THIS IS MY INTERPRETATION TO HELP THOSE STRUGGLING
1. ROD OF AGES x3
2. SORCERER'S SHOES
3. RYLAI'S CRYSTAL SCEPTER
4. ZHONYA'S RING
Now your 6th item can be what ever you please. but i find that you maximize off a 3rd rod of ages
ROD OF AGES: The reason these are CORE is you get 650 health and 80 ap
that equals 26 extra AP and 40 extra health x3 that is 78 extra AP and 120extra health
RYLAI'S CRYSTAL SCEPTER: This is a MUST core item, for the same reason + its you every time slow. because you cant always be using sanguine pool, this turns out to be an extra 20 AP and another 40 health
ZHONYA'S RING: This item is a must on any AP caster but on Vladimir it gives you and extra 60 health just off the base AP but it also gives you health off the extra 25% AP you get also
This guide is how i play him, this works very well for me and gets me my kills and if i have a great team limited deaths
i am going to kinda briefly explain each of the 4 phases to you based on how i play, this guide may not be for everyone and some may not just get it because they suck, i am not a pro, im not a tryhard, nor an elitist, im some one who likes to put what i understand out there for discussion and tips.
EARLY PHASE levels 1-6
The early game item build is Regrowth pendant, why you ask ? well with level 1 transfusion, the Cool-down on it is to long to use as a main means of regeneration and you have enough AP in your runebook to hold you until level six, so start of with transfusion, at the long cool down your going mainly use it to last hit, and if you can with out taking more damage then you heal.. harass your lane enemy, member your mid. no worries of that second guy jumping out to stun you, now your going actually play slow levels 1-4 unless your lane enemy is stupid and you get a lot of hits with transfusion on them. and you know you can guarantee the kill 100%, once you hit level 5 your transfusion is on short enough of a cool down that you can use it to harass constantly. now remember you are super over powered so if you over extend, or commit to a kill and you do not know how to react or they have to much health they will most likely kill you. with that said once you hit 6 you move on to the aggressive stage
Aggressive Phase 6+
Once you get your hemoplague you are a lot more powerful this is when you can use transfusion to harass your lane enemy to half then go in for the kill, because your transfusion + tides + hemo + ignite = overkill along with your ghost to keep up.. once you kill this guy look at top and bottom and if there at half health .. well run up there letting you're team know and gank. sit in the river bush let your enemy initiate, then go in with your transfusion and tides and win. this is how simple it is.
by this time you should have gold built up.. if you are even decent with him in mid lane, you will not go back at all not even once by level 7 in fact my team was yelling at me to go back because i had 4.5k saved up because i did not need to go back against a janna,
try to not go back until you have enough for your boots AND most if not all of your first rod of ages, if you need to.. buy basic boots only to get you're rod of ages, that is the most important item to you as your passive benefits off of it 100%
This is where many of your will fail completely, you must change your pace and instantly, You as Vladimir are definitely a threat if played right, but you are also 100% prone to death if ganked, at no point should you be any of the following,
On the enemy side of the river in there jungle alone
Chasing after a champing just out of your reach alone or into there jungle alone
Never fighting 2 or more champions that have more then 1/3 health
These circumstance = instant and assured death, you as Vladimir are a carry if done right, but you are a carry support as well. so with that in mind, you want to linger on the edge of your team bubble. never lead the group but never be last, you will easily have 3.5k + health if you get 6+ kills and little deaths, and are the buffer for your squishes, the way you want to effectively fight team fights is by pop shots, go in transfusion as much as you can get into the fight cast your tides then use sanguine pool to get out if your focused, if they do then you will focus them. pop up cast hemoplague and decimate with your transfusion, if not, do the same to the group. make sure you watch there healths and hit the lowest health champions.
Now. by now you should have a lot better understanding on how to play vladimir, and like i said i am not pro, nor an elitist but out of ALL the Vladimir's i have seen try. they have all failed hard.
reasons why going health build with no ability power is a bad idea
The health ratio is 25 health for 1 ability power, that means for every 100 health you get 4 ap
Warmogs takes kills to build up, this means time farming minions thats time away from team fights
Ability Power ratio is for ever 2 ability power you get 1 health, that means for every 100 ability power you get 50 health
This is why getting items that have health + ability power is a better choice ten fold.
