Here what I did with this guide is take away Volibear's DPS, and Jungling ability's and make him a strict tank.
Pros / Cons
Massive health Easily shut down early game
Massive Regen Not as much damage
Fairly hard to stop Prone to Ganks
Not too much to be concerned about Can get Reckless
Runes and Masteries
Well to start this off, I dont really have a rune/masteries page for every Champion, or for that matter if they use: rage, mana, fury, energy so on. so if you want to change up the runes or anything go for it
The reason I get these items in this order is because, (boots) I personally like being able to move around the battle field with out too much care. (Mana Regen) This item is because who really likes to run out of mana in a key point, so why stack a mana item with no regen when you can just get a simple regener that can be upgraded. (Health Regen) This here comes in to great effect with 3x warmonger because this item is as a base 40hp/5sec + .35 max hip/1sec . so when your sitting at about 3k hp with your 1st warmonger that regen skyrockets. (Health) These 3x Warmonger armor is the most health in the game, which is good unless your facing a champion that deals damage in percentages. so with that almost 3k health with three fresh warmongers (920 per) + 1050 passive (350 per) you become pretty much un-stoppable unless a gank is set up.
This skill order is mostly set up for if what ever lane you go into has a team mate that can stun/ do a ton of damage very fast! other wise later in game with volibear's Q most he will out run most people (champions Ive encountered he will not out run are :Teemo, Master yi, Jax and Rammus with his movement ability) Volibear's E is a slow/ minion fear, very useful for casing someone down, and letting a teammate get up to you for help if needed. Volibear's Ult, if just kinda a fun little thing doesn't deal a ton of damage, but it helps none the less, I would say only use almost every fight early game, and then closer to later/mid game its really a choice. Then Volibears W is just and attack speed increase , and depending on how much health a target has deals a good bit of damage. the reason why i get this last is just because to me it doesn't seem all that useful early game. (Sorry if I have the Levels off this is my first guide and the first time Ive had to think about it)
Team work really is key here to make a Tank Volibear effective at pretty much everything he does, and having Volibear keep an eye on who need helps ,and who doesn't.
Ignite - the reason behind this spell is because it can change the outcome of a 1v1 battle early with volibear, Ive had many encounters where its saved me a death, and its TRUE DAMAGE who doesn't like true damage?
Exhaust - the reason behind this spell is as well if someone is out running you, you can slow them down, and make it so they cant attack as fast for a few seconds. So more speed in your favor and why not pitch them over your shoulder?!?!
To wrap this up, This build here might take sometime to fully get, but when you have this fully made up, there really is little chance of stopping you, Ive done 1V2 pretty easily with this build, and even did a 1v3 with out his passive going off (when voilbear drops below 30% health he gains 30% increased health regen for 6 sec.) but it really depends who you are facing.
