cannot be crowd controlled in stasis.
