UDYR - THE TRUE LEGEND
Udyr is all about speed. He's not a tank, but he can act like one alone. He's not support, but he has many abilities that support him and others. He's a balanced champion, but if used correctly he can be the largest threat in the entire game.
Most people do not realize it, but Udyr's tiger stance is probably the most dangerous weapon in his arsenal. The key to realize is that each stance triggers a different effect temporarily. Because of this, switching stances is essential to combat with Udyr. As you level up your skills. The mana cost goes down. You will never need to build up your mana, but you still need to be careful and aware of its amount. The reason you will not need to worry is because Turtle stance can refill your mana at any time. By the time your high level, refilling your mana will not be hard at all. Bear stance is essential for both hunting down fleeing enemies and fleeing from pursuing enemies. In addition, Bear stance can silence a channeler, stop someone who is in close range quick enough for you to get further away, and it can stop enemies that are pursuing your allies. As a balance, Udyr is everything all in one. He can support, he can kill, and he can tank.
Early on, I use turtle stance to divert harassers attacks. The shield that Turtle puts up can absorb most skill abilities' damage. Use it when you notice them casting a spell, skill, or ability on you. In addition, turtle can absorb ignite fire so keep that in mind. Bear stance is essential for stopping someone in their tracks. It's also a good stance to initiate combat on a targeted enemy. If someone sees someone stunned, they'll jump in right with you. You'll need to switch from bear stance, to tiger stance, to turtle stance, to tiger stance and so on. Keeping in mind if they start fleeing, switch to bear stance. Once they are in flight, you can usually switch just between Bear and Tiger stances, but when initially fighting, turtle and tiger are your best friends. Remember if you leave it in turtle stance you will regenerate both health and mana, after each fight leave turtle on until your filled up on both sides (note: you cannot critical strike with turtle strike).
I prefer movement in item build because movement allows for better microing. If anyone has played RTSs (real time strategies), microing is the act of moving in and out of combat to be most effective. If you can pull back enough to cause the enemy to hesitate, then push back hard, you can do more damage and can coordinate attacks more efficiently. If possible you should always use your speed to grab the weakest enemy (squishiest: such as a mage or ninja champ). Save the tank champions for last (even if you know you can take them quickly - this is a given for any champion). Always try to take out the most supportive champion such as Soraka, Zilean, and mage champs that can stun or otherwise do a lot of damage.
Remember your Bear stance can silence most channeled spells in their tracks (unless it is a channel that is effective until turned off). Tiger stance will look like your doing less damage, but your actually doing the the same damage, just broken down into 3 seperate strikes. The Tiger stance is the best, because the initial strike does x3 damage. So if you have 200 damage, you'll do 600 damage over a few seconds. Watch their health drop. Since you can switch stances back and forth pretty quickly, they will hurt really bad. You will never have to use Pheonix Stance, so don't bother with it.
I go for NINJA TABI first.
Then I build a TWO ZEALS.
I grab a MALADY for the health regen and attack speed.
Save up your gold until you can increase your damage output with a B.F. SWORD.
Get a SHEEN.
After this start turning your items into their builds.
one ZEAL becomes -> TRINITY FORCE
one ZEAL becomes -> PHANTOM DANCER
B.F.SWORD becomes -> BLOODTHIRSTER
Your last item can be anything, but at this point the game should be over if not already.
Possible item choices that I came up with:
FORCE OF NATURE (Movement speed and health regen)
LICHES BANE (MOVEMENT SPEED AND DMG OUTPUT)
SWORD OF OCCULT (Potential MOVEMENT SPEED and potential HUGE DMG OUTPUT).
INFINITY EDGE (EXCELLENT DMG OUTPUT - Watch out Turtle stance cannot do CRIT CHANCE)
