DeusDevoid: I actually think the opposite, though ultimately we might just have to wait and see what happens. Athene's Unholy Grail gives a pretty hefty amount of AP, a good amount of CDR, builds out of Chalice which is a safe mid item, and is the only item besides Abyssal Scepter to give AP and MR.

There are several mages that have 1 situational slot. I think Athene's would make a great item for Lux, personally. I might consider it on Veigar instead of Banshee's Veil, especially since the change to DFG means we're losing CDR and mp5. There's always been something annoying about Banshee's Veil since it gives tank stats but it most useful on carries. Athene's might just be the AP alternative MR item I've been hoping for.

Wonderful guide, thanks for all your work! Just a question, though, why 3 points in Brutal Force and not in Mental Force for ability power?

Matuka: Lol, I love Veigar too. :P Glad you like the guide.

DarkNazgul: Thanks, I'm glad I could help.

Eero: Hope you find him to be worth the price. I certainly did. ^^

TU10: Too be honest, I haven't come across that matchup, but I have an idea of Lulu's capabilities as an AP carry. She's going to give you a tough lane and is capable of either zoning you or pushing you to her tower. I'll add a section for her in the future, thanks for the suggestion.

Ceirnian: This is a nuance in the offensive tree that you'll see on almost every AP mastery page that professional players use. In terms of worth, 3 AD is a lot more valuable than 3 AP. In an average game, an AP carry might get 600 AP and an AD carry might get 250 with both of them spending the same amount of gold on offense. AP quints also give 4.95 AP each while AD quints give only 2.25 AD.

Damage-wise, 3 AP doesn't really make much difference in your nuke. Even with Veigar's strong scalings, the extra AP is only going to give you about 10 damage over your entire nuke. 3 AD is much more useful by comparison as it improves your last-hitting when Baleful Strike is on cooldown and can be used to harass your opponent as well. Early game harass is often just Q-autoattack or auto-Q-auto. Since it's very early game and mids generally don't take armor runes, your autoattacks actually hurt pretty well for a while. 3 AD will let you shave a bit more health off of your opponent when you do this.

But mainly it's for last-hitting.

Fantastic guide. Only a situational question. Last game was during too long, around minute 55, with all your build finished, all consumables and potions available, and with +4000 gold; both team balanced and noone can destroy enemy team completely.

In this case, what i would do? Change sorcers shoes for a RoA? for a Rylay?
Regards.

When the game goes that late, definitely sell your boots for one of the situational boots (usually Merc's are a good pick). Keep farming AP with Baleful Strike and abusing Veigar's excellent late game scaling. It's probably going to come down to Baron, map control, split pushing and which team gets the best engage possible. Blow up the (usually AD) carry at the start of the fight. If you can, pick off one of the squishies before the fight begins, turning it into a 5v4 in favor of your team.

Rarely will you come across games that go really late and are completely evenly matched. If and when that does happen, you're probably just going to have to go with the flow and capitalize on the first mistake the enemy makes.

You shouldn't have to swap out any items besides your boots. Maybe adjust your situational defense item (GA works well late game), but that should be it. The rest of the build is very useful lategame.

Awesome! By far the most rewarding champ to play. Nothing feels better than taking someone from their team who has been owning your team and putting him in his place with 1 combo. I still run in to trouble carrying even if I've been playing well. Its discouraging to know that if I die, its gg for my team, which has happened to me twice now, but its nice to have such a big impact on the outcome of a game. Seems like Veigar is very team dependent since he can only take out 1 target at a time. Making every team fight a 4v5 in a matter of seconds is nice though ^^.

Question: Is it still considered a good use of your E with a jungler gank if you don't stun, but just trap your opponent? This isn't on purpose, but I feel like its better to give yourself wiggle room with the stun instead of going for "hit or miss" by trying to place the edge on 'em. I've had a jungler go nuts because I'd miss my stun by a hair, but the guy is still trapped inside.
