There are some problems with this guide. It's a little bit outdated. It states that Mordekaiser uses mana and there isn't any explanation on why Blade of the Ruined King isn't present. IMO Volibear doesn't have really hard CC. He has more soft CC than anything and the cool downs are relatively high on them and the amount of utility isn't amazing. The guide is pretty though.

Added Alternative Start Option with Doran's Shield for Instant-Downvoters like you, which sucks even more. Thx for the constructive feedback anyways. ;-P

Hi there, in the cheatsheet it's titled "Tank (Solo Top)". In the Section "Introduction" and again in Section "Lane Domination" i made pretty clear, that i recommend Volibear for Top Lane and Jungle. I update the Guide with more content about Jungling and Support Gameplay with respective Build Suggestions - but some times later. This is a first Alphaversion as it's said in the Changelog ^_^

Between the summoner spells and the masteries, right off the bat I'm not sure what kind of guide this is for. Is it for top, or support? You should make it clear asap what role it is for, as someone looking for a solo top Volibear guide might not proceed any further then the cheatsheet if he mistakes it for a support Volibear guide.

If Rylai's Crystal Scepter procs with Stormbringer. I would replace it with Frozen Mallet. It would be like an multi-target-auto-attack slow. You'll also deal more overall damage. Just a suggestion though. Tell me what you think.

Hi there, I also have experimented with Rylai's Crystal Scepter, but i never really felt the better advantages, when Teamfights started. I wouldn't build it as third Item, maybe as last item. The reason is simple - Frozen Mallet gives 200 Health more (every extra Health is always welcomed for Tanks and besides gives Frenzy extra Damage for more successful Executions) plus 40% Movement Slow, while Rylai's Crystal Scepter will only give extra Damage for the Ulti, 5% less Slow on the Main-Target and Multi-Slow of only 15%, when using the Ulti (which i can't use as often as the faster reloading Frenzy )

btw this issue was discussed in the past already very much.

Quoted:
I just wanted to understand the ups and downs between the 2 and why phreak choose to use rylais instead of frozen mallet

lets analyze how each item works, by the way, since I dont have enough ip to buy the champion, i only have information from the wiki page to go on for ap ratios, so if I have the wrong information plz correct me so I can understand him better

now for benefits of the passive, frozen mallet will give more benefits since it provides more hp thus more healing per second and thats about it for that

for rolling thunder, since theres ap or ad ratio (according to the wiki page) and since the ability does damage on next attack and is a single target, theres no real benefits between the 2 items

for frenzy, you get better damage from frozen mallet since it adds 140 damage while with rylai's you only get 100 bonus damage. but with rylai's your able to cast it at a slight range thus able to catch up to the enemy, but with frozen mallet you get the slowing effect while attacking and thus helps you stick to the enemy.

for majestic roar, it already has a huge slow to it thus neither of the items are useful for it's slowing effect, but with rylais your increasing the damage of the aoe by 60% of your AP. with frozen mallet you can at least again stick to your enemy.

for thunder claw, im unsure but I feel like rylai's will only proc the reduced aoe version of the slow but will also proc it on multiple enemies. and since this will only happen on attack, thus frozen mallet will provide more slow but only to a single target

so after analyzing, it seems to me that against single enemy frozen mallet is far superior but rylai's is better if you plan on being aoe. but over all I think frozen mallet is a better choice

From:
volibear - rylai's crystal scepter vs frozen mallet

Since the stats of the two items haven't changed, it's still a question of preference in Gameplay. I would ask you, why not building up both for maximum Slow Effect? But postponing Rylai's Crystal Scepter for later.

:-)

yeah i know, it should be shorter. ^_^ I will update the content some time later and try to put more content into spoilers. Thx for the quick feedback.

Nice build, this is nicely put together with a good amount of bbcode. You have explained everything nicely, i like that you showed all the different defensive options. My only thing is i don't know if you have the items in purchase order, that needs explained. If it is in purchase order, i would put Frozen Mallet before Randuin's Omen. Well gj on this build and keep it up!

Hi there, thx for the quick feedback! TBH i tried it with Frozen Mallet first and Randuin's Omen thereafter, but i did have more success with spending the money for upgrading the first Giant's Belt to Randuin's Omen just to counter AD-Autoattackers faster. The Frozen Mallet is good with a bit more Health and some AD and the Slowdown-Effect, but it's very expensive and you delay your Armor-Boost, which you will need earlier out of my personal experience.
