Not Updated For Current Season
Udyr-For starters he is one of the most underestimated characters in the game, and if played correctly he will eliminate all doubt of being an inferior champion. Also there are many different ways to play every character this is just the way I play The Animal Spirit.
Ignite-Is a great spell for most characters the reason I choose this for Udyr, over others is for a couple of reasons.
1. It is a hidden damage output
2. It is great to tower dive with
3. It scares people into cleansing
4. Great for First Blood
Ghost-For Udyr is great it gives him some great possibilities.
1. Combined with Bear Stance means you are uncatchable by almost everyone, and guaranteed if they don't have various buffs themselves.
2. An unexpected speed boost that will freak them out until its to late and your already upon them.
3. It allows you to return to your lane quicker, towers under attack, various buffs while in the jungle.
4. Great to catch those trying to escape.
5. Allows easy tower dives.
The reason I go 0-27-3 is for the early game survivability, easier to jungle, the extra dodge boost in defense, and the ghost boost in utility.
For the runes I feel dodge is a great choice combined with his passive he is close to out dodging Jax, for the ability cooldowns the more your able to spam your abilities the more dodge you will have as well as the bonuses you receive from those stances.
The way I play I feel this works out the best. Yes I agree this means he does not have great damage output early on but it also means he wont die, and it will allow easy ganking opportunities with Bear Stance and Turtle Stance to survive the encounter. After level 10 Tiger stance is your main focus this is where Udyr-The Animal Spirit becomes extremely dangerous. As for the ever so popular Phoenix Stance (I don't use it). I leave the Aoe effects to my other teamates and Udyr can Jungle with ease without it.
Now For the Items.... It is always more complicated here
Now I Know in most games one will never end with all of these items but it is a list and a goal for one to reach.
For initial items I pick a Dagger and a health potion. Dagger so we can build it into Malady later and Health Potion for survivability.
After you have been in a lane for awhile (around level 6) you should be looking to head back to finish Malady and part if not all of Ninja Tabi (Depending on if you got first blood or kills)
Madreds BloodRazor is your next item on your list, but with its cost being so high start with getting Madreds Razor. You also should get Zeal when you can afford it
This is getting to be near end game and with the money you have received finish off Phantom Dancer and with enough Money Guardian Angel.
If the game is still going, there will be some beefy tanks running around and the Black Cleaver will be able to knock them down a notch.
The game should never last this long but we all know sometimes they do. If so sell your Ninja Tabi buy all of the Elixirs and re-buy Ninja Tabi.
With Udyr the basic strategy is toggling between Turtle, Bear, Tiger as much as you can. There is however more complex strategy then that. Udyr is like a fourth ninja running in so fast and stunning (with Bear Stance they will be down and out before they know what hit them). Use this to your advantage ask your teammates to call out ganks. Udyr works extremely well when fighting with teammates that also have stuns or slows, by initiating with Bear stance then having your ally hit them with a stun by the time it wears off you can re-switch into Bear Stance stun locking them in place. Be aware of who has cleanse and who doesn't this will be important for who to target. When fighting you must not be afraid you need to be the initiator! Charge in using Bear then immediately switch to Turtle to survive the blows you will receive from the enemies teammates. Follow up with Tiger Stance to land the finishing blow to the wounded enemy your teammates were targeting (If you must Ignite to guarantee).
Now with Udyr you can take down Dragon at level 6, after you come back with Malady go straight for it you can solo it so let your teammates continue working there lane. Make sure to initiate with Bear and continue switching back and forth with Turtle. Now its very important to watch your passive timer after it hits rank three you want to wait to switch stances. When it gets close to timing out go into Bear stance then immediately go into turtle stance, you must then wait again until its close to timing out to switch into Bear. If you do not follow this routine you will run out of mana very fast and might have to retreat from dragon which means you wasted all that time.
I hope those of you looking to play Udyr will receive some vital information on how to play The Animal Spirit. Any comments are welcome and encouraged, I will update as often as possible (This is my first build so it may be a bit rough and I apologize for that)
