Here are some of the reasons I decided that these items were very effective on Volibear.
Mercury's Treads / Ninja Tabi:
Pick ninja tabi if they are an AD heavy team or if they have very little CC. Otherwise, stick with merc treads.
Volibear benefits from all the stats this amazing items provides. The HP increases Frenzy damage and his Chosen of the Storm heal. The magic resistance helps him tank the enemy's AP carry better. The cooldown reduction helps him to constantly be using his Rolling Thunder and Majestic Roar to help keep his enemies in place for his team to demolish. This item's passive synergizes extremely well with his passive, allowing him to fight forever if no one uses Ignite on him.
This item also synergizes with Volibear extremely well. The HP increases Frenzy damage and his Chosen of the Storm heal. The armor helps him tank their AD carry better. This item's passive is amazing as it gives him free passive aoe damage. You can also clear an entire creep wave with this item's passive and a single Majestic Roar.
Insane HP + HP regen. What more can be said?
This item provides Volibear with enough damage to kill the enemy's VIP quickly. Volibear scales better with attack speed than attack damage because of Thunder Claws on hit proc and his passive attack speed buff from Frenzy. This item's passive is also like a mini Thunder Claws so he will still be able to do decent damage to the enemy team even when his ultimate is on cooldown.
The HP this item provides helps Chosen of the Storm and Frenzy, while the passive slow helps lock his opponent in case Majestic Roar is on cooldown.
Overall, these items provide Volibear with a ton of HP, amazing utility from Frozen Mallet and Spirit Visage, and great multi-target damage from Sunfire Cape and Statikk Shiv.
Volibear's amazing kit allows him to take several roles for a team, including tank, anti-carry, or even CC bot if he has a bad start.
Chosen of the Storm:
This ability truly shines in the early game and late game. Early game, you can use your passive to bait an enemy into fighting you when both of you are low, help your early game sustain in the jungle after chugging all your Health Potions, and helping you stay alive in teamfights once you have a good chunk of health and defense power.
This is your initiate/peel skill. You can go full man mode and run into all 5 enemies and flip a squishy target, or you can flip their assassin/anti-carry away from your AD carry. You can also catch people by surprise by activating Rolling Thunder a good distance away from your target, then using Flash right on them for an almost guaranteed kill.
This skill is what makes Volibear able to carry his team. It scales with HP and with the % of HP missing on your target, making it an excellent move both early and late game. The attack speed passive also works extremely well with Thunder Claws.
A very strong AOE slow. It helps restrict an entire enemy team's movement so your team can catch up to them and destroy them. Majestic Roar can also be used to peel effectively for your ADC.
This is what defines Volibear as the Thunder's Roar. Use this skill while in the middle of the enemy team to do some crazy damage while setting up your team for an easy clean up.
Volibear is an exceptional ganker and should not be underestimated. He brings great cc and damage. Do not charge straight in with your Rolling Thunder unless you know for sure their flash is down or if you need to catch up to them. Try walking into lane
