Just curious: would anyone be interested in me adding a section about good and bad champions to lane against for Veigar? Or might you have another idea of something I could add?

Do not combine abyssal scepter with void staff. The magic reduction for abyssal scepter is applied before penetration therefore making the voidstaff less effective. Get one or the other but not both together.

If you read some of the earlier posts (like on the second and third pages) I addressed this same statement with PSIGuard, a well-respected MOBAFire member. I don't get Abyssal Scepter for the magic penetration, although it is a nice bonus. It get it because it is the only item in the game that gives you magic resist and AP. I realize that the flat magic resist is applied before the percentage magic resist, but more often than not, I don't reach the part where I would replace my Doran's Ring with a Void Staff, thereby justifying the additional magic penetration from Abyssal Scepter's passive as a valuable option. It won't matter too much anyway. Anyone with lower than 100 magic resist should be melting with both items. On tanky people, say with 200 magic resist, the enemy's magic resist comes out to be as follows:

With just Abyssal Scepter:
200 - 20 = 180 magic resist

With just Void Staff:
200 - (.4(200)) = 200 - 80 = 120 magic resist

With both Abyssal Scepter and Void Staff:
200 - 20 = 180 - (.4(180)) = 180 - 72 = 108 magic resist

You are still reducing more magic resist with both items than with just a Void Staff alone. There is no point at which Abyssal Scepter would be hurting your magic penetration by lowering the enemy's magic resist before the percentage reduction is applied as it always turns out to be an extra 12 magic penetration you get by having both items, no matter what the enemies magic resist is (although it would be even more if they had below 20 magic resist to start out with, which isn't possible). Even with 500 magic resist, it is still more effective to take both than to only take Void Staff.

With just Abyssal Scepter:
500 - 20 = 480 magic resist

With just Void Staff:
500 - (.4(500)) = 500 - 200 = 300 magic resist

With both Abyssal Scepter and Void Staff:
500 - 20 = 480 - (.4(480)) = 480 - 192 = 288 magic resist

As you can see again, there is an additional 12 magic penetration you are getting by having both Abyssal Scepter and Void Staff. I have even gone to the extent of calculting it at 1 million magic resist and the difference remains an additional 12 magic penetration with both items compared to just the Void Staff. The math doesn't lie.

The mastery section has been updated. I just decided to completely redo the format and start from scratch, so I hope you guys like it! I also added in Surge and Promote to the Summoner Spells section.

Hey MeLink, I managed to find your guide after reading your debate with CHEATX on his guide. While, I have been using CHEATX guide in almost all the games I played with Veigar and I always rush for Tear of goddess [TOG]... But after reading what you debated, I still think that Archangel is much better in terms of the damage output... Yes, maxing the mana out will take long and perhaps for the game it might not even be possible but the ap it gives + 30% [hat] is very high, making a huge difference in the outcome.

I have read your guide and I personally found it quite good too and to be honest with you, I find that the scepter is kinda useless... I myself dun know why too haha.

And as for the voting and the number of people reading your guide, I do find it pitiful... Your guide really need to deserve credits! Anyway good guide you have! It would be good if you can enlighten me about my opinion with the "TOG" stuff . =D

I'm glad someone finally decided to post something of after more than 2 months of no comments and only a few votes (two of which were downvotes with no comment). I appreciate the compliment nonetheless!

Here's what I think about Tear of the Goddess on Veigar:

1) With the recent buff to his mana costs, he is not needing as much early game help with his mana as he has previously needed. Plus this will be a lot of mana that most of the time you won't end up using, so, to an extent, it's gold wasted.
2) Tear of the Goddess, if I remember correctly from my post on iCheatx's guide, takes a minimum of 15 minutes to fill up to the maximum of 1000 additional mana. However, the 15 minutes is nowhere near a realistic estimate due to the fact that there will always be down time where you won't be using your abilities. You will also have to account for your long cooldowns as well as the cooldown for Tear of the Goddess itself. So, all in all, you're at least doubling the minimum time required to max out the Tear of the Goddess's mana bonus passive, if not more. So no immediate results are really gained by rushing this item first.
3) I did some of this math on my guide, so you might want to check that out in the optional items section under Archangel's Staff, but according to the calculations, you gain about 125 ability power from a maxed out Archangel's Staff. Say you don't get the Abyssal Scepter on Veigar, which would normally give you 70 AP and get Archangel's Staff instead. You are only losing out on 55 AP, and honestly, by the time you get a maxed out Archangel's you more than likely don't need that extra 55 AP to nuke down the targets you should be killing.

Despite these arguments, I'm not saying it's a bad item, it's just not the best on Veigar because of his long cooldowns and amazing potential to nuke down the opponent. If you have any counter arguments, I'm more than happy to hear them!
