Hi, my name is Glogtrot, and I am a Gold Top lane main that likes to play Ekko top ever since release, but no guides have been made in my opinion, so here is mine.
Ekko can really be a bully, but be conservative with your mana. Go for the good old poke style with a E into a Q when your in their face to get that passive proc off, then back off. Just wittle them down till they are low, then use you W for a kill set up with your Jungler or solo. Use you W from the safety of a bush or behind the wall to make it harder for them to predict the engagement, then go for that free damage. If you can set it up so you ghost will walk over where you go for the stun so you can ult for "Tons of Damage".
Team Fight/Late game
By now you damage will be absurd and your ability to destroy a squishy will be insane. You job will be to set up a good stun. If you get a 5 man stun, it doesn't matter most of the time if you get bursted right after getting the ADC or Mid, you have won the fight if your team is competent, just like an Ammumu ult. Use coordination as much as you can with your team and you can set up some serious wombo. W for stun, use the E to close the gap if you need, the Q auto on a squishy if they are stunned, then wait for the ult ghost to walk up if you can and ult them scrublord! You will scale really hard, be confident in your damage and go deep with discretion.
I take the Armor yellows and the MR blues in general to survive early, but if they have no AP then I would switch for Magic Pen blues. AP Quintessences for obvious reasons and the scaling CDR blues for 40% CDR at 18.
Self explanatory I believe. only 2 notes, I don't take Archmage cause I feel it isn't all that useful till late game and would rather put it into Dangerous Game for the health after a close kill. that has save me so many time for that last turret shot or minion autos.
Go for the Flask and 3x pots for most lanes. Build the Catalyst for the sustain and finish Aoa as soon as possible, next get boots and UPGRADE YOUR FROLICKING TRINKET! (AND USE IT!) next get a Nashor's Tooth. This item is really great to add sustained damage to his burst kit and proc that all important passive. Next get that Sheen into a Lichbane. After that go for your Will. But why you ask? Well, not only will it give you spell vamp for sustain in the Team Fight Mid game but the CDR should put you close to 40%, which really shines on Ekko. The Late game pick is situational, make a good choice based on what the other team has, then keep their dreams just dreams...
Ekko is not the best ever top, but he is Hella fun, and that is why we play right? Hope you have as much luck as I have, GL & HF! Go see how many time you can Rekko someone's day and do what Rito designed him to do...
