Early game / Laning

Hextech revolver is the best early game item on vlad, boosting his natural lane sustainability. 99% of the time I build this item.

I build the CDR boots on vlad for obvious reasons.

You're going to want to use E to farm minions.
Use Q to lasthit minions you can't get with your auto-attacks and to harass the enemy.

DO NOT use your W ability to farm minions. It's for ganks and escapes.

Teamfights

You are a burst AP mage, as such your job should be obvious.

When the fight first initiates drop your ult on as many enemies around, when all the abilities are flying.

Dodge in and out of the fight spamming E when there are as many as possible enemies around
note: effectivly assessing the range of E is crucial
And spamming Q on whoever your team is focusing.

Using W at the correct time can be the difference between dying and getting a penta.

Vlad is not a tank, at least not in the sense that he can stand in a teamfight, be focused and still be effective.
