Intro

Welcome to my guide for Aatrox as a Top Lane Bruiser. Aatrox is not a champion you see played very often, and that is why most enemies have no idea what this Avatar of War is capable of doing. With this Updated Build and Guide I hope to make you interested in playing Aatrox and all the awesome things the Darkin Blade can pull off.

Runes

AD Marks to utilise the decent Bonus AD scalings on Aatrox's abilities.
Armour Seals because there is a large amount of Health in the Item build, while armour is somewhat lacking.
Scaling MR Glyphs because there are no real contesters in the Glyph slot (Though flat MR glyphs are fine too when prefered.)
For Quintessences I like Attack speed the most, because again, Aatrox is auto-attack reliant and there are not many real other viable options.

I use a 1% Crit Mark because having 1% to critically strike your foe is exponentially better then having 0.95 extra AD.

Masteries

Warlord's Bloodlust is the single best Keystone mastery on Aatrox with this build. While Fervor of Battle is obviously nice for an autoattacker like Aatrox, the lifesteal on Warlord's will prove to be invaluable in close quarter, allowing for you to pull off some amazing plays.
I go 18/0/12 instead of 18/12/0 because I really like the extra tankiness that comes from the Resolve tree. You can go 18/12/0 but I find myself too squishy and blown up too hard by burst.
You can also go 12/0/18 with Grasp of the Undying as keystone. Turning on Blood Price and hitting your enemy with a third W hit while you have grasp going is insane damage and will likely be 1/5 of your opponents health, if not more. I don't like taking this Mastery because I enjoy Warlord's Bloodlust too much for the all-in potential it brings.

Items

Well, time to talk about items. This will likely be the longest part of this Guide, as there are a lot, and I mean a LOT of viable items for Aatrox.
I will cover the items I like and some items I don't like but other people build.

Guinsoo's Rageblade
The single best item that you should build every single game on Aatrox.

Total Price: 3600
Recipe Price: 875

Guinsoo's Rageblade
50 Ability Power, 35 Attack Damage. Passive: On-hit deals an additional 15 magic damage. UNIQUE Passive: Basic attacks grant +8% Attack Speed, +3 Attack Damage, and +4 Ability Power for 5 seconds (stacks up to 6 times). While you have 6 stacks, gain Guinsoo's Rage.

UNIQUE Passive: Guinsoo's Rage: Every other basic attack triggers on-hit effects an additional time.

With the 6.9 Patch changes, Guinsoos got reworked, again. However, with Devourer gone, the Phantom Hit passive was granted to Guinsoos Rageblade, while removing the AoE passive it had before. The fact that at 6 stacks your W heal (or bonus damage) gets triggered every 2nd attack is huge. Massive. Insane. It would be as if Nasus would gain 5 bonus damage for every Q-stack he gets. It would be as if Vayne could deal 12% of you maximum health in true damage every second attack (Oh, wait, she can now... fk vyne).
Aatrox gains a nice amount of attack speed from his passive, along with a 40% steroid on his ultimate. This combined with the attack speed from the new Rageblade grants Aatrox 50% + 40% + 48% attack speed (at 6 stacks). You gain a large amount of bonus damage with Blood Price every second auto attack and you heal a large amount of health every second attack at full stacks. What happens sometimes is that when you find yourself overextended and two enemies enter your lane: here you were busy farming minions and your Guinsoos is already stacked to 6 attacks. The enemy Katarina throws her dagger, jumps on your and starts ulting, while their Kha'Zix fires a volley and jumps on you as well. You take flight, and smash down on the void-bug and the mercenary, smashing them both high up the ground while the Avatar of War jams his seemingly living weapon into the face insect, fighting elegantly yet deadly. It seems as if the Darkin is immortal, growing stronger and faster with every attack he makes. But his enemies show no remorse, fiercely fighting back. The Demi-god's health slowly drains lower and lower, until he, in the blink of an eye, sucks the essence of his enemies away. With the initiation of Massacre, Aatrox' foes fall quickly, and a message is sent from the enemy team: pusyslayer666 (Jarvan IV) : 'gg aatrox noob champ'

Yeah, this happened to me in a game. It was pretty awesome. Build Rageblade every game.
