Master Yi Build
Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
Hola, I have been playing Yi for a while now and he is one of my favorite champs. Many believe he is a total damage dealer and a "right click to win" champion. This can be true at low skill levels, but you will soon be losing more than win with this strategy. This is how I build him and it works well for me. This is also my first guide so bear with me......
I use Armor Pen marks and quints every time. this gives you 31 armor pen at level one which nullifies neutral monsters armor and almost negates champs beginning armor.
Personally, I like mana regen per level runes for seals; or flat armor if you decide to jungle. The mana regen help keep you in the lane longer, while the armor helps with jungling.
Finally, to cope with the huge burst output of most ap champs, I use MR/level glyphs. CDR glyphs work as well.
for masteries I use the usual dps masteries 21/0/9 since you will be jungling once you get madreds.(assuming you don't have one; do not take his jungle!!)
I max Alpha for early farming and harass. Take one point in wuju and meditate, then proceed to max wuju and finally meditate, taking your ult where possible.
I take flash+ whatever my team needs.
The second spell is what your team is lacking, be it CC(exhaust), ignite, or if you want to jungle, smite.
I start with Dorans Ring. I do this for 2 reasons:
It helps keep you in the lane for a good long while, and it throws off many players into thinking that your going ap. I don't know why, but alot of times after the enemy blue pills back or revives, they come back with MR.
2nd I get berserkers greaves. These help alot with you dmg output and farming.
Next up is Madreds Razors. These will build into wiggles for sustainability and jungling. The free ward it provides is amazing. You can use it to ward your lane or preferably dragon or baron.
Next is Frozen Mallet, built from Phage. This helps keep enemies from getting away while giving you some much needed tankiness.
Now the power item of the build..........Atmas. Yes, it can be used with other items other than warmongs. With Frozen Mallet and Atmas, you should have about 250 ad. Not to mention the armor this provides.
Now for some MR. Wit's End is an amazing item which increases your damage output while making you laugh at AP users.
Round out with some Lifesteal from Starks and Thirster, and your golden. If the game lasts long enough, you can trade out those greaves for a PD. I am currently toying with the idea of replacing Bloodthirster with Hextech Gunblade; to help with alpha burst and meditate heal, while still providing a good amount of lifesteal.
Yi should be treated like any melee dps, do not engage and do not get cocky; let your tank do that. The way I build him makes him tanky yes, but he should not be getting targeted. If you find yourself targeted by attacks but don't feel stuns/silences coming your way; then use meditate. 300 armor and MR is no joke, it will help you survive.
Hope you like this guide, and please leave comments and feedback on any tips for the guide or the build itself.
