First build, hope its helpful.

To start out, you should get alpha strike. It helps farm minions a ton with the bonus damage and you can also harass with it if you target a minion near, but not too close, to an enemy champion.

With vampiric scepter you can stay in a lane much longer, but you have to watch your mana because it will run low if you are using alpha strike a lot. Build this into executioner's calling for the critical bonus.

Continue leveling and get several levels of wuju style, it is helpful with life steal for obvious reasons.

Build ninja tabi next, the dodge is very helpful when dealing with minions, which can actually be dangerous if they build up and you're still at a low level. The move speed is respectable, but it will increase later.

Highlander is very important for kills. Just pop that and wuju style, and stay away from turrets, and you should have yourself multiple kills at this point, unless you're laning against two ranged or very cautious opponents.

Build zeal and then continue building that into phantom dancer. The crit is great, which also helps your life steal, as it doubles your damage output at this point for 54% of the time. Not bad. The dodge works like the ninja tabi, attack speed speaks for itself.

At this point, you probably have some levels of meditate. This ability is kinda useless if you have life steal, at least for the heal, but when facing an enemy karthus, it helps a HUGE amount. The bonus magic resist can mean the difference between feeding his requiem and staying alive.

Last whisper increases damage output a lot. 40% armor penetration is an astonishingly large amount, making Yi basically rape even the most heavily armored champions at this point. Attack speed is good too.

At this point, you have a choice for item build. You can either get the bilgewater cutlass and build that into a hextech gunblade, or you can go with some magic resist and build banshee's veil. The gunblade works very well if you find yourself low on health and need that extra bit of life steal, and can also help with 1v1 against someone like warwick, as you'll actually survive with the damage output and life steal combined. Banshee's veil is for those matches where you keep getting major magic damage, and the 30 second block spell is very useful.

Just remember that at the beginning, you CANNOT overextend yourself. If you die more than 3 times without getting a kill, you have failed, and it is very unlikely that you will see results. Once you get to about level 15, you should be pretty well off, with some major damage and critical hit output. I've personally seen triple kills behind enemy turrets with this build, the life steal saving my *** many times. Overall, just remember that Yi is squishy, and can't survive early on without the life steal.
