Hello everyone and welcome to my guide on how to build Irelia : the will of the blades. This is my first champion guide ever created and I hope it brings lots of experience and good tips for those who enjoy playing Irelia.

Irelia is a classified as a nuke, carry, assassin, melee champion, She is an incredibly squishy champion and requires alot of care. She shines when it comes to jungling but proves to be a much better ganker.

: Irelia's Passive ability is called Ionian fervor. It has a ward like effect where when enemys are champions are near irelia she reduces the effectiveness of Crowd control's on Irelia. The percentage of reduction increases when she is near more champions. This skill can also be used to detect enemy ganks, or if the enemy is hiding in the brush.

1 Champion : 10%
2 Champions : 25%
3 Champions : 40%

: Irelia's first ability is blade surge. Blade surge is a single target ability with a radius. When an enemy inside the radius is targeted with Blade surge Irelia will instantly dash toward that target dealing 20 / 55 / 90 / 125 / 160 (+1 per attack damage). If she kills her target with blade surge the cooldown on blade surge will be refreshed and she will be returned 35 mana.

Cooldown 14 / 12 / 10 / 8 / 6 seconds | Costs 70 Mana |

: Irelia's Third ability is Hiten Style. This is her main bread and butter, This is where Irelia's main damage output will come from. Learning hiten style will give Irelia's auto attack's passive health restoration(Note : Not lifesteal). When activated hiten style will give Irelia's attacks additional True damage. If you plan on jungling with irelia this is going to be your main survival ability.

10 / 14 / 18 / 22 / 26 Health restoration per hit 15 / 30 / 45 / 60 / 75 True damage for 6 seconds Cooldown 15 seconds | Costs 40 mana |

: Irelia's Third ability is Equilibrium Strike. This is an offensive ability than contributes differently depending on your health vs the enemies health. It deals 80 / 135 / 190 / 245 / 300 (+100% of ability power) damage and slowing the target by 60% for 1 / 1.25 / 1.5 / 1.75 / 2 seconds. However, if the target has a higher Health % than Irelia, then the blow stuns the target instead.

Cooldown 9 seconds | Cost 50 / 55 / 60 / 65 / 70 mana |

: Irelia's Ultimate is Transcendant Blades. Irelia summons 4 blades which she can shoot at her enemies. These blades deal 80 / 130 / 180 (+40% of ability power) OR +0.6 per bonus Attack Damage magic damage to enemies that they pass through, and she heals for 20% of that damage. This skill is incredibly useful for finishing off enemy champions and regaining health. The cooldown for this ability is Very short so don't be afraid of using it on creeps.

Cost 100 mana |

Early Game | Laning phase

In the early game Irelia is very vulnerable and squishy. You should always keep an eye out for MIA calls and always check the map once in a while to check if the enemy champions are in their respective lanes.

When up against ranged enemy champions and enemy champions with stuns, always stay behind your creeps. Avoid going up and getting the last hits no matter how tempting they are as you will be dropped quite quickly. Turret hugging is your friend.

Coordinating ganks with your allies is essential when playing Irelia.

Mid / Late game | Team fight phase

At this point in the game you should be getting close to or already in the team fight phase. This is when irelia's passive can come in handy, when detecting those ganks and detecting enemy champions in the brush. When entering a teamfight DO NOT engage first. The enemy champions know how squishy you are and they know how much damage you can do if you are left alone thus making you their prime target.

When entering a team fight active transcendant blades first because the blades will stay there for a while and its more convenient when the enemy champions start retreating.

Summoner Abilities

For summoner abilites i like to go with exhaust and flash. Exhaust for helping me catch up to enemy champions early game and the blind for auto attacking champions such as tryndamere and master yi. Flash is a must because you will be target alot in a game due to your squishyness. Flash is the way to go to escape those enemy ganks and tough situations.

For runes i like to go with the standard mark of desolation for armor penetration, seals and glyphs of alacrity for the attack speed boost which will greatly come in handy. For my quintessence's i like to get desolation for that additional armor penetration.

Item Reasoning

Your going to want to start out with a boots of speed and a health pot. Boots is great for strafing in and out and avoiding death early game.

As soon as you have the gold upgrade your boots to a berserker greaves. The extra speed and attack speed will great for helping you gank.

Next you should get a zeal for that more attack speed, critical chance, and movement speed. These 3 are exceptionally essential for Irelia.

Once you get phage you will start to rack up some kills. The health gives you more survivability and the slow really helps you catch up, and hunt down your enemies.

Next you upgrade phage to frozen mallet. You may be asking "secret why not upgrade zeal first?" Well my reasoning is that the health REALLY keeps you alive, and the slow is essential, what is the point of having high attack speed if you can't keep up? (This is a must)

Yes, its finally time to get phantom dancer. The combination of phantom dancer along with frozen mallet will make you a beast at hunting down enemies (This is a must).

Youmuus is a fantastic item for Irelia, the dodge, crit chance, Cooldown reduc, armor pen, damage is just to awesome. The attack speed and movement speed from the unique active will put you over the top. (This is a must)

Last but not least we have our blood thirster. Added along with your passive HEALTH RESTORATION you will wreck. Not to mention the 100+ damage after maxing the passive.

Regarding the last missing item slot

I left the last item slot open for conditional items. What are conditional/situational items you may ask?, well they are items that change depending on the situation you are in. For example : Say you are versing a team with 2 or more tanks the conditional/situational item in that situation would be a madreds razor to assist you in burning down their health. Another example is if you feel like you are getting crowd controlled alot and annoyed by the enemy spells. You may want to get a banshees veil for the spell shield.

Comments and suggestions

Please feel free to comment and leave me suggestions, i will be reading all of them. As this is my first guide i will expect criticism. I appreciate everyone for taking the time to read my guide.
