Welcome to my quick guide on Volibear. Volibear is one of my favorite champions to play because you never have to think , "Can I take them?" The answer is always YES!
Volibear is a late game raid boss that almost no one can kill. He is one of the best Champions to carry out of low elos like Bronze and Silver, maybe even Gold. Low elo players don't know how to handle Volibear's tankyness and insane damage! Late game volibear can honestly one shot the enemy adc with his W!
So if you are tired of losing to people feeding and are looking for a carry champion, look no further. Volibear is your guy!
So I know my runes may be different from the more advanced guides on volibear; however, I have found that these runes give me a huge early game advantage, which is good for carrying games.
The Attack damage Quints and Marks help me clear the jungle much faster and they also give you some good early game damage.
I use the standard Armor Seals and MR blues. They help you have better survivability in the jungle and also during ganks.
For masteries there are a lot of choices that you can choose from. Thats why i love Volibear so much. He can work with a variety of different builds, runes, and masteries.
For my masteries however, I like going 12/0/18. This allows me to have some more damage output on my E and W. I didn't choose courage of the Colossus because Volibear's only hard CC is his Q. To maximize my survivability in team fights or 1v1s I like to take Grasp of the Undying. Volibear's W passively grants him a short period of attack speed, which makes it super easy to get a few Grasp of the Undying procks in a team fight.
Overall, the masteries can be changed to your liking. For example you can go full damage volibear and go 18/12/0 or 12/18/0. Its all up to your play style.
Volibear is a very simple Champion to play and also to build. The only criteria for building volibear is you NEED health. The more health Volibear has the more damage his W (bite) does. That is what makes Volibear so good. Not only is he a hyper tank but he can also do insane amount of damage! In one of my games I built full HP volibear and by the end of the game my W was doing about 1500 true damage! That can one shot an adc or AP carry.
So lets get to the items that I like to use.
Dead Man's Plate: This item gives you health and armor. It also gives you bonus movement speed which can help you not get kited as much. It also gives you a free stun after it is full charged.
I like this item on voli because it gives him more movement speed allowing him to chase champions down quicker. It also gives you some good tank stats
Righteous Glory: This item gives you a decent amount of health but the main reason i get it on Voli is to chase enemies down! The active gives you a large burst of movement speed towards enemies. This is amazing on volibear especially with his Q. You can literally chase down almost anyone.
Cinderhulk: More health=more damage. Helps clear jungle camps quicker
**Knights Vow: So this is a new item in pre-season 7. It gives you a good amount of health and is cheeper than Deadmans Plate! I haven't used this item yet on volibear but it has potential to be a must buy. What makes it so good for junglers is that it provides an amazing healing source. What you do is you bind it to your ADC and during team fights you take a percentage of the ADC's damage dealt to you, BUT the damage the ADC gives out will HEAL you! I can see this being an amazing item in team fights, especially with Volibear. Voli can peel very well for the carries so while he peels, the adc or whoever you bind the item too, can heal you. I can see this being broke AF!
Warmorgs: This item gives you a massive health boost and also damage( with his W ). In addition, the health regen on this item is broken. You can tank in a fight and then chill for a few seconds and come back into the fight with your health already back!
Spirit Visage: This is a MUST BUY on Volibear. It increases his health and MR. It also increases the amount of health regen he gets from his passive. ALSO it will increase the healing done from Warmorgs and Knights Vow!!! Basically, with these 3 items, you will be an unkillable beast!
For Boots, it is honestly all situational. Merc Treds are useful if the team has magic and a lot of slows. Mobie Boots are good to get more banks off, just moving quicker to lanes. Ninja Tavi are good against high AD comps.
