Introduction

Hello everyone on Mobafire! It is IggyJosh here for his third guide (to date!) and this time it is about Vayne. Vayne is one of, if not the only adc who can also be considered as a ranged duelist due to her extreme dueling potential as well as outplay potential, which only works if you've got those #VayneMechanics :D. She is also, in my opinion, the best adc to spilt-push bottom lane and just farm there because Vayne is so dependent on farm and gold so she can do good in the late game. #VayneMechanics.

Summoner Spells

  • Flash is needed for re positioning or as your 'get out of trouble for free card'. This is the best summoner spell in the game because you can get away easily and you can also outplay with Tumble and Flash to dodge huge skillshots.

  • Barrier is the most used summoner spell for adcs because of how good the shield is. A shield on an adc is very good if you ever get caught or are about to die in a fight you can use it to escape or get a kill.

    Other Choices

  • Sadly, Cleanse is the only good other summoner spell on adcs. This is because if you ever get cc locked, you can just Cleanse and you are fine. Only take Cleanse if their team has alot of cc for use.

I've seen multiple Vayne guides here already saying to max Silver Bolts I don't like maxing Silver Bolts because you need your Tumble for mobility more than anything. Also in lane trades early on, if you can aa then Tumble for aa reset than you can easily win the trade. Also, you can not always get the 3 Silver Bolts proc off in early trades, which is the only reason why you would max Silver Bolts. I personally think it is more preference but I like maxing Tumble first considerably more. You max Condemn last because it uses alot of mana and it is a waste of mana if you use it alot, even at rank 1. The reason for the first three spells is Tumble first for mobility and level 1 trades, then I get Condemn second so if you have a level 2 centric sort of support, like Leona for example, if you can Condemn them into a wall, it will make for a much easier first blood you also want your Silver Bolts level 3 just to sound out you skills and because you want all 3 level one unlike someone, for example, Ezreal. It's also pretty obvious you first focus would be on Final Hour because you of course want to get points in your ult as soon as possible, unless you are playing someone like Jayce.

Now time to explain the skills :D
  • Tumble is one of Vayne's most important skills for early lane trading, harassing enemies, and mobility. It works really well with Final Hour because you become invisible and on a short cooldown, invisibility is really strong right now. KEEP THIS IN MIND, Tumble RESETS YOUR AUTO ATTACK. This is very important information in lane trades, aa then Tumble then aa gives you easy Silver Bolts proc which can chunk their health bar a good amount. Tumble is the main source of you outplay potential, so you can just Tumble to avoid skillshots, juke in to the brushes, Tumble behind them and Condemn them in to a wall, the possibilities are near endless.
  • Silver Bolts is the main thing that cause people to qq over Vayne. % max hp damage is good enough, but it is true damage as well, meaning one of the only counters to Vayne is an attack speed slow. Very good skill in the current health stacking Dr. Mundo meta we have here. This is what makes Vayne such a good tank melter.
  • Condemn is a very good skill that Vayne has. Can potentially allow for you to peel for yourself with the knockback is provides as well as the stun. Also can be used aggressively in lane. If the enemy adc is near a wall and you think you can fight them, then you should Condemn them in to the wall so your support can easily engage on them after.
  • Final Hour this is one of the best ultis for an adc in the game. Alot of movement speed? Check. Attack damage steroid? Check. Invisibility? Check. Final Hour has everything you need for a teamfight. Since you have small range, you need a way to be mobile or else that champ sucks. This is what makes Vayne mobile and hard to find in teamfights. Very good skill once you learn how to use it well and when to use it. I wouldn't recommend popping Final Hour to run away, since the only good thing for running it gives you is the invisibility. You only get the move speed when you are looking at the enemy

Items

Starting Items

Really standard start, Doran's Blade is really the only good start for an adc. Not much to explain here, just that this is the most effective and basic start. Some people like to start Long Sword and 3 Health Potion. Also get the Greater Totem for vision.

First Back

On Vayne you should rush a Blade of the Ruined King, so an early Bilgewater Cutlass is a good start. Also, you should have some leftover money, so if you can, get Boots. If you have even more than that, then I recommend getting Berserker's Greaves for obvious attack speed on Vayne reasons. If you cannot afford your Bilgewater Cutlass, then just get a Vampiric Scepter .

First Rush

On Vayne, Blade of the Ruined King is a must rush for many reasons. One of these reasons is that it synergies really well with her Silver Bolts, because percentage damage on percentage damage is awesome. Another reason is that it lets you really easily duel. The active on Blade of the Ruined King is very good for duels as it does 15% of their maximum health, heals you, speeds you up, and slows them down. All good for dueling. Also, Berserker's Greaves is obvious because you need attack speed.

Mid Game Goals

On Vayne, you like attack speed, like almost all adc's. Phantom Dancer is an important part of your build for the crit chance, move speed, attack speed, and passive. All of the stats Phantom Dancer has a good for you. I would also say that swapping out Phantom Dancer for Statikk Shiv is a good choice. Statikk Shiv is almost the same as Phantom Dancer but it gives less attack speed and crit chance, but increase the move speed and the passive is ALOT better for pushing and combat purposes. I'd recommend getting Phantom Dancer if you have to money for it when you back wanting either of the two items, or just get Statikk Shiv is you don't have enough also Statikk Shiv is a really good item for pushing so if you are being the doublelift of the team, get Statikk Shiv. Last Whisper is a 100% needed item on almost all adc's because armor pen is a really good stat. You can even decide to get Last Whisper before finishing Phantom Dancer or Statikk Shiv, but I'd recommend at least having a Zeal already if you want to do this. The only reason you'd want to rush Last Whisper is if their team is building alot of armor. Also, % armor pen OP!

Late Game Items

On Vayne, Infinity Edge is a needed item because of the damage it gives you. The Infinity Edge and Phantom Dancer / Statikk Shiv combo is something special and has been for a while. You get 55% crit chance and your crits do 250%. All really good on an adc. Another very situational item for use is the Zephyr. It gives you alot of ad, movement speed, cdr, and some sweet tenacity. The main thing about this item is the tenacity and movement speed. Sometimes, people replace their boots with Zephyr, but I personally don't because I think that boot enchants are very good.

Now time for my favorite part of a guide... Explaining all the defensive situational items!!! Ok, so this might be a little long, but bear with me now. You want to take Guardian Angel when you are getting bursted and made fun of because of your positioning. It just gives you a second life which is handy and dandy in an important teamfight. You'd take Mercurial Scimitar on Vayne when their team has alot of cc and for whatever reason, you didn't already have Cleanse. Also get it when the team has some sort of stupid cc where Cleanse can't even save you. You pick up Banshee's Veil when the enemy teams apc is fed and if he hits one key spell, you are just dead, no question. Although the enemy can just pop your Banshee's Veil, it still takes something away from them and gives you needed health and magic reset. Lastly, you'd like to take Randuin's Omen when their ad is fed and you have no peel / the enemy adc is fed and can't be dived because of his godlike peel or just him being doublelift status. Really, I almost never see myself pick up Randuin's Omen, but I do sometimes and I can say it helps alot. Although all of this, you should still normally pick up a Guardian Angel is most situations.

Can Replace BoRK w/

After the community reaction, I realized people wanted me to add Bloodthirster so I did. This item is very situational and you would only get it when you are absolutely pooping on your lane and you don't really have to worry about your early game as much. Bloodthirster path also makes you stronger in the late game, but then again you don't have the Blade of the Ruined King active so you need some superior positioning or peel in fights where they dive on to you.

Early Game

In the early game as Vayne, mostly look to cs and get gold so you can build up to those big items which make Vayne, Vayne. When you aren't doing this, look to poke with the most basic combo Vayne can utilize. This combo is just aa > Tumble for 2 auto attacks very quickly tied together. If you wish to proc your Silver Bolts, then you should so this other combo in trades which is just aa > Tumble > aa / Condemn for a Silver Bolts proc. The choice of either using Condemn or another aa is just if you feel safe with another aa, do another aa, but if you feel you will take alot of damage, then be safe and just Condemn for the Silver Bolts proc. Also, if you are low on mana then just aa. This is because Condemn costs alot of mana.

This is also the point of the game where Vayne gets bullied the most and is the most weak. Vayne has started to fall out of flavor in the season 4 changes because many supports, mainly looking at you, Annie can just flat out 1 v 1 Vayne at most parts of the game because of their damage. These champions can also poke you in lane so you must play passive against them in the early game. I would say more, but I'll cover that in the match-ups section of the guide.

Tips / Tricks

One of the reasons why Vayne is popular is because of her outplay potential in all stages of the game. There are many tips / tricks for Vayne that can just win you fights that you normally wouldn't. Vayne is a very high skill-cap champion.

One of my favorite tricks is if you are having a fight in bot lane near the bottom lane bushes, you can use Final Hour then Tumble out of the bush and then place your Greater Totem in the bush, then get a free Condemn into the wall. This can change tides of fights because you will not be suspected to do that and with the enemy stunned from Condemn you get free damage off.

Another one of my favorite tricks you can do on Vayne is that you can Tumble over the small river wall on purple side near dragon pit. This trick takes alot of practice to do consistantly, but if you do pull it off it can be a life saver or you could get into a team fight quicker. This is the only wall that Vayne can tumble over in the whole entire map, so use it wisely.
