Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
Introduction to Warwick Guide
Good day to all, this is actually my first guide on mobafire, and I am just re-editing this mainly because I haven't edited it in a long time and Season 3 is here! There a lot of changes you must understand and a lot of confusion comes into play so browsing through the whole guide can maybe help answer some of your questions, not all but some.
Anyways moving on to the guide, the guide i will be showing you right now would be the most success i have with when I play Warwick and the things I have learnt when playing him.Without a doubt, he's a strong jungler, still has that sustain in the jungle. So moving on, this is what I've had success with when playing Warwick in Season 3.
Why Play Warwick?
Warwick is just one of those champs that can really come in handy at times and make great plays. This guy can basically like almost beat anyone in a 1 v 1 situation and also his skills are pretty unique because his Hungering Strike and Infinite Duress scales off AP. Same goes with his passive, and it increasingly does more damage on the same target. Again items are always based on your opponents.
>Can easily chase off people with low-health
>Surpress is pretty much lock-on and the opponent can't do much about it
>Can detect people with low health even when in brush
>Ganking is easy and effective
>Can initiate in a fight
>Can solo baron!
''Eventually the beast catches up with all of us.''
Warwick was once a man revered for his ability to track down human specimens for the darkest types of scientific research. When his ambitions exceeded his physical limits, he drank a dangerous elixir to transform himself into an unstoppable manhunter. His newfound strength bore a heavy price.
Before his transformation, Warwick found his calling in Zaun as a ''procurer'' of human test subjects. Known for his crafty methods and ruthless determination, people regarded him with a cautious mixture of fear and respect. As his reputation grew, so did the demands placed upon him. His clients wanted more rare and dangerous specimens, and they wanted them sooner. To meet their demands, Warwick needed strength that transcended his limited human form. His longtime friend, Singed, devised a powerful formula. The recipe called for three critical components: silver from the Shadow Isles, the fang of a Balefire dire wolf, and the heart of a celestial being. Warwick tracked down the first two in short order, but the third proved a much greater challenge. He traveled to Ionia to trap Soraka, a creature believed to be a child of the stars, but she discovered his ploy and drove him away with powerful magic. Unable to tolerate his failure, Warwick returned to Singed disfigured and furious. He demanded the chemist's incomplete potion, but Singed warned him that the results would be unpredictable. Ignoring his friend's warning, Warwick drank the concoction. The brew transformed him into a creature both man and wolf, infusing him with raw strength and heightened senses. Exhilarated, he immediately began testing his newfound power. Each day his instincts became sharper, but his human half slipped further away. He could feel himself losing control: though he always got his prey, he often failed to bring them back alive. Now he seeks the heart of Soraka to stabilize his transformation before his mind gives way to the feral urges of the beast.
Greater Quintessence of Attack Speed
Greater Mark of Magic Penetration
Greater Glyph of Magic Resist
Greater Seal of Armor
Greater Quintessence of Attack Speed(3) These runes are pretty typical for Warwick because you would want that slight 10% attack speed. It may not seem like a lot, but it's great for clearing the jungle.
Greater Mark of Magic Penetration (9) This may seem odd, but it's best if you get magic penetration marks for Warwick. These enhances your damage for your Hungering Strike, Infinite Duress and your passive Eternal Thirst. Overall great for bursting down some of your opponent's MR.
Greater Glyph of Magic Resist (9) Again very typical MR glyphs. They always come in handy regardless of the situation unless the whole of the other team is AD =(
Greater Seal of Armor (9) Flat armor for increased defense from physical damage champs! Always great to have these along side you. Also helps you get decreased from the jungle camps.
Since you are the jungler, it's best you take the21-0-9 masteries taking 21 in offense and 9 in utility. The offensive runes have a complete package of attack speed, armor penetration, attack damage and Executioner which is also great when you're chasing down someone.
Now the utility masteries section is pretty straight forward because you would want Runic Affinity for increased duration for red buff, blue buff and baron buff. Longer duration of buffs obviously helps you with your jungling speed, ganking potential and overall sustain!
Eternal Thirst- Passive: Warwick 's passive is Eternal Thirst, which is basically really great when it comes to 1 v 1 situations or basically jungling alone. This is so great because you deal increased damage over time on the same target and you also heal yourself for each hit. This is ridiculously good for your sustain in the jungle. Combine this with Hunter's Machete , your jungle speed is basically ridiculous!
Hungering Strike- Q: Your Q is a great ability that deals magic damage and also a percentage of their maximum health. Warwick then gets health back (80% of the damage you dealt)
Hunters Call- W: This ability grants you a massive boost of attack speed for yourself and the team. Really great for taking down towers in a jiffy as well as the jungle of course! Get this if want your teammates help you get a pretty strong leash. However, Warwick 's fine without a leash.
Blood Scent- E: I like this ability because it grants Warwick a boost of movement speed whenever he senses someone at low health. This also works with people in brushes, which is ridiculous. So great for chasing people down.
Infinite Duress- R: This is the only CC ability Warwick has and probably the only ability as well that makes his ganks successful. Warwick without this ability pretty much can't gank well at all. This also works pretty great with Flash if you're trying initiate on a 2 v 3 or a 1 v 2 or get a guy offguard.
Your combo when ganking is usually R-->Q-->W. The only time you don't immediately use your ulti is when the opponent is really really pushed and you can just come behind them. What I like to do is make them waste Flash first. Once they do, this is when you use your ulti. Ganks are usually successful especially when your top laner, mid laner and bot has at least one CC. Example: Jayce, Diana , Taric and Graves.
has a lot of other optional items, that can help you better but to pick the optional items, it's best to look at the situation that you are in.
Specifically for example,
can be used instead of Mercury Treads if the other team has 3 or more AD champions. You would want to make sure you get the least amount of damage possible.
Optional and Beneficial Items for Jarvan IV
This is probably the item you would want in exchange for Wit's End or Spirit Visage. This item is pretty typical for Warwick, and it's very viable.
It seems odd, but this item actually works on Warwick because when he auto attacks, he deals attack damage and magic damage as well. Especially because this item also gives you life steal and spell vamp.
Again this Item is probably one of those very viable ones. You get this if you want to try something different out. Very effective on Warwick. Just take note these gives you tenacity unique passive!
Well I can tell that you guys would really want this item for Warwick. That attack speed is just really good for this wolf. However, I wouldn't really buy this maybe sometimes, if you want to mock around.
You must always get this item whenever you have no tank. Grants your team a massive overall boost from this passive.
Again another very viable item. The health, armor pen and cooldown reduction from this item is very tempting.
Just gives you great tankyness. And that new unique passive of health regeneration is helpful.
This is where I am gonna stop, because there are a lot more viable items for Warwick and I can just keep going till forever!
Must use spells:
Flash is just one of those summoner spells that is very handy any situations. You can do a lot with this spell and this is usually great with your Infinite Duress to get into range when you're trying to catch someone offguard.
Flash Very typical for any jungler. Must have at all times. It helps you clear these new jungles so much faster!
Flash You only get this when your whole team doesn't take exhaust. It's not a bad idea to have this spell because it comes in very handy.
Teleport Sure why not maybe if you want to try that shifty ward in brush, teleport and then gank style. Not really my style but this is still helpful at times.
Ghost Don't necessarily need this. I think the movement speed bonus from your E is good enough.
Useful Starting Items
(5) again, one of the most famous starting items the Health Potion, it's just so useful for early game situations.
This is now the main starting jungle item for any jungler. This is just very great because it helps you clear those camps fast and also, this will build into your Spirit Stone!
I don't advise you to start with this, but it's still an early item because you need to get this when you recall back to base. Make sure you bring back wards with you especially if you know the jungler might counter jungle you. TIP: If the opposing jungler takes your red or even just the big wraith, they're obviously going to go back there. If they notice you don't do anything about it, they'll keep going back there.
Spirit stone" This item is pretty great because of that health regen and mana regen. This will build into Spirit of the Ancient Golem.
Spirit Stone So about this item again, think of it as the old Philosopher's stone , but for junglers! You also have that unique passive of increased damage to monsters and you build this into your Spirit of the Ancient Golem.
boots of mobility So i am sure some of you people would have asked why Boots of Mobility? My answer to that is because first of all, the Season 3 jungle and overall changes is a massive kick from Season 2. The way everything set out is pretty complex especially because we are all new to it. A lot of questions come into play but the reason why you want this is because it basically helps you with your ganking potential. Of course, if you get closer and faster to an opponent, you have a higher chance to dash on forward to them. This is the main goal of having these boots. But then again due to the season 3 changes, it makes it more complex. So however I get the unique passive from Spirit of the Ancient Golem , it still has that less 35% duration for CC ( which is great ) and also why I choose these boots. Again the rest will take care of itself. Experiment things in custom games. They are the fastest way to help learn what items to get or what you're comfortable with but of course, this guide is here to help you and I find this successful so far.
Hexdrinker is a pretty good early game item, granting 25 attack damage and 25 magic resist and you get the shield. It's good for teams that have a lot of AP. However, your Spirit Visage and Wit's End Should be strong enough!
Black Cleaver The reason why you don't need The Brutalizer or this item is because your basically more of an hybrid related champion. Warwick 's abilities are based on AP. You get this though if your using an AD bruiser like Xin Zhao.
I would like to thank all the people that have viewed this post before and I am sorry that before, this wasn't the best build I could have given because I didn't know how to BBCode, but now that I did, I had to re-edit everything in this build. This is my 1st build, but this is the 3rd one with the proper BBCoding in it.
The builds above are based on what I have the most success with and I've gone through the things that can help you out in game through my experience in playing Warwick.
It would be very much appreciated to give this build a rating hopefully a thumbs up and comments. I'll gladly reply to any of the comments below or if you have any questions just simply PM me.
If you want to play with me, PM me so I can add you up. :) I hope all of yous have a great day.
