Introduction

Welcome to my Tryndamere guide for soloing the top lane :) This is my first guide so please help me by commenting and rating my guide! If you have any more questions I don't cover in this guide you can message me and i will answer. Originally made in season 2 and now being updated for season 4. STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION!

Overview of Items

Starting Items


So every game i play with Tryndamere i ALWAYS start with Boots and pick up three much needed Health Potion .

In the Lane


So in your lane if your last hitting minions and building your rage up you should be getting money fast. And even better if you get a quick kill you can go back and pick up your Cloth Armor so you can get that extra protection. But if your lane has been back and forth i usually wait till i reach 1000 so i can pick up my Madred's Razors and start doing more damage unless you managed enough money to get Wriggle's Lantern so you can have life steal and damage. I pick Wriggle's Lantern over 2 doran's blades because since your gonna be solo top your gonna need eyes against ganks so that ward that Wriggle's Lanternsupplies is extremely helpful for preventing ganks on you.

Your Main Items


So at this point you should be reaching the mid game mark and you have already picked up your Berserker's Greaves and your Phantom Dancer. So at this point you should be taking advantage of your lifesteal and your attack speed and try to steal your enemy's jungle whenever possible for that extra gold and experience. This will help you build your Infinity Edge. It doesn't really matter what items you start off with when trying to get your Infinity Edge but i personally get whatever i have money for.

Late Game Items


So now your reaching the end of the game and everything you do can really effect the result of your match so you need to be careful and work with your team and die as little as possible so make sure you take adavantage of using Undying Rage and using Spinning Slash to escape (hopefully through a wall for best escape) and finally using Bloodlust to gain some health back. But you want to pick up Bloodthirster for extra lifesteal and high damage. Okay so this part really depends on how the games going and who your going against. If your going against some players and they manage to somehow always squeeze out of team fights alive you can pick up your Frozen Mallet so you can still dish out damage while slowing the enemy so either you or your team can finish them off. But if your going against a more tankier team you should go ahead and get the Last Whisper so you get that armor penetration that is much needed to penetrate their armor and still do damage. I found this setup to be the Most effective build for me and it surely shows in the game.

BTW these items are not set in stone, but i found that this build has pretty much worked form every game ^.^

Pros / Cons

Pros

  • Can deal alot of damage
  • Can easily chase down champs and escape champs if needed
  • Fury greatly increases your chances for critical hits w/o items
  • Can slow and decrease enemy's damage allowing teammates and yourself to survive and get kills in team fights
  • Has an EXTREMELY powerful ult if used correctly

Cons

  • Can easily be harrassed by a good ranged champion
  • Can be hard to use ult if enemy team has alot of burst damage

Summoner Spells


Exhaust slows movement speed by 40% and reduces auto/basic attack damage by 70% and ability/item damage by 35% for 2.5 seconds.

I find this spell very much needed for Tryndamere. This spell allows you to significantly slow a target so they can't escape allowing you or your team can beat on them during the duration which is SUPER helpful :)


Ignite Ignites an enemy unit, dealing 50 plus 20 x level true damage over time to a single target and reduces the health regeneration and the healing effects received by 50%.

I always have this spell equipped when i have Exhaust so i pretty much have a stream of constant damage flowing into the enemy champ picking up easy early game kills and reducing healing in late games. The early kills definitely help Tryndamere towards late game plus helps get you to level 6 first! Happy lane Happy game.

i haven't really experimented any other spells but i found Flash can be very useful considering the latest nerf on Spinning Slash but that's up to you

Abilities and Techniques

Battle Fury



I find it is a MUST to have either close or full fury at all times just because it does SOO much extra damage that it is pretty much necessary to have at all times. A skilled Tryndamere rarely should every use his fury towards Bloodlust unless absolutely needed too. When you have max fury you'll find that its much easier to maintain your lane and put that fear into your enemys which is always a plus.

Bloodlust



When using this skill it is key to use it at the right times because of the cooldown it CANT be spammed. If you don't need it don't use it, simple as that. One time that is always is a must time to use it is if you use Undying Rage and are escaping then you shud use it at the last second of your Undying Rage

Mocking Shout



This ability is GREAT for chasing down champions and reducing their damage output on you or teammates. I also use it as a safety ability because you can go near bushes and use it to detect if an enemy is hiding inside it for an ambush. very useful ability ^.^

Spinning Slash



This ability really isn't a way to deal damage (thus the reason its leveled last) but more of a way to catch up to a enemy champion or to escape ^.^ This ability is like a flash because you can go through walls and use it to escape.

Undying Rage



When using this ability you have to use it at the right time because if you stall it can mean death for you and if you do it to early then by the time they get your health down it was useless to use it. so be smart when using it! Sometimes it can be an exception to use it early because you just might need that extra fury to get the kill or whatever your doing.

Ok so my reasoning behind my runes are pretty simple...

Greater Mark of Critical Chance


Tryndamere greatly requires his critical hits so that's why i found it completely necessary to have runes to add to that critical hit chance. Giving him that edge over other carries, thus winning the game for you.

Greater Seal of Armor


I choose armor runes for tryndamere not to make him tanky, more for the early game when you usually would take a lot of minion damage or from an enemy champion. This added armor decreases some of the damage taken and helps you sustain your lane more without having to go constantly back buying health potions.

Greater Glyph of Cooldown Reduction


Probably pretty controversial depending on how you play tryndamere but i find that cool down reduction runes are very handy. Plus as i said earlier since we wont be packing flash we rely on Spinning Slash to work as our ghetto flash so we need that to be available to us so we may chase or escape. You might argue that you don't need the runes for that because whenever you critical hit, Spinning Slash instantly reduces the cool down by 2. Well i would like to see you critical hit an enemy your running away from while you probably used all your fury leaving no room for a critical hit in that battle from you. Same goes to if you do have all your fury but your chasing down Master Yi and he uses Highlander and you gotta chase his *** down but your waiting for your Spinning Slash too cool down while he escapes. So that's why i choose cool down reductions runes.

Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed


I have these runes just for that extra speed to help in certain situations. Helps in the situation above ^.

Ability Sequence

So my reasoning behind my ability sequence is that you need your Spinning Slash first because it helps escape early games and just helps you farm and ect.

Bloodlust needs to be maxed out first because without it maxed it doesn't do **** lol That's why you need it maxed first.

Mocking Shout is maxed second because it helps you stay alive and taunt enemies without necessarily damaging them but making them not want to dive you right away. Because it also plays a big part in team fights it needs to be at its best to effectively help.

Spinning Slash doesn't need to be maxed right off the back because it's not meant for damage like i said earlier, its our ghetto flash that happens to do damage to anyone in our way. That's why we don't need it to be maxed.

Farming

If your soloing top lanethen you should ALWAYS last hit minions so you get lots of gold <3 haha but if you aren't good at it get better and practice because the better you are at farming the better you will be late game when you have your full build and people are still trying to farm. Then your able to go and gank people that split off and try to farm minions. So the better you farm the better you'll be :) but sometimes you'll go against a Kennen or someone who keeps you pushed back from the minions not allowing you to farm:'( in that case you'll have to tough it out and just hope you can get good ganks from your jungle to help kill him so it makes up for all the gold you've been missing out on. But once your level 6 you can effectively kill ALMOST every champion with the right skills used at theperfect times. ALWAYS take advantage of your Undying Rage, that literally is your god mode and used wisely you should rarely ever die. So try to master all his skills fast and you'll be unstoppable. BUT DON'T BE COCKY! iv'e played games where i was cocky and gave away kills to the opposing team just because i wanted a kill, unless its a 2-1 trade out its not really worth it. But that's not always the case and maybe you just needed to shutdown someone, its all judgement.

Who to be careful around

Laning against Kennen and Irelia can be difficult so try to avoid match ups against them but if you do then just be careful. Other champs to be a little wary of are Garen, Gangplank, Lee Sin, and Pantheon. Good luck in your lane and hopefully you found this guide helpful! :)
