Not Updated For Current Season
This guide has not yet been updated for the current season. Please keep this in mind while reading. You can see the most recently updated guides on the browse guides page
Akali is a very easy lane for Mordekaiser. All she can do to her targets is burst them down, but you can't burst Morde. You also make it almost impossible to farm as long as you harass with E.
Fizz
Fizz is like any other assassin; burst. Once again, he won't be able to burst Mordekaiser down. You can harass him with E whenever he tried to farm, and if he engages, punish him.
Kassadin
Same as the above! This time, Kass has poke, but it can easily be negated by clearing minion waves.
Talon
Another Assassin that can't burst Mordekaiser down. The only difference with Talon is that he may have a chance to kill if your low, and he ults. You won't be able to survive because you can't target him with your ult. Try to buy pink wards against him to counter this.
Yasuo
You will make Yasuo cry. You can harass him more than he can harass you. Yes, he has mobility, but it doesn't matter if he can't hurt you. If he ever ults, use Children of the Grave right after his finishes. You should be able to win every trade against him.
Zed
Another easy lane for Mordekaiser, because you can negate most of his burst. His ult is the only reason this one is a little harder than previous champions. He can avoid most of your burst if he times it correctly.
Katarina
Katarinas across the world will cower in front of Mordekaiser. She has very low waveclear, and you have the best waveclear in the game. Use this to your advantage. If she ever engages and ults, you can simply sit there and use all of your skills to kill her AND absorb most of her damage with your passive and ultimate.
Diana
I've had some good games against Diana, but also bad games. She can harass you in lane from much farther than you can. Hers also ensures that she can engage when she wants. She has a shield too, and that could be a problem for your burst. If it's a prolonged fight, you should be able to outsustain her and win. Be careful around her turret. If she hits your with her Q, she can R in and then E to pull you under her turret. You'll be slowed, and hit by the turret and her. She also does this if a gank is coming her way.
Anivia
Anivia goes through mana very quickly early game, so use this time to harass. Once she gets Blue buff or a good mana item, you'll have to be more careful in lane. She can make it so YOU can't farm, and she won't let you hit her. If you get stunned by her Q, she can normally burst you down. Take advantage of her early game and snowball of that.
Annie
Annie has enough burst combined with her stun to kill you without you being able to retaliate. If Mordekaiser is stunned, he can't build up his shield. This is why hard CC is a huge counter to him. One weakness you can use against Annie is her range. She has low range, similar to you. If you're able to burst her down before she can stun you, you should be able win most trades. Push hard early game too! She saves most of her mana to just use her Q to last hit. She won't be able to push quickly if she wants to save mana.
Ahri
Ahri has much, much more range than Mordekaiser. As she's hitting minions, she'll be hitting you with her Q too. Even if you have your passive up, her Q can usually take it out if it hits you twice. If you get hit by her Charm, and she has DFG, you're usually dead. You have no way of building of your shield, so you're squishy. Try farm from far away behind minions, and avoid fights with her until you can get DFG. Only fight her if she comes up to you.
Cassiopeia
Cass's endless harass makes Mordekaiser useless in lane. If you try to farm, she will Twin Fangs you to death. You won't have much time to get your passive up, so good luck surviving her poke. This is a lane that you want to avoid at all costs.
Brand
Brand's harass is nothing to laugh about. He has medium range, and can harass Mordekaiser without getting touched. Your passive won't do much against him because Brand's passive will counter it. At level 6, if he lands his stun on you, you're normally dead. Try to avoid this lane too!
Heimerdinger
Heimer is great at harassing by doing nothing. He places his turrets, and just sits there as they farm. As Mordekaiser, you won't be able to farm easily. You can go in to last hit minions, but at the same time, the turrets and Heimer's Missiles will take out your shield and health. You won't be able to get close to him unless you get your Junglers help.
Karthus
Karthus has ultimate poke, but luckily enough, if you're standing in the middle of the minions charging up your passive, his Q will very little damage and won't even scratch your shield. If you're away from minions, then try to avoid his endless Qs. If he tried to go up to you with his Defile up, walk straight up to him, and burst him down. Your shield should be able to protect you long enough for you to get out. Also, if he ever ults, you can to nearby monsters/minions and hit them with your spells to survive his Requiem.
Malzahar
As long Malzahar has his Junglers help, you won't be able to do much. He sets up ganks very easily with his R. In that time, you will be dead. If you're in lane against him on your own, then it should be fairly simple. You won't be able to him often, but you can farm with ease. If his Malefic Visions hits you, then you can farm minions to negate its damage. Just be aware of his ult! That will get you killed many times.
Orianna
Most of Orianna's harass can be negated with your passive. She will also go through mana very fast if you she keeps trying to hurt you. Use this to your advantage and push hard. Should be somewhat easy as long as she's incompetent.
Veigar
Viegar is somewhat easy to beat in lane. You can push the lane very quickly! This will make it very hard for Veigar to last hit with his Q. You can also harass him with your E whenever you need to. His ult can't do much against you as long as you aren't stunned.
Xerath
We all know range counters Mordekaiser. Xerath IS range! This will be a fairly difficult lane. Try to waste Xerath's mana by dodging his Q, and getting up your shield before his harass. If you stay away from your minions, he will have to choose between CS or hitting you.
Syndra
This is a fairly easy lane if the enemy Syndra doesn't know what they're doing. If they can land their Q consistently, then this will be very tough. If they can't then it should be easy. Your burst with your ult and other skills combined should be able to take most of Syndra's ult. Once her ult is gone, she's pretty useless. Take advantage of that! Try to farm from a distance too.
LeBlanc
Le'Blanc is normally an easy lane, but sometimes a little tough. Your shield can take most of her burst, but she can make laning a little tough. She has no waveclear, but she can still W to you across minions to hurt you, then go back before you can even hit her. This will get annoying, but once you can get close to her, she's dead.
Ziggs
Ziggs is also an embodiment of annoying range. Now that mana has been nerfed, he shouldn't be as difficult, but once he gets Blue, laning is usually over for you. His constant harass will make it nearly impossible to farm, and his passive makes his Auto attacks hurt too. This lane will be difficult, so get your Jungler's help.
Azir
Here's a lane to ignore. Never go Mordekaiser into Azir. NEVER! He is the biggest lane bully on the street. He can do this while being far away too. You will NOT be able to hit him, and you will NOT be able to farm. Just don't do this lane.
Hello! This is my first guide I've made, and I decided to make it for my favorite champion, Mordekaiser! You can check my match history if you would like, InfiniteDelusion, and see my recent games as Mordekaiser. I'm only Gold 5, or at least WAS last season. I stopped playing after I hit Gold, but I may have been able to climb higher. I generally do very well as Mordekaiser, unless I decide to go AD for fun. Don't do that... go AP.
As the Master of Metal, you want the enemies to fear him. Most players actually under-estimate Mordekaiser. He's so underplayed that people will think you're trolling if you're using him. Show them that they're wrong by carrying your team.
