Introduction


Greetings, this is a hybrid carry build for Garen. If you've had the chance to play against me you'll know by now that i'm no easy foe to defeat. I've had a lot of success with this build and I wanted to share it with all of you. Based on the items, runes, and masteries i've chosen, your Garen will be extremely difficult to kill at low levels, and will still end up being very deadly at higher levels! See below for details and a screenshot of my success! =)







Summoner Spells



Exhaust is the perfect summoner spell at level 1, the combination of Judgment, Boots of Speed, and Exhaust = First Blood. Now not only does it cripple your opponents movement, it also blinds them causing them to miss all attacks for 3 seconds, this really comes in handy for a carry in a 1vs1 situation, and as we all know Garen's Ultimate = Death for anyone below 30%.


Flash really is the key in any Garen build, for it gives you the ability catch an enemy off guard, whom may be hiding behind his tower. The trick is to Flash in, use your Ultimate on a low health enemy, then use Courage and Decisive Strike to flea. Instant First Blood! It also provides a necessary tool to escape, and or catch up to a fleeing enemy.

[DECISIVE STRIKE]

Active): Garen's speed is increased for the next 2 seconds, and his next attack deals his base damage plus bonus damage and silences the enemy target for 2.5 seconds.

Movement Speed: 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 %
Cooldown: 12 / 11 / 10 / 9 / 8 seconds



[COURAGE]

(Passive): Garen's armor and magic resistance are permanently increased by 0.5 every time he kills an enemy unit.
(Active): Garen places a defensive shield on himself, decreasing all damage taken by 10/15/20/25/30%.
Which with your armor and magic resistance you will have 90% damage reduction for a few seconds!

Max Armor & Magic Resist: 5 / 10 / 15 / 20 / 25
Granting 111 + 25 = 136 Armor @ 60% Damage Reduction
Granting 108 + 25 = 133 Magic Resistance @ 60% Damage Reduction
Cooldown: 30 / 27 / 24 / 21 / 18 seconds
Duration: 3 seconds



[JUDGMENT]

Active): Garen rapidly spins his sword around his body for 3 seconds, removing all existing applied slows, reducing the duration of new slows by 50% and dealing physical damage to nearby enemies every 0.5 seconds. The bonus damage is further increased by Garen's critical strike chance. Damage to minions is reduced by 50%.

Damage: 15 / 35 / 55 / 75 / 95 (+35% of Attack Damage)
Cooldown: 15 / 14 / 13 / 12 / 11 seconds



[DEMACIAN JUSTICE]

(Active): Garen brings down Demacian Justice on his opponent, dealing magic damage, plus 1 additional physical damage per amount of health his opponent has already lost.

Range: 400
Magic Damage: 175 / 350 / 525
Extra Damage: 1 per 3.5 / 3 / 2.5 health missing
Cooldown: 140 / 120 / 100 seconds




Core Items







Item Breakdown



Boots of Swiftness in my opinion is the best choice here, unless you run up against a team of enemies whom have a lot of "Crowd Control" type abilities. Good examples are, Galio, Shen, Amumu, Ramus, Veigar, etc. If you are unfortunate to come up against a team purely of those types of Heros, by all means chose Mercury Treads instead. (Gold Cost: 1000)


The Sunfire Cape is truly one of the best defensive forms of armor a tank can get. It provides great damage reduction, more health, and it's passive is truly amazing. Combined with Garen's ability to speed up, silence, and deal a steady amount of damage, its damage aura really helps with farming, and or chasing enemies down. (Gold Cost: 2510)


The Frozen Mallet is truly a tanks best friend. It gives a small amount of damage, a ton of hit points, and the best part, is, when you attack someone it's guaranteed to slow them for a few seconds with each successful hit you have. It really is a must have! Try Flashing in, Decisive Strike(for silence), and then begin your Judgment after your initial attack hits, they will become slowed causing them to take the full Judgment, thus setting them up perfectly for Demacian Justice! >:] (Gold Cost: 3250)


Youmuu's Ghostblade is absolutely perfect for Garen, for it provides the right amount of Damage Penetration combined with your runes to really cause some harm to enemies when using Judgment. When activated it provides a huge increase in movement speed and attack speed. It really is the perfect carry item. On top of that it also provides cooldown reduction which really comes in handy for Garen. (Gold Cost: 2687)


Banshee's Veil is the perfect Magic Resistance item for Garen, for it provides the right amount of Magic Resistance, plus additional Health, and has the ability to stop incoming nukes, stuns, taunts, just about anything once every 30 seconds. This item is truly amazing for how inexpensive it is. Do not pass up this item! (Gold Cost: 2715)




The Atma's Impaler is by far the best way to finish this build. Due the amount of health you will have accumulated from the Sunfire Cape, Frozen Mallet, and the Banshee's Veil, you will have well over 4k health which will cause your damage to spike heavily from this item. (Gold Cost: 2405)
