Twisted Fate Build
Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
Threats to Twisted Fate with this build
|Aurelion Sol||I feel you are heavily favoured here, walk in between his orbs and you win any trade really, early boots can help you win this lane faster and easer (HIS ORBS STOP WHEN STUNNED.. Hello Gold Card is that you?)|
|Taliyah||Pretty easy to dodge all of Tahliyah's abilities, greatly favours you.|
Welcome To My Twisted Fate guide, I hope this helps you learn how to play Twisted Fate
Twisted Fate is my main champion, I have Mastery 7 167324 Mastery Points as of making this guide, I have played well over 200 games of Twisted Fate and feel like I know his mechanics and his kit well, I have mained Twisted Fate since 2014.
Pros / Cons
High Burst Damage (If using his abilities to their full potential)
High Map Presence once level 6
Amazing Bot Lane ganks
Fun to play
Self mana Sustain
Vulnerable to Assassins
Dying Pre-six lowers map presence at 6
No Escape or Gap closer
Ult can be interrupted if not used in a smart position causing more losses than gains in game
Can mistime W and pick blue over gold card when ulting
I take movement speed quints to help with more mobility running back to lane, ganking a lane without ult (sometimes you dont have to burn it), getting around cc skill shots, hopefully get away from ganks that could lose you your lane.
Magic Pen Reds is good to take in my honest opinion since I prefer taking CDR Boots and If I get it at all, Void Staff is the last Item I obtain in my build, If its not required sooner in the game.
Scaling Health Yellows gives you a little bit more beefy stats coming into late game, it can help you survive in situations
Scaling Ability power blues gives us more ap while leveling up which is amazing and helps you gain a little more in the late game.
Why I Don't take Armour Runes, The Health runes make you beefy enough in my opinion and you rush zhonyas with lich bane as your two Core Items which gives you the armour that you need.
Why I Don't take MR Runes, never really found myself in lane long enough that they were absolutely essential for me to have, but that is my personal preference.
I Feel The masteries are pretty standard masteries for an ap mid laner, i guess with slight changes
ALWAYS TAKE THUNDERLORDS!
Lich Bane and Zhonyas are the most essential part of Twisted Fate's itemisation everything else is pretty much what ever you want, I prefer CDR boots over MPen, it allows for more cards to be thrown. Switch to Sweeping as soon as you can, this allows you to gain control of vision in mid lane and allow for better roaming potential, Early pink wards are also key to keeping vision control
Rabadon's, Luden's, Void staff Pretty standard AP items to buff up your stats, don't always just fall back on these
Abyssal, RoA, Rapid Fire Cannon. RFC? watafaq, it sounds weird but longer range gold cards can help against champions who have longer range or jump around *LB* Depending on your match up it might be beneficial for you to get a rod or abyssal, they give more tank stats depending on what you need, more health or MR.
Take W First, Easy to farm with
Then Take E, becomes even more easier to farm with
Then max Q
Taking R whenever possible
With Twisted Fate, things in the first few levels arent all to hectic versing any laner in my opinion, So I found taking W first allows for easy farming, Blue care all of the minions when they are low enough, remember you can also AA these minions to farm without a blue card, At level 2 the stacked deck allows for even easier farming, I find it easier if I use my stacked deck at a different time to my W, this allows you to have a higher chance to get atleast 2/6 minions out of the wave, Q to farm at a safe distance if required i.e. being zoned. At higher levels the best way to push a wave W red card the middle melee minion while they are still in a line and Q through the wave, It is the fastest way for Twisted Fate to push and farm a wave.
While laning you want to try not die Pre-six and if you cant get a kill in mid once you hit 6 look bot for an ult gank, try Combo this with your jungler and 4 man Gank bot lane, to hopefully ensure kills. Keep Vision control up so the enemy laner doesnt know where you are going so it makes it harder for him to follow. Pink wards and Early Sweeping lens is helpful here.
Harass your lane opponent with Blue Cards, and Q, Keeping a constant Blue Card Q poke ensures that the opponent will not be having a fun time against you, Zone Opponent from Farm with Gold card, specifically the Cannon minions.
While your team is grouped together you can have two choices
Play as a 5 and team fight constantly (which isnt optimal for TF)
Or Split Push and ult in when a fight breaks out
Destiny (R) Is an amazing tool that allows Twisted Fate to be away from his team but still have presence in team fights, SO PUSH THOSE TOWERS.
In Team Fights Twisted Fate plays a lot like an ADC, so your object is to stay in the back line and deal your damage in bursts (As you are an AP Champion) Always auto attack when able, this stacks your deck (E) while fighting and allows for more damage when combo'd with W, in a team fight you never want to use Blue card. Use Red card when they are in a big group and you want some nice aoe slow damage. Gold card is best for catching out solo targets most of the time you want to combo Gold Card With Flash or your Ult.
The best trick to learn for playing the game with Twisted Fate is called the Misaya
Ult -> Gold Card -> Target a Carry -> Zhonyas.
Great Split Pusher due to ult
Some decent Burst
Dont Die Pre Six otherwise you gonna suck
Farm is pretty easy with Twisted Fate
Assassins are your worst enemy
Bot lane is like a nice delicious meal when 6
