Choose Champion Build:

  • LoL Champion: Udyr
  • LoL Champion: Udyr

Introduction

DO NOT FOLLOW THIS BUILD UNLESS YOU HAVE A STUN LANING WITH YOU

Udyr is a great champ with some great skills, the only problem with this is he has ABSOLUTELY NO RANGE. Usually you will get owned in the lane but with an effective stun with you in lane this problem is effectively solved.[/b]

[/u]

there are two alternate build in this guide, there are two udyrs pictures at the top, one is an offtank and one is an ad carry.

Lane Partners

If you want to play Udyr in lane then you will have to be in lane with one of these champions:

Sion, Taric, Twisted Fate, Irelia, Pantheon, Veigar, Renekton. try to communicate when they are going to stun the opponent, synergy is very important. a ranged stun is probably better because if you rush in at the same time they will sense a gank. Personally i think Sion is the best to lane with as he has good damage output as well as great stun to ensure the kill.

Pros/Cons

Pros
- Great stun with Blazing Stampede
- Great survivability with Iron Mantle
- Outrageous attack speed early game with Wilding Claw
- Great ganks if you use Flash
- unbeatable speed with Zeal, Blazing Stampede and Boots of Swiftness early-mid game
- Lane longevity with Iron Mantle

Cons
- NO RANGE WHATSOEVER
- no CC apart from Blazing Stampede
- need a stun or else your F'd in the A
- kinda item dependant

Runes

I go for mostly armor pen coz 25 armor pen will just tear your opponent down.
Greater mark of desolation and Greater quintessence of desolation

Flat Health for the early game survivabilty but mainly coz there's nothin else to get... :(
Maybe Greater Seal of replenishment if you want for laning but your call, got lifesteal from turtle if you want.

Greater Glyph of Mana is so you can spam your stances early game, this will help for multiple ganks

Masteries

i go 21/0/9 for the extra DPS. This is required for your role as an offtank. go 15% spell penetration as your spells are SUPER spammable. put the rest in utilty for the xp gain, the regen and the buff bonus.

9/21/0 is a viable idea for udyr but this is usually used for jungling and this doesnt really help him apart from maybe the dodge speed increase.

Play Style

lvl 1 - 6 you should be hiding in the bushes 24/7 and out zoning the enemy, the brush will make your no-range negligible. if you have just got a kill then try to last hit.

1vl 6 - 11 you are looking to keep getting good ganks in your own lane but also floating around the map and getting ganks. try not to go for ganks in other lanes until you have Zeal and Boots of Swiftness. And make sure you have another reasonable dps dealer if they are above half health. also try to get red buff if you are going to gank in another lane

lvl 11 - 18 you want to be going around and ganking as much as possible and getting red buff 24/7

If you are in a duo lane against a solo or something you might want to consider is getting red buff at lvl 4-5 and roaming around for a gank. this will give you and your teammates great map control and the other team will be cautious of running out from behind their turret where they've been cowering from you awesome TIGER STANCE

Role as an Offtank - Offensive Tank

the usual idea of an offtank(took me ages to find out what offtank meant) is to do as much damage as possible to the enemy team (will expand on targets after) as possible, BUT also soaking up a fair bit of damage at the same time. you want to have an relatively even mix of defensive and offensive items to ensure you arent a glass cannon and that you can actually make an impact on fights not just soak up damage.

Team Beefing

let the tank initiate. Sometimes its best to come in the back of the fight and rape a carry quickly and then bail, hit and run tactics work pretty well. your Trinity Force and Boots of Swiftness will help you dive into fights so use this to your advantage. One of my favourite things to do is when theres a team fight (3 or less enemies usually) and the enemy team are over extended i will dive in with my outrages movespeed: force, boots and Blazing Stampede take out a carry really quick and then stun the rest of the enemy team. by now the rest of my team will come in and then it will quickly become a 3/4 v 2 in our favour :).

Items

i went with Dagger first because when you get Wilding Claw first you get a straight up 40% attack speed and the pop on Wilding Claw you should get 55% AS on your first gank in the brush. After that i go for Zeal and then Boots of Swiftness coz speed is a must have for this guy. Then Phage for the survivability and it helps with ganking coz of the passive. Finish these as Trinity Force coz Offtanks are the new METAGAME and this is the no.1 item for Offtanks in the game. Randuin's Omen is the next item because these days armor > Attack damage, start this with a Heart of Gold. Madreds Bloodrazor is next up, this can be swapped in and out depending on the other team, if you dont end up getting this i would recommend getting Black Cleaver. After this finish with Infinity Edge and Bloodthirster for obvious reasons (DAMAGGEEEE!!!)

Frozen Mallet can be a good option if your team is pretty **** and you are getting targeted 24/7, only really use this if your team is losing

Why get Tri-Force you say???

Pros:
-more dps
-can rank tiger to r5 without penalty
-saved item space
-higher move speed
-can use tiger effectively to deal massive damage
-stronger burst

Cons:
-lackluster mid-game
-difficult timeframe to master
-pieces dont offer much
-has to wait for zeal until speed boost is covered
-slower item build
-only partial chance for slow
-expensive

DPS

if there is already a tank and a tanky dps or offtank then you want to go straight dps.

Madreds
for straight dps i go for the same start up until you develop Zeal (already have 3 boots), i turn the zeal into a Phantom Dancer and then from that i got madreds bloodrazor depending on whether the other team are stacking health or not. then i go Infinity Edge then go Black Cleaver and finish with Bloodthirster.

non-madreds
get the dancer etc. then instead of going for madreds go for Infinity Edge then go Black Cleaver, Bloodthirster and then finish with another Phantom Dancer
